Desserts can be heart-warming and satisfying…and don’t always have to leave you feeling bloated or sluggish!
I wanted to create a dessert recipe with the intention of nourishing both your body and your heart on all levels.
The essence behind my Heart-Opening Chocolate Mousse is more than just great taste! This recipe is crafted to be incredibly heart-healthy, with ingredients that uplift your spirit and help you connect with the love and energy within.
Let’s take a look into what makes each element so special before we get to the recipe!
Avocados
This recipe contains whole avocados as a nourishing fat source. Avocados are rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, which help reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) and support overall cardiovascular function.
These good fats also help nourish the brain, promoting cognitive health and mental clarity. Plus, avocados are a fantastic source of potassium and fiber, both of which are essential for maintaining healthy blood pressure and overall well-being!
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil might raise some eyebrows because it’s a saturated fat, but not all saturated fats are created equal!
Coconut oil contains about 65% medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are easily absorbed and used as energy. These help boost heart health by supporting metabolism and reducing inflammation.
Did you know that coconut oil also supports glowing skin even when ingested? The healthy fats in coconut oil work from the inside out, helping to hydrate your skin and improve its elasticity!
Vanilla Extract
Isn’t there something so grounding about the smell of vanilla? Beyond its aromatic appeal, vanilla extract has some amazing health benefits! Our neighbor in Hawaii grows vanilla beans- so beautiful on the vine- and when you see how it grows naturally, so strongly and vibrantly.
It aids digestion, helps combat inflammation, and can even help ease nausea. Plus, vanilla is packed with antioxidants that protect your brain from oxidative stress. Just remember—always opt for pure vanilla extract instead of the artificial kind to fully reap its benefits!
Almond Butter
Almond butter isn’t just tasty—it’s packed with goodness! Almonds are a fantastic source of vitamin E, which works to protect your heart.
They’re also loaded with magnesium, which helps keep your blood sugar steady and your energy balanced throughout the day.
Plus, almond butter is loaded with healthy monounsaturated fats that nourish both your heart and your skin. It’s such a wonderful alternative to peanut butter, especially since so many popular peanut butter brands are LOADED with sugar.
Not to mention, peanuts can harbor naturally occurring molds called aflatoxins, which are said to be one of the most toxic substances in the American diet. So, when it comes to a nutritious spread, almond butter wins hands down!
Cacao Powder
Cacao powder is one of my absolute favorite ingredients, and it’s no wonder why—it’s been revered as a sacred plant for millennia, used in ceremonies to uplift and awaken the heart.
We are honored to grow it on our land in Hawaii, where I’ve really connected to it more deeply as a sacred plant in the last few years!
Cacao is packed with antioxidants and magnesium, which help fight aging and support a calm, balanced mood. Unlike processed cocoa powders (which are stripped of their nutrients and often mixed with sugar and dairy), raw cacao powder keeps all its amazing health benefits intact!
Heart Open Chocolate Mousse
Ingredients
- 3 Mashed avocados
- ¼ cup Coconut Oil
- 1 Tbs Vanilla extract
- ¼ cup Almond Butter
- ½ cup Maple Syrup
- 1 Tbs Coconut sugar
- 1½ cup Raw Cocoa Powder
- ¼ cup Cold filtered water
- 1 pinch Sea Salt
- Cacao nibs, for topping! (optional)
- Fresh raspberries, for topping!
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients except for the water into a food processor, and process until smooth. If the mixture is too thick and you need a little more liquid you can add the water 1 Tbs. at a time.
- Scoop into containers and top with the cacao nibs and fresh raspberries or cherries.
