This week’s topic: How to Create and Sustain Quality Productivity it in the Midst of a Busy Life.
Aloha, namaste everyone. I’m here in our farm in Hawaii shooting a rare episode right from my heart to yours from this little island in the middle of the ocean. I hope you’re doing well. I hope you’re having a lovely start to your week. I felt really inspired to do a solo cast today on quality productivity, meaning quality and not just checking things out the box or running around with your to do list and many other obligations that you may have in your day -to -day life, which of course is part of the reality for many of our lives, for all of our lives pretty much, but quality productivity in terms of creativity and moving forward in your goals, in your dreams, and what you really want to create, whether that’s with your health or with your professional goals or with your family goals or with special projects, so quality productivity. And this question has been coming up for me and a lot of podcasts, interviews I’m doing and just chats with people about how do we create in the middle of busy life, right? And I could say from personal experience, having two young kids and now with lots going on with school starting up at the same time that I have a book launch in a few weeks.

And I could say from personal experience, having two young kids and now with lots going on with school starting up at the same time that I have a book launch in a few weeks.
and we’re launching a new website with Saluna. There’s just a lot of things. And yet at the same time, I feel that I still have a lot of stillness time and a lot of connection time. And so I wanna share some things that I’ve learned along the way because I’ve definitely had periods where I felt really frazzled and burned out. And there’s been other periods where I feel like I couldn’t get as much done in a really tangible way.
And so there’s things that I’ve really learned along the way that I’m really excited to share with you for whatever you want to create in your life. So there’s a really personal element to this show today where I ask you to consider what it is that you want to create in your life this fall, right now, out of time and space, because sometimes we think of being productive just in terms of the minutia.
Kimberly (02:20.276)
And of course, it’s the small things that add up into these larger things and these larger projects. We have to send a series of emails or reach out, for instance, in order to get certain things done. But how do we create from this deeper place of creative power? How do we put that into quality productivity? So I’m really excited to get into today’s show. Before I do, little reminder that the hidden power of the five hearts is pre -selling now.
over at mysalina .com slash five hearts book. This is a book that will definitely help you in your success and your abundance and empowering your thoughts, balancing your emotions, elevating your health, your gut health, your vitality, many things from the power of the heart brain. So it’s an exciting time. This book has changed my life and I’m really excited to share it with you. So if you pre -order in the next little while, you’ll also get access to our
four week Heart Reset program, which will run in October. So I really encourage you to take advantage of this incredible deal and to just be on this journey together. It’s going to be amazing. You can watch the live Zooms or you can watch the Playbacks. All of it’s available over at mysaluna .com slash five hearts book. All right, let’s get right into our topic today. True productivity, how do we create it and how do we sustain it? So.
If you consider where your energy and your time goes throughout the day, there’s certain things that we may be aware of like, of course I went to the gym for an hour and a half or an hour. I spent about an hour cooking. I was at the office for eight hours or I had to do, you know, two school runs today. There are certain things that we are really aware of, but there’s a lot of things that we may not be aware of how much it adds up.
So for instance, if you ever get those reports on your phone about how much screen time you really spend, sometimes it’s quite surprising, way more than we actually think that we allocate to scrolling on social media or scrolling the internet. So this is just an example of how we may spend a lot more time on screens. Maybe we spend a lot of time answering texts in moments. So it takes a minute for us to get back to our focus or…
Kimberly (04:43.888)
Whatever it is, just watching our favorite shows or there’s many multiple ways that we fritter away our time. So what we need to get really clear about or what I call, what I like to say is choosing your three to four flowers. So if you think about a garden, if you really want to take care of, let’s say a garden that is you’re to be putting your love and your time and attention.
and you’re building these flowers and sustaining them. Three to four flowers is going to take quite a bit of time and attention. And maybe you could have five, maybe stretching you a bit more, and maybe you could have fewer if you want to put more time and attention, let’s say even focused times and periods like you’re pregnant and you have this really big flower of nurturing yourself and resting.
So there’s periods where you may only have one or two flowers, meaning your focus. So this is, I’ll illustrate this by my personal life. My three flowers are very clear to me. My three priorities where I put time and attention in are my spirituality, my practices with God’s spirit universe, including my meditations. Number two, my family, my children, my husband, and
extended family and then number three, my work. So my work fluctuates. There’s times right now where it’s very demanding because I have a book launch. There’s times where I’m in more creative periods where I’m not writing a book or publishing a book, but I’m more focused on Saluna here on our Feel Good podcast. But those are my three flowers and I pour the majority of my time and attention into those flowers. Now,
Like I said, there’s some fluctuation within work, but it’s sort of this overarching dynamic flower for me. There’s times where after this book launch, I’ll be focusing quite a bit on getting our Saloono website off the ground, launching our kit that will include the Glow -In -Greens powder and the water bottle, for instance. But right now, my primary attention is on the book. So what does that mean? It means when you define in your life, what are your three big priorities?
