This week’s topic is: Winter Solstice Rebirth: How to unlock positive expansion in The New Year
We’re going to be talking about rebirthing and planting seeds for the new year. And in terms of the collective and the universe and our planet, and all the planets and our solar system, in many ways, this is the actual new year. This is where there is a cosmological event happening.
Winter solstice has to do with planetary alignment. It is the darkest day of the year for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. And it’s symbolic of death and rebirth. It’s this rebirthing of the light starting to grow again into strength. We’ve been waning into this light. There’s been this inward time, and I’m really excited to talk about five different aspects of how we lean into rebirth and take advantage of the collective energy that’s happening right now.

00:00 Namaste loves, and welcome back to our Monday Solocast podcast. We have a very special show today in honor of winter solstice, which is this week. And so today we’re gonna be talking about rebirthing into the new year, planting seeds for the new year. And in terms of the collective and the universe and our planet, and all the planets and our solar system, in many ways, this is the actual new year. This is where there is a cosmological event happening. Winter solstice, which is, uh, you know, has to do with planetary alignment. It is the darkest day of the year for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. And it re remarks, it is symbolic of death and rebirth. So it’s this rebirthing of the light starting to grow again into, into, um, strengthen. We’ve been waning into this light. There’s been this inward time, and so I’m really excited to talk about this this week.
01:09 Our society puts so much emphasis on New Year’s, which is wonderful and exciting, and there’s a lot we can create around that as well. But that is a manmade holiday. It’s, you know, based on our calendar, we decided to make January 1st New Year’s. And that, you know, that kind of falls in different cycles and different times of, of, um, the planets, you know, based on the year. Whereas winter solstice is tied to the sun and to the moon and everything that’s going on. So it’s a very sacred time. It’s been celebrated in cultures all around the world for millennia. And so I wanted to lean into that today and think about this really huge concept in our life of death and rebirth, in this symbolic sense, in the sense of what will we let die in our lives? What no longer serves us, what worked for us before, but doesn’t work now?
02:07 What can we actually perceive has come from the ego, has come from a false sense of self? What is no longer needed and what is no longer necessary? And then we birth into more light, more truth, more enlightenment, more freedom, more joy, more peace. And so it’s a very sacred process. And so today I wanna talk about five different aspects of this, of how do we lean into rebirth? How do we take advantage of the collective energy that’s happening right now, and allow this light to grow from within us, and allow this light to pour forth in our lives so that in 2023, we feel even more aligned than the year before we feel even more clear. And the light brings clarity. We bring the light to the darkness, to things that have felt murky and confusing and shaky. And, and, you know, these are all part of the human experience. But then we start to expand again in the light. And this takes place across our whole lives and our lifestyles. It affects everything from our relationships, relationship to self, to others, to food, so on and so forth. So I’m really excited to get into our show today and our five different aspects of this rebirth process.

And then finally, just wanna quick mention that as we come into this darker period, and there’s a little bit more space around the break, it’s a great time to cozy up with our new book. You Are More More Than You Think You Are – Practical Enlightenment For Everyday Life. You’ve heard me talk about it here before, maybe you haven’t picked up a copy yet, but it’s a great time to go through those chapters. The practices, the exercises, the introspection. This creates clarity. And clarity allows us to bring forth our will and, and intuition and inspired action so that we see that we really are the stewards of our life. We really do co-create a reality with spirit. And so that’s what this book is about, giving you the tools and practices to help you really shape your life and reshape it. We can save for 2023.
Solocast: Winter Solstice Rebirth: How to unlock positive expansion in The New Year
Okay, let’s get right into our show today, rebirthing into the new year. And so as we start to come towards this darkest day, so to speak, it allows us to go within in a little bit, a little bit more facilitation and going in, because the darkness is all around and the darkness isn’t scary. The darkness is allowing us to, to see, to, to feel, to bring light to, to what has felt shadowy or confusing. It’s like how the seats grow towards the light, even though they’re underneath the ground and they cannot yet see the sun. But there’s this instinctual moving towards the light. So the first thing that I wanna talk about today is this, um, vision, A bigger vision that we have for ourselves and for the new year head and for how we, like, we want our lives to be.
