Welcome back to our Monday solo cast show where I am so excited to talk to you about what I truly believe is one of the most important topics that we can discuss in terms of health, energy, wellbeing, enjoyment of life, fulfillment. Pretty much everything across the board will improve when we start to get into and understand today’s topic.
which is tools to eradicate the root of stress and find peace with change. So I’ll take a deep dive in just a moment. Really, when we’re talking about the root of stress, really what are the mechanics of stress and how this has such a profoundly detrimental effect. As many of us know, there’s a lot of talk about stress these days on our bodily tissues, on our organs, on our digestive system, on our hormonal balance.
and also on our quality of life, how present we can really be, how much we’re enjoying having dinner with our families at the end of the day, or when we’re on a walk, but instead our mind is racing, and our quality of sleep and so on. And when we talk about change, isn’t it true that life is constant?
dynamic change. So we better find peace with it somehow. Otherwise, we’re always going to be in this upheaval of what feels like a chaotic ocean, where we feel ungrounded, and we’re not able to find our center. And so we don’t have clarity. And then we get confused about decisions to make, even everyday decisions such as, you know, should I have the matcha tea? Or is two cups of coffee too much right now? Am I really hungry? Should I say yes to this dinner date?
We start to feel murky in all areas of our life, but not to worry because today I’m going to cover really getting to the root of these very issues and also very practical, tangible tools and techniques that you can take with you today and use them in your life. And these are tools and techniques, by the way, that have profoundly changed my life for the better. And even as tangibly as seeing my blood work,
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (02:19.022)
and how had such low levels of inflammation and cortisol and my hormones, my hormone panel was very balanced, we can see that again, the effects of these practices go to many layers of our being from the physical to the emotional, the mental, the spiritual and so on. We are also celebrating this week, I’m very excited to say the launch of the paperback of The Hidden Power of the Five Hearts, which is a book that was now published
one year ago this week, if you can believe it, it’s been one year. So I invite you to check out the paperback, to gift it to friends, to share it with anyone that you think would benefit. We’re gonna be talking about some of the practices that are in this book today. And if you haven’t read it yet, please check out this paperback edition, which is light, it’s great, you can throw it in your purse. You can, again, take it on the plane, you can take it with you wherever you happen to be.
And it’s really nice, I think, to have an actual physical copy of the book. Although there’s also the audio edition as well, which yours truly did read. Okay. All of that being said, let’s get right into our topic today. Eradicating the root of stress and finding peace with change. So first of all, let’s get to the first part, which is our real state of being.
So when you consider who we really are in our core and what the ancient texts teach us, ancient wisdom is very clear that there’s a natural state inside of us. This is talked about in the Dao, this is talked about in the Bhagavad Gita and many other texts. There is a state of centeredness and calmness and also bliss, not just this sort of state, but a blissful state.
that is our natural state of being. And we could go on to describe this natural state as including the heart qualities, the natural heart qualities, such as when we’re feeling really good, we’re naturally very kind and loving and peaceful and compassionate and caring. So then we ask ourselves, well, how come I’m not really feeling this natural state?
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (04:45.654)
Right? So we think, consider your life day in and day out and take a moment. You could get really honest here with yourself. You think about what’s really happening when you’re getting up in the morning and getting everything together and getting breakfast and making lunch for your kids. Or you’re already checking your work emails while you’re lying there on your pillow. What’s really going on inside of you a lot of the time. All right.
And so this is it, there’s a universality to this. And I know the answer most probably because it’s the truth for most all of us once again. And what’s going on in the inside is lots and lots of thoughts. Thinking all the time, we’re analyzing, we’re thinking the same thought over and over again. Something triggered us, something bothered us. There was a type of reaction. We’re worried about something happening in the future.
replaying the past. There’s constant waves of thoughts. And so because we are engaged in the thoughts and a lot of our energy, say our Shakti, our prana is getting pulled into these thoughts in the mind, we get pulled out of our natural state over and over again. Now suddenly
Even if it’s something really pleasant, we’re at a baseball game and you know, we’re watching our favorite team and we’re sitting there with our friends and we want to be enjoying the game. But we’re up in our head and we’re wondering if that work project is going to work out or if you’re ever going to get into the right law school or you’re ever going to find your life partner, whatever it is, up in the thoughts, up in the thoughts.