Kimberly (07:08.924)
everything can fall in line behind that. And this is about quality productivity right now. So I don’t mean values, although they’re integrated into your flowers. So we’re not talking about the love, for instance, or harmony, peace, the highest priorities overall, but rather our buckets of time and attention on a practical everyday level. So I know no matter what, I’m going to prioritize my meditations and my time with spirit.
I’m going to prioritize my children. I don’t want to outsource certain things. I play with them. I pick them up from school unless there’s some, you know, some extenuating circumstances and so on. And my work is of my primary, you know, my passion, my mission. So other things fall in line behind that. What are some of the other things? It doesn’t mean that they’re not beautiful flowers, but they’re not the primary flowers.
So number one, another one is my social time with friends. I love my friends and right now it’s primarily though connecting with them over texts. I don’t have a lot of time to spend with downtime or hanging out with friends or on play dates. This will shift again as the book gets launched and then there’s like a different sort of period. But it’s not one of the primary flowers. For you it may be.
very much. Your flowers could be very different than mine. Maybe your flowers are your fitness routine, getting your body in the best shape possible, your friendship time, and your family. Or your friendship family kind of is one bucket, which then would be like a bigger thing because friends and family take up different areas. And then the third, or…
let’s say friends, family, you those three buckets and then a fourth is getting your songwriting career off the ground or your new fashion brand or whatever it is, right? You just have to define what those are, which are individual for each of us. But it’s so important that we get really clear about the three flowers. So for me, what that means is I need to carve out
Kimberly (09:30.098)
time for these three things. So another thing that becomes very minimal in my life is scrolling, spending a lot of time on social media. I post, I answer the comments, I like to connect, I’ll see certain things, but I don’t spend excessive time and I also don’t watch a lot of things. So, meaning shows and movies and so on and so forth. And there’ll be periods where maybe I will more so with my family.
Sometimes my kids like to watch movies on the weekends or a certain time, special events, but it’s not my everyday flow, which is the second part of this topic. Quality productivity means after we define what it is that we really want to create, really deep friendships, elevating our health and vitality, creating that promotion at work or that new business idea or really beautiful family life with.
know, home cooked meals or whatever it is, whatever your three flowers are, after you define them, the second part is to build your schedule around your flowers. This really starts to line things up. So like I said, for me, because I have these three priorities, my schedule has shifted so that now most nights I go to bed at the same time as my kids, which means generally around eight o ‘clock.
sometimes even earlier. And they of course sleep far longer than I do, but I tend to wake up around three is my preferred wake up time. Why? Because in the morning I have a full period to meditate uninterrupted and then I have a full period to focus my creativity on one of my flowers, which is my writing and my work. And it’s in these uninterrupted early morning hours.
where I feel a surge of creativity and I am able to create really quality work. So again, let’s talk about the quality. The quality means that it is coming from your heart, that it is not just checking things off a list, but it’s something that’s really from your authentic true self expression, something that is moving things forward in your life. In order to move our goals and dreams forward, we need to take that inspired action.
Kimberly (11:54.388)
We want to be clear, we can visualize, can say our affirmations around these flowers, but ultimately we need to act, right? We’re here to utilize our free will and to propel these incredible goals and dreams to take shape from our inspired action. So take a look, I would encourage you to write down these flowers and to think about ways in which you could
shift your schedule to put more time and energy into your flowers and then also start to be aware of the things that you say yes to which take away time and energy from your flowers. So just run through your day and you may notice for example that let’s say one of your flowers is your fitness and elevating your health but at the same time you are saying
yes to so many other things that you end up pushing back the time you’re going to go to the gym and suddenly it’s like afternoon and then evening and then you’re too tired to go. It starts to not get the water and the nourishment and the sunlight it deserves. Or let’s say that you are prioritizing or and same thing with you know cooking your healthy meals. You’re just saying yes to so many other things that you start to get depleted.