06:24 And what this means in a, in a bigger expanded vision. And this is where the light starts to come in and expand, is it’s part of it is this piece that passeth all understanding. We don’t get, we we start to allow this part of us to die, where we get so caught up in, in details and the weeds and, and hurts and taking things really personally. And the expanded vision is we start to see that life, actually, a lot of it is non-personal. People are all on their own journeys. We’re all doing our best. Sometimes when make people make comments or it feels a little bit sharp or short, it’s because they’re on their own journeys and they have their own perceptions and their own things they’re working through. So the higher vision that comes in is we start to feel more connected to this bigger vision that we have for our lives.
07:17 And so I invite you to think about what is the bigger vision for your life? How would you like to feel day in and day out? You know, expansive, inspired, joyful, connected. These are some of my words. And so when we create that vision, that higher vision of what we want our lives to look like, it puts into perspective where we may have been unknowingly wasting our time and our energy over the past year and previously. So it’s important to reflect, but not get bogged down in the past. And not to project too much in the future, but the past can teach us some lessons here as we, you know, start to create. It’s this eagles eye vision. It’s when we hike to a really high place. If you’ve ever been to, you know, the top of a mountain, I’ve been very fortunate and grateful to have hiked several mountains in my life, including Mount Kilimanjaro and the Huen Mountain in China.
08:17 And the, and our Perna trek in Nepal. I’ve not climbed Mount Everest, but I’ve been to, I’ve seen it from a small plane, and I’ve been in the Himalayas and I’ve been to the, um, the foothills of K2 in Pakistan. Anyways, <laugh>, we know when we do climb high or we see a picture up high, or even if you’ve been to the top of the Empire State Building or the Sears Tower in Chicago, there is an expanded vision you see out and everything that seems so detailed and, and, and linear becomes almost impossible to see. It puts it in perspective, right? So it is in our lives. Sometimes we get caught up in this really small stuff and it takes us off track and we can start to get caught up in drama or smallness.
#1. Stepping into this rebirth is: Creating a higher vision
09:18 So the first thing as we step into this rebirth is creating a higher vision, a bigger vision. So I invite you to journal about this. What is the bigger vision for your life? Again, how do you wanna feel? How do you want your, your overall life to flow? And so this is beyond exact circumstances. Like, I wanna make $10,000 more in my job, or I wanna have, you know, x number of trips, that’s the details, that’s great too. But in a higher vision, what is our, where’s the trajectory? Where are we going? Are we going towards more peace? Are we going towards more deep connection, more service with self and others? Whatever it is. So I invite you to really reflect on that. So then along with that is number two, as we start to, to lean into what it is that we wanna create with our higher vision.
#2. Stepping into this rebirth is: Align our own will with higher will, divine will and universal will
Number two is this, I would say this humility starting to sink in where we ask ourselves to align our own will with higher will, with the divine will, with universal will. And we start to take a clearer look of where has my ego created any sort of structure or goals or pushiness or drive to have to get something done, or it’s this never ending drive to always lose more weight no matter what. I’m never feeling happy with myself. And we start to see where is the ego playing a part in this? And where is my true self, the voice of will, the voice of the divine, the voice of my intuition coming through. And this idea now with solstice, the death, let it die. Let these old ideas, this old pushiness start to die in your life. It doesn’t serve you anymore. So with this deepening of the darkness, we can look peer in and see, hey, what’s gonna rise up in my life in this new year, this higher vision? And also, where am I aligned with the collective?
11:28 Where is my vision really aligned, aligned my goals, really aligned with win-win, good for everybody? And where are the egoic parts that really can start to drop away and fall away? So for me, and I can share, um, you know, going through this, I’ve gone through all of these in the last little while, which is why they feel really alive to me and why I love to share them with you. These are things I’ve been, um, processing myself, things I’ve been journaling about a lot within myself. And so I can sort of pick through. There is this very natural, intuitive part of me that wants to share and serve. And I do believe this is my life purpose. And this has always been the way I’ve created. This is where our community was formed back in the day with a free blog. And so there’s this very pure innocent part of me that really does wanna connect with you and our community and just share in this beautiful oneness, <laugh>.
12:28 But then there’s this egoic part of me that I’ve perceived over the years. And you know, you, you notice, okay, there, that’s the, the mind, that’s the small self that keeps me pushing in those periods where I’m pushing so much, we have to launch this and this has to happen. And that is not exactly aligned. There’s the service part, but then there’s this where we go overboard in all the ways that we can, whether it’s trying to fit so much in, or pressuring our, pressuring ourselves to get to that next place, whether it’s with promotion or title or salary or whatever it is. So we just wanna see, okay, this over ness, this pushiness, this is part of what can die in this solstice in this period. This doesn’t really help me. This doesn’t get me to where I wanna go. This actually just creates stress and inflammation.