So we tend to get very weighed down with the thoughts all the time. And then when everyday interactions start to happen, like there’s unexpected traffic on the road or, hmm, you know, I’m sitting at my favorite coffee shop, but for some reason today the line is twice as long. I don’t like this. We start to feel that tension building inside of us. So there’s the event in front of us.
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (07:09.942)
And then there’s all the thoughts. And that combination creates a tightness, it creates a constriction, it creates a resistance. The thoughts start becoming even more intense, often along the idea of, I don’t like this. Why is this happening? We start to feel sort of gruff inside, we start to carry on.
inner dialogue, sometimes we even project it out. These are the people that are honking their cars when there’s nowhere to go and there’s bumper to bumper traffic on the 405 but they’re still honking their cars. It’s like the inner ego wants to express that frustration. But does it really help? What we’re talking about is the stress response. Something on the outside
is interpreted by these thoughts. I don’t like this. You know, there’s a resistance that builds up and now we’re projecting it out. And also what’s happening internally is a cascade effect of stress hormones. The cortisol goes up. There’s more inflammation in the body. Blood and circulation get pulled out of the GI tract.
there’s a drop in your immune system because all of these bodily functions require energy. But the stress response and your thoughts are taking up so much of that energy that suddenly there’s a very real and detrimental effect to your physical health. You your body is starting to wear down. And now in the after effects of that, you’ll start to feel tired, you’ll start to feel fatigued, you’ll start to feel even more imbalanced.
So that aspect of life with all the things out there coupled with the next part of our title, which is change. So change is happening on an everyday basis, right? If you were to look close enough under some advanced microscope or scientific equipment, you would see there’s shifts and changes in your house plants. There is
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (09:28.526)
seasonal shifts. Right now we’re in a pretty major one, right? From summer to fall. There’s shifts that are constantly happening with family members, with all these souls that are also on their own journey. There’s shifts at work. There’s political, economic shifts. There’s collective. I mean, there’s just so many shifts that are happening. And if we start to get into our thoughts around, really don’t like this, and I like this, and I don’t like this.
which is what the Yelgis and specifically when Bhagavan Krishna was speaking to Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita known as our preferences. So when we start to get really invested in our preferences, what happens is that we’re going to feel this inner turmoil, this up and down, up and down constantly, which is so draining. And this is really the root.
of stress. It’s the thoughts. It’s all the things that we have stored inside of us, the buildup of these thoughts, past experiences, not being able to fully let go of other experiences when we couldn’t handle them or we didn’t have the tools or we’re coming at things from a mental place. So what does this mean and what do we do about it? So the root of stress
is well first of all there’s the thoughts but there’s something behind the thoughts that are driving the thoughts and what is that? That is feelings and emotions which as I talk about in the Hidden Power of the Five Hearts emotions are energy in motion. So these feelings are fueling the thoughts.
This is why we cannot battle thought at the level of thought. It is not sustainable. It takes even more energy to just tell yourself, well, that’s negative. Be positive. Force yourself to try to change your thinking without the impetus, the energy that’s actually behind it, our feelings and emotions. So what do we do about that? Well, we don’t want to suppress them.