So I’m making a decision right now because of my three buckets about, I’ve been asked to chair this committee at my children’s school and I have a very open line, very clear line of communication with the school because I love the children’s school and one of my buckets is my family. But at the same time, I just wanted to be clear how demanding my work schedule is and what my schedule’s really like.
for me before I commit to this position. So we want to have very clear expectations. We want to have very clear communication. We want to have very clear awareness. Once we have defined our flowers, the awareness starts with, I’m saying yes to every single time, every single thing someone asks me to do or every single time a friend asks to hang out. It becomes a pattern. It almost becomes like,
Kimberly (14:20.456)
I don’t know, like we just feel like we’re obligated to say yes all the time. But once we start to define our flowers and we start to clarify the lens through which we’re looking at our lives, we may start to notice that we don’t have to say yes to every single thing. We don’t have to text people back right away if our flowers are demanding a period of focus. We’re working on…
our songwriting right now. We are working on our creative project. We’re writing an article. We’re writing a blog. We’re planning our social media posts about something we’re launching, whatever it is. You don’t want to just be dinged around and not have that deep focus, which is what watering your flowers really entails. When I’m with my kids, I’m not answering work emails. I’ll often put my phone in the other room unless there’s a type of emergency.
I work so early to give my work the attention it deserves and then I work through school. But once I pick up my kids, my attention shifts fully back to the children. And so it’s that clarity that defines my whole schedule. And so this is really important because sometimes we don’t get clear. We need to get clear with ourselves and then we communicate that out and then people really start to respect those boundaries. So let’s go back to
the, let’s say one of your flowers is elevating your health, part of that means maybe you need to rethink your sleep hygiene and going to bed earlier. And so maybe that defines how many times you say yes to dinners or going out to bars or parties or hanging out with friends in the evening. Maybe that shifts the conversation into asking your friend to go for a morning hike.
instead on Saturday morning instead of a Friday night dinner, for example, to align with your flowers. Maybe instead of going to a really heavy brunch with your friend, you say, well, why don’t we meet for coffee or a walk so that you can have your glowing green smoothie in the morning instead of feeling weighed down by eating a whole stack of gluten -filled pancakes or whatever it is, right? I’m just giving examples here.
Kimberly (16:43.346)
because I think it’s important to really see how this plays out in your life. So number one, once again, for quality productivity, we’re not just talking about going through the day and making sure you did enough laundry and the dishes are unloaded, which is of course part of the realities of life, but we’re talking about being productive with your creative power and your goals.
So really define the three things that are the most important to you right now and they can shift and change. As I said, after the book launch, my focus will be in other areas of my work, but your three to four flowers. And number two, take a very close look at your schedule. Be aware of all the places where your time and attention goes. And instead of frittering away time mindlessly or without really noticing it, start to put your…
full focus on building your schedule around your actual flowers. And then number three is lifestyle support. And this is where true productivity really is supported by the choices that we make day in and day out around our four cornerstones, which are food, body, emotional wellbeing, and spiritual growth. So let’s run through these.
The foods that you’re eating will have a direct impact on your ability to focus, to be clear, your vitality and your energy. We all know what it’s like to feel foggy or sleepy or that we just can’t get through the morning or the day without loads of caffeine. We need to eat nourishing foods, foods, plants, herbs that are directly imparting their incredible energy, their antioxidants, their vitamins, their minerals.
fiber into our bodies, right? And nourishing us. So if you’ve gotten a little bit off track with your diet, it’s a great time to get back into some daily rhythms, your morning rhythms, rethinking, maybe, you know, bringing your lunch to work or shopping to make sure you have a few key items that you can always throw together really quick lunch in the middle of a busy day instead of skipping lunch or resorting to takeout or
Kimberly (19:06.548)
whatever it is, start to do a little bit more meal planning. For me, what’s really helpful is keeping certain staples around because my schedule is so demanding that in the middle of the day, I often just make a simple wrap or two with avocado, hummus, sprouts, tomatoes. It’s very nourishing. It’s very quick. I can make it and chew and eat it in under generally 10 minutes, right? Or the other day I had
four or five hours of podcasts and I made a double power protein smoothie because there was a period where I wouldn’t be able to eat, but I knew that my body would need that nourishing. And there was chia seeds in this power protein smoothie. There was a double scoop of the glowing greens powder with the amalaki, which is an incredible rejuvenative herb, as well as spirulina and chlorella, all these amazing plants that feel so good in my body.
vegan protein powder. I have blended sprouts into it. So it’s not that we need to follow fancy recipes all the time. It’s not that we need to spend our lives living in the kitchen. Believe me, over time, my kitchen time has actually cut back more and more. I eat really simply. My family eats really simply. I’ll throw some sweet potatoes in the oven, toss a salad together. Sometimes I’ll pan fry some organic
tofu or some beans and quinoa. We make bowls a lot. We just eat really simply, but there’s a lot of nourishment in that food and that’s what really counts. So when it comes to quality productivity, there needs to be a quality running through the consistency of your diet. And there’s a lot more to say about this. Of course, we have many shows, many resources, many recipes around nourishing yourself and more specific items.