13:20 It is part of what keeps weight on, right? Because there’s this just energy of, um, not enoughness. And the body can rebel. The body is so highly intelligent, the body can actually say, oh, there’s a lot of stress happening here. Let me actually do the opposite. Let me hold energy in, let me keep things in. And, um, you know, it creates this endocrine and hormonal imbalance. And then we never really feel in that full openness, this full, uh, aliveness of life. So we just wanna take a look, where am I aligned and truly aligned with universal will? And where is my ego playing a part here? So we wanna create that light of awareness before we keep moving forward. And great humility is needed here to see, oh yes, and it’s okay, we all have these different parts of us, but where we can start to see where there is this, you know, egoic pushing happening or sense of lack that’s making us just pushing so, so hard in, in a, in that overboard way.
#3. Stepping into this rebirth is: Letting things fall away and die, letting them drop
14:28 So, um, the third thing that I wanna talk about, very important thing is letting things fall away and die <laugh>, letting them just drop. It’s like in the tree, letting certain branches fall. And when we do that, what happens is there’s more energy for the new sprouts and the new buds and the flowers and the leaves to come forth that are really healthy and that are meant to strengthen and continue to strengthen in the new year. So, um, in terms of, of life and, and practicality, that’s, you know, one of the things that, you know, decisions that we have to make here at Solluna. Um, you know, there’s, there’s some shifts happening and I’m passionate about everything that we’ve, we’ve put out and put forth. But, you know, with my time, just seeing forward, okay, our podcast here is really growing and thriving. It’s doing really great.
15:24 And Solluna, we’re wanting to launch all these new programs, including our pregnancy course and this waterfall cleanse that I’ve just been doing with clients and I wanna offer publicly and just many other products and things in the works and excitingness. So what it that has meant though, is this monthly Solluna Circle, which I’ve loved so much, is going to fall away in the form that it has been. And that’s been a really hard decision for me because I love our circle community so much, and I love being on Zoom with them so much. And some of you listening today in our chat rooms. And so now there’s gonna be a bit more space between circles. We’re gonna open it up and we’re gonna have the circles maybe quarterly or whatever it is. But I had to really sit with this because back to this idea of things will fall away, and that’s part of this death rebirth cycle that is challenging for us humans because we tend to get attached and we tend to like how things are, and it’s comfortable and we get used to things.
16:29 But sometimes it is important to let things go. Things sometimes go too long because we are attached. And I can say as well for myself in personal relationships, sometimes I’ve stayed in relationships past the point of health, past the point where it had run its course because of that clingingness and not wanting things to change or be different. But the truth is, this is absolutely fundamental and critical in expanding light. We recycle, we let go, we let things die, and then again, recycle through. So just in the garden, the cuttings, the old leaves, the, um, you know, the parts of the plant that fall off and then regenerate into healthy soil, and then the energy sprouts forth into a nude channel. So I invite you to look at your life and see where, which branches can fall now. And it’s okay. It could be, you know, phasing out of a friendship or spending so much time in a particular group or club.
17:44 Maybe you just don’t feel the same passion for it. Or maybe you need to, to back away from, you know, being that PTA president or all the school activities, maybe just a bit too much for your schedule. Or it could be, you know, a different aspect of your, of your business or just your free time <laugh>, you know, like there, letting it fall where you always have to come up with new recipes for your yourself or your family. Maybe you just start to simplify things. There’s a million different ways that the branches can fall. But remember this is a two part process here. There’s the death and the rebirth. So if we do want to really shine the light on what it is that we really wanna grow in the new year, there’s only so much of our time and resources that we can pour into projects and things.
18:45 And so we want to make sure that we are creating, be creating that space. So on a podcast a long time ago, we talked about our garden and the weeds and the flowers. One of the things we talked about is that, you know, maybe there’s three or four flowers and that’s what you really need to water. And then the rest, it starts to get overgrown or weeds, which can sound like a harsh term, but really there’s just so much else that can come at us. So we want to really get clear about what it is that we are committing to watering. So for me, it’s my spiritual life, which is primary, and that, you know, involves my meditations and my journaling and my practices with spirit, connecting with true self and spirit. There’s my family. And then there’s all the, my work, you know, the service and the work that I put out into the world.