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (11:53.432)
We don’t want to try to bypass them or pretend they’re not there or push them down because inevitably they will come up again. And this is where understanding the power of the heart becomes very, very powerful and very applicable to all of our everyday lives. When I started getting into the heart, this heart work, as I like to say, which is both,
encompasses both ancient wisdom and the modern science of heart coherence, I really was surprised to learn that the heart is another brain and that there’s this high level intelligence in the heart. And also very surprised to learn that the heart is sending more messages to the brain in our heads than vice versa, meaning there is this even more expansive power in a sense.
that can work with your head. It can start to work with the thoughts. Why? Because when we allow ourselves to digest feelings and emotions, again, we’re not suppressing, we’re not bypassing, we’re letting them digest the way we would digest a glowing green smoothie or a Dharma scale salad or a bowl with quinoa and beans and broccoli. We allow it in and we allow it out.
are perspective shifts. There isn’t this trapped energy which creates upheaval in your HRV patterns, which fuels the circular and often chaotic thoughts. So we don’t want to work with the level of thought. We want to go behind the thoughts and start to work with the feelings and emotions. So then the question is, well, how do we do that? So there are many
different tools. And one of them that I’m going to talk about are some specific heart tools, as well as some lifestyle tools. And when we live this holistic lifestyle, which we talk about here at Saluna and the Feel Good podcast so much, our four cornerstones, food, body, emotional well-being, and spiritual growth, we are also providing so much more resilience and stability.
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (14:16.834)
to do these tools more effectively in the first place, to feel more centered when you, hopefully when you do meditate or when you’re contemplating more clarity when you’re journaling or again, doing any sort of practice, it gives you a much wider, broader sense of groundedness and support.
In contrast, if you’re eating lots of packaged foods, lots of sugars, you have an irregular routine, that further adds to the incoherence, which will then make change feel even harder because you’re not centered. And then of course, it also makes the stressful experience and feelings even more exacerbated.
So there’s a couple things here I want to talk about. And the first is that once again, in the new paperback, The Hidden Power of the Five Hearts, I go into great depth about the heart aligned meditation. And you can get tracks for this meditation as well at mysaloon.com with music while you’re over there. Please come deeper into the community. I invite you in. Please join our newsletter list because
We have free community events. We doing one this week, actually in Zoom, if you’re listening to this in real time, just free to answer questions, to take us through some of the practices more deeply as a group. We give out recipes every month or so many amazing things. So encourage you to sign up for our website or newsletter rather. And then over there, there’s going to be the show notes for this podcast. And over there are the guided tracks of the meditation. The meditation, the heart aligns eight minutes long.
And we did a research study with HeartMath, which has been studying heart coherence for over 30 years. And this is where I feel for the discerning mind, research and science can be very helpful. Is it the end all be all? In my opinion, no, because science is still created with the limits of the human mind. And in my opinion, there’s a lot more beyond that in higher intelligence.
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (16:36.328)
universe, source, God, whatever you want to say, they can’t necessarily be measured by the scientific equipment that we have at this particular moment. Now we know science continues to evolve. Now we have AI, know, 30 or 30 years ago, 40 years ago, there wasn’t even the internet. So things are rapidly evolving and science can be helpful to give us a broader context and understanding, although it’s not everything.
Right? And the power of the heart far exceeds science. However, science can be helpful. And what we found when we researched this study with a group of individuals, 30 people doing it four to five times a week, we found that their heart increase getting into a coherent state increased on average 29 % in a month, which is huge. Coherence is that clarity. It’s the experience of feeling right here.
In this moment, able to make the best decisions for yourself, including how to eat, how to handle this conversation, what to best do with your time. There is an inner harmony, which translates on a physical health level to digestive optimization, heightened immunity, hormonal balance, and less aging.
because there’s less of that grinding fight or flight cortisol secretion, parasympathetic sympathetic nervous system imbalance. There’s an entrainment, an actual harmonization on the inside that you will feel on all levels and it feels good. So the heart aligned meditation is step one. You do this ideally in the morning, carve out an extra eight minutes.
or in the evening or in the middle of the day, so long as you do it consistently. And the research study was four to five times a week. If you could do it every day, amazing, or even twice a day. However, that is one part of what I’m talking about. That is increasing our baseline of coherence. So as Paramahansa Yogananda talked about, meditation is so important because it’s giving us time.
