Our topic for today is Meditation For Healing. Meditation is an incredibly powerful practice which brings us into ourself and brings us to the truth of who we are. It increases our levels of self-love, helps us relax, and can really improve our sleep.
There is a word in Sanskrit called svastha, and this basically means abiding in the self. We all know that we live in this crazy world, which is constantly trying to pull us out. And there’s a lot of distractions. There’s a lot of noise. We live in a very chaotic time, with a lot of imagery or noisiness.
Unfortunately, the more we’re pulled out, the more stressed we can be, the more difficult it is to sleep. The more difficult it is to connect with ourself. And the more susceptible we are to comparisons, especially on social media and feeling more of that, not-enoughness. That is so debilitating and so stressful in and of itself.
A lot of clinical researchers and psychologists talk about how key it is to love ourselves. We cannot really love ourselves unless we really know who we are. It goes deep below the surface. This is the subject of my latest book which is called Recipes For Your Perfectly Imperfect Life. We are perfect and we are imperfect at the same time.
If we aren’t in touch with the perfect part, then the outer part (how much we weigh, what our skin looks like, how much money we make, so on and so forth), can start to take over. Anxiety builds more and more and we can end up getting physical ailments, anxiety, insomnia. All sorts of stress-related conditions.
The most direct path to self-love is to knowing that expansive, amazing, infinite nature within us. When we know that, we know that we don’t have to add to it. It can’t be taken away. We are whole and complete as we are. And meditation is that stillness.
It’s from taking the senses and all the attention and all the validation, everything going out and pulling it back into ourself, so we can connect and feel still. We can find that piece inside of us and increasingly becoming more resilient to outside circumstances.
We find ourselves seeking attention and validation less and less from the outside because it feels so good to be in there.
Meditation can help bring our mind to the present. There’s also research showing the stress-relieving benefits of meditation which have now been well studied and also lowering cortisol levels.
Cortisol, which you may know is related to belly fat. It’s related to accelerating the breakdown of collagen in our skin, i.e. wrinkles. So none of us want excess cortisol.
Stress is the root of so many health problems. It increases inflammation in our body. Again, this is related to aging from an organ perspective, externally in our skin. It’s related to cognitive decline, so many different things.
There is a study I want to reference here from 2012 published by the National Institutes of Health. I think this is super interesting. It found that meditation can help boost Melatonin. A hormone that is very important, plays a very key role in regulating sleep.
There’s also a research study conducted by the Insomnia Program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. They found that people who practiced meditation showed improvements in their total sleep time and sleep quality.
Of course, we want to get going. We want to know what to do. I want to remind you that meditation is a practice. It’s something we need to do regularly. Even if your mind is really restless at first, you will start to get into it more and more. That was my experience.
I’ve been meditating now over a decade and it does get deeper and easier. I want you to know that I have created a free gift: 7-day meditation series just for you, to help you get started.
To help do that deep healing within your body. To help you relax and get in touch with the deepest part of yourself. Increasing your self-love and to help you sleep better.
You will see the variety within these seven days. It’s very related to your lifestyle and being in touch with yourself.
I hope that you love them. They were created for you with lots of love and thank you so much, Beauty, for tuning in. Be sure to check out our other offerings while you’re over here at mysolluna.com.