19:42 And then those are my three main flowers. And then the fourth flower is friends and community. That is, that is there, but it is a second tier, and I’m aware of that. And, you know, those first three are are very precious and my friends are very precious too, but they won’t get it the same amount of time and attention. And then beyond that, it’s where, you know, we get really clear about saying no, and I can’t give my time to, you know, I just don’t have as much time for a acquaintances. And, you know, people I don’t know as well. And there’s group events and things where I can share, but, um, you know, the, the, the family and, and the service and the work is, is in spirit. Like I, you just have to get clear. And that’s how I’ve gotten really clear in my life.
20:33 So I encourage you to see what can fall away and what you are ready to let go of. And maybe you don’t feel fully ready, but as you start to get really clear about it and you can journal about it, hopefully some light will come to this. And I encourage you not to feel bad or guilty because sometimes friendships do shift or your time will shift, and you just have to get really clear on yourself before you share those boundaries with other people. Because that strength, that real resilience, uh, in you, that clarity will just help it be clear for other people. And then they don’t have to take it personally. You know, if things shift or you, you move out of a, a club or a commitment, it’s just that here’s my bandwidth and here’s my vision for what’s happening. And you know, this is what’s going on.
#4. Stepping into this rebirth is: Soften our rigid positions
21:18 And we just share with people, people do understand. Number four, soften our rigid positions. So part of this death and this rebirth is seeing where we may have closed down to possibilities because we get so rigid. So what we can let die is the rigidity, and then we rebirth into more openness. And openness is this beautiful spiritual quality of love. Love is free. Love doesn’t possess, love allows, love accepts. So as we move into this softening, it means that maybe we have a way of being a way of eating. We may be fully plant-based, and we believe in plants and we believe in fiber, and we believe in compassion. We believe in nonviolence. But someone maybe, maybe it’s our partner or friend, may have a very different position on this. And they really are, you know, a believer in paleo or whatever they believe. And it’s okay for two realities and multiple realities to coexist.
22:28 And part of this expanding into the light and the rebirth is, is love and acceptance. So if you’ve, you start to evaluate your own life, you start to go inward and you can see where have I been Rigid. Rigidity never feels good. We have to allow space for ourselves and others. And this is the light, like I said, love is expansive, light and love are expansive and free rigidity will break down your body. Body rigidity is decay. And we’re really so, um, you know, closed and things have to be a certain way. And we can only eat in certain restaurants that have our specific specifications and we can only do certain things. It creates a lot of inflammation and stress and holding. And you know, we may start to feel that as aches and pains in our joints and our shoulders and our just bodies in general.
23:24 We can notice there’s a holding pattern and it can affect your breath, which then affects oxygen and circulation. There’s a holding a lot of us do unconsciously in our belly. And this actually keeps our digestion and detoxification from flowing fully. So we really wanna allow for this breath and this softening to come in, let the rigidity die, let that be an old way of being that no longer serves us anymore. And we see that we can still make our choices and live as we feel right to live. We can still raise our kids as it feels good to us. But the light expanding is this softening into love and acceptance non-judgmentalness. And you know, this may look a million different ways, but part of it, I know for me the softening down means withholding, commenting, withholding our opinions. We don’t even have to have all these different opinions, just this softening has done.
24:29 So just opened up my life so much, so much more kindness and self-compassion comes forth and connection and flow. So I invite you to see where you can soften a bit into this rebirth and let the seeds that you plant come from this soft, gentle place of love. And you know, as we spoke about in our other point, alignment, humility, really aligning our will and our intentions with higher will and intentions and what’s great for everybody. And how can we bring that real true acceptance forward in this year, which is this acknowledgement that we see with our higher perception, with our higher vision, that everybody really is equal. And we are playing out our journeys in different ways, but none of us, not a single one of us is better than anyone else. So we soften our positionality, we soften the rigidity, we soften our words, we soften our interactions.
25:38 We even soften the expression on our face into a little bit more of a soft smile. Versus sometimes we’re so in our heads we have that, you know, people use that term, that bitchy, resting face, <laugh>, we just soften down. And this allows, this is such a powerful place to come into life with all its ups and downs is is coming at it from a more soft place, which is resilience and real strength.
#5. Stepping into this rebirth is: Let die
And then the final point that I wanted to bring forward is as we feel into the light and we bring the light, we can start to see what we have suppressed, whether it’s fear and grief, and we let the suppression start to die. So it’s not that these feelings are gonna die because you know, right away because there’s a lot of energy that we all hold and we’ve all pushed down and suppressed over many years.