And I will say in the new book, The Hidden Power of the Five Hearts, there is an embodiment section in each of the heart stages, these five stages we all go through to awaken the heart. And these embodiment sections include helpful foods for your heart -brain coherence, for your heart -brain to function at its peak, which creates better clarity and cognitive function and performance, right? So a couple of foods that I wanna mention that are really important for me personally right now through this level of…
Kimberly (21:32.884)
next quality productivity that I’m literally in right now, which is the inspiration of this show, is cacao. We actually grow it here on the farm. I think cacao is a really sacred, magical food which boosts your mood and it can give you sustained energy. And so it’s a wonderful replacement to excess coffee drinking. And there’s incredible minerals in cacao as well. It has magnesium.
It has an energy to it that’s very powerful. So I encourage you to source a raw organic brand that you trust to put it into elixirs, even to eat dark chocolate. is a wonderful food to consume. Wonderful plant, shall I say. Number two is fruit. Fruit is really vital to our vitality. It’s full of just incredible vitamins.
and antioxidants. Right now on the island, I’m eating a ton of pineapple. My other favorite fruit of the moment is blueberries, which is really great for your brain power. Another food that’s really important for me right now is avocados. When we have healthy fats, we have a sustained level of energy without the crashes. We need this beauty fat to insulate our nervous systems as well, so we’re not so jumpy and hyper. There’s a groundedness to healthy fats.
And as I mentioned, I’m having chia seeds every day in my Power Protein Smoothie. So those are some of my favorite foods. I encourage you to prioritize food as you start to prioritize these three to four flowers in your life, knowing it will give you that sustained energy to really water your flowers. Number two, our second cornerstone is body. Our bodies need to be nourished.
to sustain us through these incredible daily journeys that we go through. Every day is an adventure and we want to give it our all. So one of the things that shifted for me as I started to look at my flowers was the quality of my sleep, which was being very adversely impacted by even one glass of wine. There were times where, especially during COVID or just certain times where it would feel nice to have a glass of wine and organic wine.
Kimberly (23:55.634)
And I’m not saying that there’s anything inherently wrong with the wine, of course, but I was noticing for me personally, I would wake up in the middle of the night, it was affecting my sleep, and it just wasn’t a priority, it didn’t fit into my flowers. So now it’s very rare for me to drink the wine, but I do other things that make me feel really good, like going really deep into my practice, spending really deep, connecting time with my kids, whatever it is for you.
Now maybe socializing is one of your flowers. And so that fits in with your flower, but it just didn’t fit in with mine, right? There’s no right or wrong here. It really is about this individualization and being able to tailor what is your goals and what you want to be productive with and how to build that schedule for you. But for back to what we’re saying with the cornerstones, how can you support your body in this way? And again, for me,
my body has shifted over to going to bed very early and waking up very early. Sleep becomes a very big priority in my life besides nutrition. I also take care of my body in terms of stretching becomes a really important thing, especially my hips. I walk uphill, that’s my main form of exercise, which I also prioritize for my body. And it’s what feels good to me for weight bearing exercise to go up and down those hills.
Maybe one day I’ll get more consistently into lifting weights for my arms, which I know would also be great, but that doesn’t exactly fit into my priorities right now, to be totally honest. So how can you care for your body and help it be more resilient? Now, this ties into the third cornerstone where body and emotional well -being overlap, which is stress resilience. Productivity can spiral into always on burnout.
If we’re not really coming from this deeply grounded, centered place where it becomes very clear to us what is inspired action and what is overdoing, what is the mind telling us, go, go, go, go faster, it’s not enough. So we wanna be deeply connected and we wanna have tools to balance the emotional upheaval and the things that we can’t control in everyday life, the schedules, the traffic.
Kimberly (26:16.6)
what’s going on in the collective with the election and so on and so forth. We want to start to keep ourselves more grounded within ourselves. So that’s why I’m really excited about offering this book right now to you, Hidden Power of the Five Hearts, which is there’s a large part of this book that’s centered around heart coherence and keeping ourselves from going into that stress response. And I can say in my life, and I’ve been sharing this on other podcasts, that
My energy has gone up about 70 % and that’s because the ups and downs pull us into these reactivities and these stress responses. And so much energy is drained that we don’t even realize. So when we’re able to stay centered in our power, what the hidden power is, is our hearts, energetically, spiritually, and scientifically, we aren’t dinged around as much by life. This keeps our organs healthier, our gut health, immunity.
endocrine system, all these different functions in our body are able to be more efficient. And then also what this means from an emotional well -being standpoint is that we become more resilient. We are able to be so much more grounded in ourselves. And this is so, so key. This is so absolutely important because
the emotional ups and downs, getting pulled into drama and chaos. Guess what? It’s taking away from our flowers. Now we’re in these situations, maybe we’re going down this rabbit hole with something we saw on social media, getting involved, know, cleaning up a mess, going back and forth with a friend over miscommunication over text. All of this is really distracting.