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (18:56.568)
to experience the expansiveness of oneness and our real true selves, our connection to spirit and God and all of the universe coming through us. And it’s really important the more time we spend in there and meditation, the more we can awaken our hearts, the more our coherence grows, the less we start to feel so tethered to the external world. However,
There’s that time when we’re sitting in meditation and then there’s the rest of our life. Am I right? So we can have the most amazing meditation and we’re trying to hold that calmness and that peace. But perhaps a few hours later, we get a really, triggering text from a friend or someone we’re dating, canceling our event that evening, last minute, or, you know, you notice a big leak.
in the bathroom and now you have to deal with that or you know, whatever it is that’s coming in. And then we start to go into those trigger thoughts and there’s so much energy moving through so many big emotions, so many big feelings. So what do we do with that? So the next part, so first part is we want to establish a higher and higher baseline for coherence and coming into our hearts with the heart aligned meditation. The second part is to be in your heart.
especially when big feelings and emotions come up in also micro moments and larger moments when you start to feel what the yogis would call inner disturbance. When you start to feel, don’t like this. This is not my preference. Or even on the opposite side, if it’s just as big waves of big ups to like, this is my preference. This is great. When you may ask, well, what’s wrong with that? Well, what happens when
it’s not there, then there could be even a lower crash as you try to rebalance the energies. Whereas a steadiness is possible, or something that maybe you wouldn’t choose comes in, and you can breathe and feel and digest the emotions. And also when someone compliments you or something great happens, you can also say, okay, that’s nice, but I’m not so attached to this. And then you stay steady within yourself.
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (21:17.676)
So really powerful practice that I want to point out, which I go into great detail in, in the Hidden Power of the Five Hearts in the Steady Heart Chapter, which is stage three, and it is on page 104, is the Steady in Life practice. So this is something that you can do moment to moment, again, to get to the root of the stress. The stress is not the traffic. It’s not the fact that
training when you really wanted to do a hike and this is screwing up your day it is the thoughts which again are fueled by the energy underneath which are the feelings and the emotions so the heart align steady in life is a practice and again I’ll give you a bit of a summary here although there’s far more in the book to understand about heart coherence and the wisdom and what Swami Sri Yukteswar specifically said about these heart stages who was an amazing yogi he was
Yogananda’s guru, and he talked about the human heart at length. And so what we do when these big feelings and emotions come up are that, again, we don’t suppress them, we don’t try to push them down or pretend that we’re not there, but we work on digesting them through the heart, not through the mental place of the mind, having a thought just so, so that we can feel okay about something. Because guess what? When it shifts and changes again, then we’re not going to feel good.
So we don’t want to work at these disturbances at the level of thought. We want to work with the disturbances at the level of heart. So when something comes in, the traffic comes, someone’s driving really slowly in front of you. Maybe you get stuck behind a garbage truck, which happened to me this morning. know, whatever it is, you go into your heart. You put your focus on your heart. You don’t have to touch your heart, although this can help many focus there at first, especially. You can have both hands on the steering wheel.
Place your attention on your heart and you start to take some nice deep breaths and you become aware that there is a disturbance. It could be a feeling of frustration, overwhelm, ooh, anger, jealousy, whatever it is, you start to just be aware that it’s there and you let it be there. By placing your attention on your heart,
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (23:42.134)
You purposefully and intentionally do not place your attention on your thoughts, which just mean that the energy, the emotions are still running, which will keep the thoughts running. Don’t worry about your thoughts right now. Use your willpower to not battle the thoughts, but to come to the deeper place in your heart where the emotions are running. And as you do that, you become aware that they’re there. You’ll feel things.
You’ll let things pass through. Over time, this will become more and more easy, more easeful process. Like when you start to become more plant-based and maybe in the beginning it was quite difficult to digest higher levels of fiber. But over time, especially with taking your hopefully saluna digestive enzymes, you realize, I can pass this through and this actually feels empowering. Right?
So you stay with your heart, you take deep breaths, and then you let it through.
