With so much excitement leading up to our official book launch I am thrilled to share the Beauty Detox Transformation Story of Ceil Tulloch, who is a shining example of what’s possible with this philosophy.
There is something for everyone in Ceil’s amazing journey, and I’m eager to share it and hear about how it inspires you.
So without further ado, let’s meet Ceil and hear about her experience!
Ceil, how did you first find out about Beauty Detox? How long have you been following the Beauty Detox philosophy? Was it easy to incorporate it into your lifestyle?
I have been following the Beauty Detox philosophy for approximately two years. While I was teaching ESL in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the fall of 2012, the weather suddenly became cold and I wanted to prepare some soup. While I am fond of eating, I am not an avid cook. So, I searched the internet for easy to make soup recipes and voila, Kimberly’s Delish Squash Bisque recipe popped up! Since I love squash and the cooking process for Kimberly’s recipe was not labor intensive, I decided to give it a try. The soup was so hearty that my interest in Kimberly and her philosophy was piqued. After reading her blog and sampling some more of her awesome recipes, I reached the conclusion that it could not hurt to make some adjustments to my lifestyle.
It was easy for me to embrace several tenets of Kimberly’s philosophy into my lifestyle because I am by nature health-conscious and am open to exploring healthy alternatives. The challenging part is finding the kale and spinach that is necessary for some of Kimberly’s recipes. I have been residing in Oman for over 14 months and have only seen curly kale twice in the supermarket. Since it is extremely hot here, most times when spinach is available at the market, it is usually wilted.
What is your daily regimen? Give us an example of a typical meal plan and exercise routines.
5:00am – I wake up and drink a cup of hot water with the juice of a whole lemon. If I can not obtain lemons, I will have a cup of peppermint tea.
5:15am – 05:50am – It is time to do some yoga exercises!
6:00am – I get ready for work.
6:30am – I will have some fresh fruit, or dried apricots, pumpkin seeds and mixed nuts.
7:00am – I prepare a large fruit smoothie with either almond or walnut milk, dates, bananas and dragon fruit, or make a green juice.
7:10am – I ride the bus to work. On the bus, I usually do some reading. Currently, I am reading Be As You Are: The Teachings of Sri Ramana Maharshi, by David Godman.
At lunch time, I dine in the faculty cafeteria. So, lunch is usually a rotation of eggplant casserole, or some lean cuts of meat with veggies and rice.
For dinner, I will prepare a vegetable juice. Broccoli, sweet potato, beetroot, carrots, sweet peppers, and cucumbers are some of my favorites. If I am not in the mood for a juice, I will eat tabbouleh.
On weekends, I enjoy a leisurely breakfast of Dorset muesli cereal, or make a chia pudding with mango, or banana, and Goji berries. At lunchtime, I will drink a fruit smoothie, or make a juice with seasonal fruits such as papaya with a green apple and Medjool dates. Now that it’s pomegranate season, I occasionally drink a glass of this delicious juice.
Dinner is usually food from the cafeteria because I refuse to cook in this heat.
How do you feel after adopting the Beauty Detox lifestyle? What changes have you experienced?
I feel very fortunate to have stumbled across Kimberly’s blog and books. I have learned a lot from her and benefited greatly from her knowledge and expertise. It was an eye-opener to read in The Beauty Detox Foods, about the nutritional content and health benefits of the various produce. Due to Kimberly’s revelations, I am:
1) weaning myself off cheese and yogurt,
2) eating a wide variety of seasonal whole foods and have eliminated the use of most packaged foods,
3) making my own nut milk,
4) sprinkling some Spirulina powder on my food, and
5) in general, I find I am more mindful of the foods I ingest.
In terms of beauty products, I have stopped using those that contain harsh chemicals, moisturize my body with either olive or coconut oil, and switched to using no fluoride herbal toothpaste. Additionally, I also dry body brush before taking a shower.
Regarding physical changes, I have noticed that I have more energy and feel light on my feet. A year ago, I had a little cellulite on my butt, but now it is gone. Additionally, the grey hairs at my temple are disappearing, so life is good!
On a spiritual level, Kimberly has helped me to appreciate the present. I was one of those people who were always living in the future. All actions were stepping stones to distant goals. Now, I am learning to relax and enjoy the journey itself and have a more balanced lifestyle.
How has this impacted your outlook on life?
Since I am pushing 43, all these positive changes have made me less nervous about going through a midlife crisis. I am now at peace with myself and am actually very excited about what the universe has in store for me.
What is your favorite recipe and why?
Gosh, there are so many! The following by Kimberly really tickle my palate:
Delish Squash Bisque, Rainbow Stuffed Peppers and Alkaline Grain Veggie Burgers. I love them all because they only require a few ingredients, are simple to make and are quite tasty. (Thank you Kimberly, you ROCK!!)
What words of encouragement do you have for others in the Beauty Detox Community?
Take your time with the transition. Do not make drastic changes to your diet or deprive yourself. Continue to enjoy your meals. Set a few easily achievable goals and build on them. If you happen to fall off course, do not beat yourself up; be patient with yourself, dust yourself off and get back on track.
Thank You for Sharing Ceil!
What an amazing story! Thank You for taking the time to share with me and the community! You are a beautiful being and I a honored you are part of our community. Much love to you, as we share the path together to inspire all us in the community to live our best lives.
Now, if anyone has a Beauty Detox story they’d like to share, please do send to katelyn @ mysolluna.com and put “Transformation Story” in the subject line.
These stories really are profoundly helpful to everyone in the community — and the more we can share, the better!
Also, if you enjoyed learning about Ceil’s journey, I think you’ll be happy to know that there are some truly amazing transformation stories in my new book — which I’ll be sharing much more about tomorrow.
I find that stories are one of the very best ways for us to learn; and so each section of the book is often accompanied by a story that illustrates the lesson, helping change your perception on a deeper level.
As you can tell, I’m very eager to share more about the book — but that will have to wait until tomorrow. Make sure you look out for the blog, as we’ll be revealing the contest winners as well.
Talk to you tomorrow!
With great love and gratitude,
Kimberly