26:34 So what we wanna start to do is just to allow ourselves to be in our messy humanness, and then we can bring the light to the big feelings and let it come up and out. And I’ve been sharing with you, if you’re a regular listener, over the past few weeks, I’ve been allowing a lot of grief to come up and out through me that I never knew there was a lot of grief in me, grief about my mom’s passing, but grief about many things. Just things not being the way that, you know, I thought that grief from my childhood, grief, that it wasn’t a certain way or grief that things were a certain way. Grief and disappointment, grief and feeling abandonment. There were big feelings that were really moving through me over the past few weeks. And so what I’ve let die is just this rigid, there’s the rigidity again, holding things down.
27:26 This fake positivity of like, everything’s okay in those moments. It’s no, you soften into, so they all fit together. I keep using these words interchangeably, but there is this softening into the light. There is this softening into wholeness, which means we let the fear start to come forward and we bring the light to it. And then we realize eventually that we are strong enough to handle anything. And we let the grief come up. We let the tears come if they need to, and we let it wash over us because our anchor is the light. And so this expanding light, this rebirth, part of this rebirth is really understanding this resilience and the part of us that is always permanent and stable and does not go away when things feel really hard. That that does not abandon us, even when we feel really lost and confused. This is the true self, this is spirit inside of you and who will always be there. So part of this rebirth is letting die all these old layers, the attachments, the ego, the pushing, the fear, the um, you know, this false sense of self that wants to be seen in a certain way. And so suppresses a lot, right? Let it die <laugh>. Let it just go because it really doesn’t serve any anymore. And you know, as we start to put the focus on this, this, um, this beautiful, um, this really beautiful
29:04 Season of solstice and expanding light, what happens is we can start to really, um, take space. I encourage you, like this is a really big, uh, topic, and this is a really big time in the, you know, in the year where there’s darkness and there’s hopefully space, there’s a break in your, in your child’s schools and in work where you can just take some space to reflect on these and plant seeds to have the best year ever for 2023. And not necessarily based on outside circumstances. So not the best year in how some may evaluate success and how much money you made, or how many, you know, followers you gained or what whatever we think in terms of numbers or whatever. But in terms of self-connection and self-growth. So that’s the real success is where we can build up so much inner resilience that we really do know we can handle whatever life brings us.
30:06 We can bring that light and that love and that kindness and that acceptance to anything that arises and to all who cross our paths. So to review, again, these five points that I’d love for you to reflect on is, number one is, um, higher perception, higher vision, going past this, taking everything so personally and seeing beyond the minutiae of every day. How do I wanna feel in my life? How do I wanna connect? What is my intention? And then number two, with humility, really going deeper into that vision and seeing is this aligned with universal will, is this aligned with higher will or is there still some egoic parts here I need to sort through and let go of and let die. And then number three, we let things fall away. We let the branches fall away. We gotta let go. We can’t jam everything in.
31:05 So what is stagnant? What do we no longer wanna water in our lives? What is, you know, oh, so, so, but not incredible. And we wanna really nurture and feed the things that are super incredible. Number four, how can we soften more? Our rigid positionalities and our perspectives and softness is grace. Softness is compassion. So we wanna let die the rigidity and open to more light. And finally, number five, we wanna let die as well. The suppression. What have we sort of held in our bodies? What are, what are we holding that suppression, um, suffocates light and energy and pr and chi and through your body, through your acupuncture points, through the meridians, through the naughties, these points in our veda. So we just wanna, ah, start to breathe through, start to feel our feelings, let them go through, feel into our wholeness, and then just let the, bring the light to it.
32:10 Let the light expand and re rebirth into the new year. So I hope that this inspired you to take some stock and I’m so excited for this week, for Winter Solstice. I encourage you to please, please create some sacred space for yourself. And whether it’s today or on the day of winter solstice, this whole week is really sacred. Take some time with your warm elixir. We’ve got lots of recipes over on the website with your journal. Please meditate. Again, we also have those free guided meditations on our website, my luna.com to take you through and to help you get into this deeper space. And as you look through the library of practical enlightenment, meditations, please choose the one that calls out to you somewhere in your intuition, there is a connection. So don’t be too heady, right? Just go with the heart, go with your intuition and see what rises up.
33:07 So we will be back here Thursday for our next q and a show, sending you so much love and so much light as we move forward into this really sacred space. And just remember that you, you are a unique being with a unique purpose here. And so the more clear you become, the more light that you can bring into the planet in all the infinite ways that you do. Just by your presence in your unique energy being part of this fabric of humanity and the collective. And it really is important that we create that clarity within ourselves.