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (24:49.646)
can handle this. I don’t have to get sucked into the outer expression of stress, which is honking my horn, venting, screaming, all the ways in which we create more incoherence in our bodies. So before we go further, I want to give a real world example.
I love to share about this because I’m on the journey too, and I’ve been studying the hard work and it shows that we’re still evolving, all of us, all the time. So when we got back from Hawaii this summer, it was feeling, again, my brain and my mind and my thoughts, starting to feel the change, the resistance to change, I’ll say, to what had happened over this year.
which in my area meant a major fire. Roads are still being repaired. My children’s campus, which was very close to our house, was burned and gone. And now they’re at a further campus. Thank gosh the school is still there and the resiliency of our amazing community. But still, the further campus coupled with the roads being one way in many sections because they’re repairing them,
meant a much longer school drive. So I wasn’t digesting this at first. I wasn’t getting to the root of stress. I was outwardly resisting and really the first week and a half of school, lots of big thoughts and feelings and why did this have to happen? Every time we passed the street where the old campus was, I would sort of look that way and like, er.
This would be the end of my school drive if the school was still here. Why did it burn? Why couldn’t they have saved the school? There’s other buildings around it that didn’t burn. Why this? Why that? The truth is that life is happening and we are not in control. And all this resisting and trying to battle and complaining and reasoning, it wastes a lot of energy, doesn’t it? And it also, as the title of our show,
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (27:09.912)
talks about, creates stress. So I really went into these very practices that I’m talking about here with you today. I started to become aware how much my thoughts, that’s how much of my thoughts were creating stress and how I had nowhere close to the peace that I wanted, that we all want, I think on some
deep level, we know peace is what we’re seeking. I had no peace around the big changes that had just happened that were completely out of my control, like them or not. So I made a conscious choice and I remember the day it happened. It was the Monday of the third week. There was a little bit of school, then there was Labor Day, then there was a short second week. And then the Monday of the third week, I got in the car and I said, I don’t want to live like this. And I really
Relaxed. I let it go. I went into my heart. I did some slow breaths. I did the heart align steady in life practice. And it was completely transformative. I started saying things to my kids, hey, look at the ocean, because we get to drive along the ocean on the way to school. We’d start to look for dolphins, whales.
started to realize that a few days later, I didn’t even notice the road where the old school campus was. Whereas every day it was sort of this big trigger point of, this is how far I would usually have had driven and this was, why did this happen? It was just gone. So what changed? The root. My emotion, I digested those thoughts, I let them come up and I breathed through them. And then
My thoughts started to change. My whole perspective of this situation changed. It started to become peaceful and dare I say pleasant. I realized, hey, it’s a little bit of a longer drive. I have more time to chat with my kids in the car. On the way home, I structure, I plan for work calls or I do things that are, you know, feel really good to me. It doesn’t feel like wasted time. Again, that was my perspective. Instead of saying, I shouldn’t be on the road this much. I should be home doing more work. Hey.
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (29:34.346)
I’m utilizing the time. actually feels really good. I feel relaxed. I’m outside. I’m looking at the sunlight, whatever it is. So it was the root of the stress that changed. It was not the school drive. It is still as long as ever. Three right now, four times as long as before. used to be 15 minutes there, play a little bit 15 minutes back. Now it’s, you know, it’s variable. Sometimes it’s 30 minutes. Sometimes it’s 45 minutes to get there.
play, come back, and we’re talking at least an hour and a half. It’s way longer, but it doesn’t have to bother me.
It doesn’t have to be a stressor. And I think that’s this big waking up of what this heart work can really do to change our lives and our health is realizing that whilst we do not control most all of what happens in creation in the outer world, we can create that steadiness, that steady heart, which starts to have a profound influence on the quality of our life. How empowering is that? We don’t have to
fight and change everything. We don’t have to battle. Things don’t have to be just so. It’s this inner terrain, the inner state. We start to calm the thoughts. We start to do our techniques, the heart align steady in life, the heart align meditation. We start to align our thoughts. Our nervous system starts to calm down. And then we can have more fun and enjoyment no matter what’s going on. We can relax. We can be truly present.
