Moringa may be the ultimate superfood.
Moringa is a tree — a super unusual tree, because not only is it incredibly nutritious and highly valued for its medicinal properties, but absolutely every part of it can be eaten. Moringa is loaded with healthy vitamins, minerals, and enzymes, making it a true superfood in every sense of the word. There are many ways to consume Moringa and take advantage of its health benefits.
Moringa’s Miraculous History
Called “The Miracle Tree” by some cultures, it is said to be effective in treating upwards of 300 conditions and maladies. Although scientists have not studied all of its possible health benefits, we know for a fact that moringa contains many beneficial nutrients that everyone needs. If your diet is lacking in nutrients, moringa can be an incredible boost for your health.
The Moringa tree originates in India, where it has been prized for thousands of years, both as a bountiful source of nutrition, and a robust curative featured heavily in the ancient Ayurveda Medicine tradition. The Moringa can now be found growing in many different countries, bringing health, nutrition, vitality, and beauty to diverse populations across the world.
Like so many traditional folk remedies, Moringa’s healing and nourishing properties have sustained populations for centuries. People didn’t know why it worked, they just knew that it did. In ancient India, Maurian warriors were fed Moringa leaf extract at the war front to provide them with extra stamina and strength. Now, science has only started to study and prove all of moringa’s countless health benefits, and we can apply these discoveries to our own journey towards health, strength, and beauty.
Where Can You Find Moringa?
There are 13 varieties of Moringa, but the most common one, and the one we are focusing on here, is Moringa Oleifera. It has delicate, feathery branches with small, deep green, oval leaves that are wonderful in salads, teas, or as a healthy side dish. If eaten raw, they have a little bite to them like watercress or radicchio. When cooked, they tend to mellow out a bit, and are much more like spinach, but with a somewhat nutty flavor.
You’ll have a hard time finding fresh moringa; more likely, you’ll find it in powder or capsule form. Although before it was rare to find moringa in any form in North America, now you can get it from many online and brick-and-mortar retailers and can easily start taking advantage of its benefits.
Cooking With Moringa
Ground into powder, Moringa is used as a natural multivitamin that promotes health and beauty. The powder can be taken in capsule form, sprinkled into soups and sauces, added to your Glowing Green Smoothie, or steeped in hot water and consumed as a soothing tea with tons of nutritional, alkalizing and purifying benefits.
In this video below Kimberly speaks with Julie from Gardens for Health International, who mentions how in Rwanda they use the fresh Moringa in their Glowing Green Smoothie.
There are many ways to add moringa to your food — you just have to get creative.

The Benefits of Moringa: Nutrition = Health = Beauty
Once you have added nutrient-rich Moringa to your diet, you will notice positive changes like:
- Clearer, more youthful-looking skin. Moringa is rich in antioxidants and Omega 3 fatty acids which reduce inflammation and contribute to healthy cell production and regeneration. They help your skin retain its suppleness, helping to prevent lines and wrinkles while also boosting your immune system.
COMBINE MORINGA WITH OUR NATURAL SKINCARE LINE FOR BETTER SKIN
- Healthier hair, scalp, and nails. Because Moringa contains all of the essential amino acids, you will notice that dry, brittle hair and nails are a thing of the past after incorporating it into your diet. Vitamins C and E also help facilitate blood circulation in the scalp which is absolutely essential to the absorption of nutrients in the follicles.
- Increased energy. A single serving of Moringa contains about 3x the iron of spinach. Iron is essential to enriching the blood, carrying life, energy, and oxygen into our muscles, organs, and tissues. Move over sugary, high caffeine “energy” drinks, Moringa tea is here supporting health and vitality – without the crash!
- Clear vision and eye health. High in beta carotene and vitamin A, moringa supports healthy eyes and clear vision.
- Regular, healthy bowel movements. Moringa oils and fiber have a detoxifying effect to help scrub your bowel of waste and toxins allowing you to fully absorb nutrients from the foods you eat. Beauty is found in detoxification, a key player in the strength of your body, and the resilience of your skin. You can find out more about beauty foods in my book, The Beauty Detox Solution. You can also detox with our Detoxy 2.0 supplement.
- Healthy snacks: the seeds are great when eaten raw, or they can be toasted and eaten for a healthy snack. Be careful not to overdo, because even though they are yummy and satisfying, they do have a natural laxative/mild diuretic effect. Remember, a little goes a long way.
- Moringa can also speed up your metabolism and reduce your cravings, helping you with your weight loss goals in a more natural way.
LOSE WEIGHT THE HEALTHY WAY WITH SOLLUNA’S 30-DAY PROGRAM
- Moringa is a rich source of Omega 3 fatty acids, something our bodies must get from the foods we eat. Omega 3s are so integral to our health as well as our beauty because they:
- Reduce and regulate inflammation
- Keeps blood from excessive clotting
- Reduce cytokines, which are involved in inflammatory processes
- Improve insulin response
- Promote healthy cell membranes
- Regulate prostaglandin production
Additionally, the seeds can be pressed to extract a highly versatile oil, known as Ben oil, which has even more health benefits:
- Ben oil is high in monounsaturated fatty acids and healthy saturated fats. It is wonderful for use in frying and sautéing due to its high smoke point, and it’s also great for use in things like salad dressings. Bonus: this oil won’t ever go rancid!
- Ben oil is highly moisturizing for the skin, hair, and nails. Valued for its rejuvenating, repairing, softening and beautifying effects, Ben oil has been used for centuries in lotions, soaps, conditioners, cosmetics, and as a base for perfumes.
- Ben oil contains flavonoids, important antioxidants that protect our bodies and blood vessels while lowering inflammation. It also provides us with high levels of sterols which act to lower cholesterol as well as blood glucose levels.
Try moringa for yourself and start seeing the benefits in every part of your body.