So we want to keep ourselves centered. Now, of course, there’s times we need to speak up. And of course, there’s things we may want to take a deep dive on in the news or whatever it is. But these little ways in which our emotions can start to drain energy and drain our focus, we want to be able to pull it back in, pull it back in, in order to stay in our true productivity. And this is really, really powerful. The next thing that I want to talk about is our fourth.
Kimberly (28:38.164)
cornerstone, which is spiritual growth, path of growth, right? So this means spiritual, as I define it, connecting to this authentic true self expression inside of all of us. It’s not about religion or formalities, but it’s about how do we connect to this incredible energy that is really you, you beyond the identities, you beyond all the labels, because you have an important expression to put out in the world. And this important expression
The more you connect to it, the more it will pour out of your flowers into form. Whether that’s the form of a really beautiful, beautiful family life that you want to create, or the form of true vitality, or the form of this elevated work project or idea or hobby that you really want to put your heart into, committee you want to create, or
creative idea. When we connect inside, is where the true wholeness and wholeness of expression, wholeness of abundances, it will just start to radiate out of you, energizing and creating a deep level of authenticity in your project, which will then create even more focus and a high level of abundance and success. So I’ll say it myself, as I’ve really connected to this incredible heart,
inside of me, which is inside of you and all of us, the universal heart, the individual heart, which connects to all, this true self, this gateway coming through us, through our hearts. And the love has grown so much in myself, for myself, for others, the connection grows. Things get easier. People say yes more. I’ve been able to create this book, which I feel is the most aligned. I’ve been able to deepen my relationships with my husband and my children so much without the little
bickering or the ups and downs, just getting frustrated or feeling burned out or whatever it is. I’ve been able to go deep faster in my meditation so that when I’m in there, it’s this quality instead of taking so long for my mind to settle down, right? Because I’m really connected to this deeper place. And so it’s easier to connect here the more time we spend in here. So what does this look like? This looks like stillness.
Kimberly (31:02.004)
I’m really excited to share more with you about the Heart Align Meditation, which we did a study with, which increased coherence 29 % on average in four weeks. So I’ll have the meditation tracks. You can access them now, actually. They’re up there. Mysaluna .com slash five hearts book paired with coherence building music under eight minutes. If you’re called to a very centering, powerful meditation, please check this out or other meditations that you may be called to. Spending time in nature and stillness, breath work.
for my husband going into his sauna and just being there alone and with himself and his body is a type of connecting into his true self. So there are many ways to connect in, but this is a vital part of our lifestyle. That’s why it’s one of our cornerstones. So I encourage you to spend time, not just with the tangibles, with food and body, but also with your emotional wellbeing.
taking time to soothe yourself, journal, reflect. And again, I have a lot more tools around this topic coming out, which will, I believe, give you quantum leaps in your life as it has mine. And then spiritually connect within yourself to that spiritual growth, that true self placed inside of you. So to sum up, true quality productivity means not just moving things along with the minutia, but really being able to create amazing things.
that only you know in your heart are what you want to create on this planet in our sacred time here. And only you can create things in the way you can because you are a unique expression of spirit and there’s no one else with your exact blueprint of energy. So this is important. Number one, define your three to four flowers, your highest priorities in your life right here, right now. Number two,
Build your schedule around these flowers instead of letting your schedule be dictated by the outside world, by other people and fritter away vital time and energy for you to spend on your flowers. Protect those flowers. Pull out some weeds. Give them water, love, energy, sunshine. Allow them to flourish. Number three, also support yourself with our Four Cornerstone lifestyle, food, body.
Kimberly (33:23.686)
emotional well -being and spiritual growth. When you live this holistic lifestyle, you will be rewarded with more energy, better gut health, just more clarity, more lightness, more joy, more self -connection, more creativity. And it really does add up in such enormous ways. I cannot wait to hear more about your developing expression. Remember that I am always here to support you. Here now.
In the weeks that follow, in the years that follow, in the decades that follow, I am committed to being here. And I am just so grateful for us to be on this incredible unfolding journey together. So please check out the show notes at mysalooner .com. Please check out the Hidden Power of the Five Hearts. I believe you’ll be very happy that you did.