Now, when you combine this with certain lifestyle measures, now you’re really starting to support this resiliency in your inner state, in your inner terrain. So part of your inner terrain is working with the heart brain. And another part of the inner terrain is your gut, your gut health, your gut brain, which I’ve been talking about for many years. Now, why is this important? Because this also has a profound effect on your moods, on your inner resiliency.
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (31:41.014)
on your brain neurotransmitters. I mean, there’s so many different things that are happening in the gut all the time. There’s profound intelligence. So one of the most important things that we teach and what we practice, I say we, including myself as a community, is we take our SBO probiotics daily. Now there’s amazing, again, the science keeps improving and the research keeps improving. And I’ll link to this in the show notes for anyone that is interested.
The Mental Health Research Journal just came out with a study this year in 2025 that showed that a daily probiotic had a significant reduction in negative mood states like stress and anxiety beginning after only two weeks. The researchers noted that, quote, probiotics seem to ease the heaviness of negative feelings rather than simply boosting positive mood, highlighting their role in emotional balance.
This supports the growing evidence that gut health directly influences resilience and overall well-being. There you have it. Our three brains can work together. The heart brain, the gut brain, and the brain in your mind. There is this inner terrain that without changing the outside world, let’s say you still have the same job that you don’t love, that you’d love to change one day, you still have incredible traffic in your daily commute, you have
financial stress, weather stress, whatever it is, when you work on your inner terrain, you can work on the roots of stress and find much more expansion, easefulness, joyfulness, peace in your day, and change as things are constantly changing. Hey, it’s not summer anymore. It’s fall. It’s a little bit more busy, isn’t it? There’s a lot more. I know for me, it’s like all these school permission forms and things I had to…
You know, rent my older son a violin. had to figure this out, whatever. Hey, it’s fun. You know, we’re just light here. Let’s just do our best. Let’s meet each moment as it comes. It doesn’t have to feel so heavy or stressful. Now, another research study published in PubMed tested. Now, this all feel a little technical, but again, the research links are in the show notes if you’re interested. Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856 in patients with
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (34:06.338)
both IBS and depression, and it found there were significant improvements in digestive symptoms and mood compared to the placebo in digestive symptoms and mood. So guess what? Our Saluna Feelgood SBO probiotics contain this exact clinically studied strain showing there are proven benefits for gut and emotional wellbeing, just part of this route.
when you take our SBO probiotics. So you start to see how everything works together. We want to work on this deep connection with ourselves through our hearts. So the heart is not the true self, right? The true self is even behind that witnessing, watching these emotional fluctuations, watching the thoughts. But when we get behind the thoughts and we’re working with the heart and the emotions and feelings in the heart,
We’re going deeper, we’re getting closer. And then as that starts to still and digest, then we naturally start to feel more of these states that are being suppressed with distraction and thoughts, the bliss, the love, the peace. And then we want to make sure that we are living this lifestyle, which also is in our control. We don’t control the traffic or the weather or the economy, but we control our lifestyle choices.
And foundational is taking your SBO probiotics every day. Gut health is something that we need to do on a regular basis. You can just take it a few times a week or we take it for a couple of months. Why? Because every day there are microplastics and toxins and sugar and air pollution. So when we want to feel our best and look our best and be in our highest health, these are…
The probiotics are one of the things that we need to do long-term. There aren’t a lot of supplements you need, by the way. I’m not a believer in taking a whole cupboard full of supplements or doing a million different complicated practices or having a 12-step skincare routine. But the ones I share with you that I’m so passionate about that have both the scientific research and the natural wisdom and the ancient wisdom.
Solluna By Kimberly Snyder (36:26.422)
are the ones I speak about here. So the probiotics, example, soil-based organisms emulate the natural soil our ancestors ingested that had the hardy strains of probiotics that get through the stomach acid.