Hi Angelo and thanks for checking out my blog and for sharing the link. Sending lots of love! ;)
I live on St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands where I grow my own moringa trees which are the focus of my handmade cold process soaps, herbal salve and body butters (https://themoringaexperience.com/).
I use the leaves and blossoms raw in salads, added to stews, casseroles, omelettes, homemade bread and even savory pastry. Make “bush tea” from stems, while the baby seed pods can be steamed or sautéed and are quite similar to asparagus!
They’re amazing trees!
Thanks Anna, for sharing your experience with growing your own moringa trees. So happy you are able to use it in so many dishes. Keep up the great work. Sending lots of love! ;)
I have a question; how do you know which Moringa product to buy? How do you purchase the best part of the Moringa Tree? When powdered does it include all part of the tree or just some? I want to try it!
Hi Aurora and thanks for checking out my blog about this amazing tree. I always encourage my Beauties to chat with your local health food store and ask them what organic brands they carry or can carry for you. They will be able to tell you the parts of the tree that are included in the listed ingredients. As mentioned in my post, eating the root is not recommended, since it has been found to contain alkaloids which can be toxic in large amounts, or to sensitive people. Sending lots of love! ;)
Hi Kimberly, does moringa cause any infertility issues?
Hi Vanessa…In some studies, Moringa has been found to be an effective antifertility treatment, and therefore, women in their childbearing years may want to avoid it. As always, I strongly encourage you to talk with your Health Care Practitioner to ensure you are receiving the best advice for your body and future goals. Sending lots of love! ;)
I confused moringa with morinda (noni fruit) when I saw the title of this blog. I have never heard Kimberly mention noni before and I am curious to know what she has to say about that as well? Is it as nutritious as everybody says?
I had Moringa powder in my pantry for a month and was not putting it to any good use. I recently became vegan 3 weeks ago and just ordered the China Study as well as your Beauty Detox Solution and Radical Beauty. I am very excited. I’ve been doing yoga everyday for a month and half and I just feel fantastic. I am excited to start following your advice, recipes, blog as well as read all your books. From a new mama to a new mama, my second pregnancy will be 100% VEGAN!
Valérie
That’s great Valerie and thanks so much for your support. Let me know what you think of my new book and what tips you’ve incorporated into your life. Sending lots of love! ;)

My sister is looking to going natural with her health supplements and thought moringa was worth looking into. It’s interesting to see that only one serving of it has 3x more iron than spinach. I know my sister will be happy learn that as she has a hard time getting enough iron into her system. Moringa sounds like it’s worth trying!
Thanks so much Deedee Lewis, for checking out my blog post. I hope your sister will find it interesting too and will give moringa a try. Sending lots of love and support! ;)
Nice article kimberley. People need to wake up to the benefits of moringa. They still seem to be in thrall to kale. Most people I know still haven’t heard of moringa at all. I first came across it whilst backpacking in India. It grows abundantly there. I was feeling a bit rough and a cafe owner recommended me a moringa tea. Perked me right up. been an advocate ever since.

Hello Kimberly,
I want to thank you for this Blog.I learned about Moringa last March. Found a guy here that grows and sells it. His name is Joe. His site is MohaveMoringa. Every since I learned about Moringa I’ve become obsessed with it. The more research I do the more I become intrigued with it. Anyway, I found your blog because I was wondering why my young Moringa trees about 2 ft tall have been flowering. Actually 2 out of 11 have. I’ve bookmarked this sight along with many others. It took a lot of failures to be able to finally get my trees to grow. I live in the desert so it is tricky.
Hi Matt F. and thank you for sharing your personal experience with Moringa. Happy to hear your trees are growing. Keep up the great work and sending lots of love and support! ;)

I’ve been using moringa for years and started my own company (much like yourself). I’d be happy to send you a sample of our tea or capsules. I prefer the tea myself as it has some soothing and calming effects, but moringa is awesome no matter how you take it.

Can the Moringa tree be planted in the northern states? Can it be raised as a house plant? I received some powder from the leaves from a neighbor friend when we were in Yuma AZ. I didn’t know anything about it, but brought it home. I am going to start using it now that I know more about it. He had given me some dry seed pods as well as some seeds, I would like to see if they would grow here in Wyoming. In making the tea or the smoothie what part do you use and is there a special recipe that you use. Any info you can give me would be appreciated. Thank you!!!
Hi Loretta! Moringa trees grow in warm climates, but you can always purchase moringa powder from your local health food store or online! You can enjoy moringa simply as a tea or add some of the powder in a smoothie. Enjoy! xx
