With Independence Day only a few days away, I wanted to be sure I armed you with my Fireworks Festive Smoothie Recipe.
Summer naturally brings more outdoor gatherings and BBQ’s, and I wanted to ensure that you will have fun, relax, and maybe share your amazing food-style and food-sense with all your family and friends!
No need to make a big fuss about it. Just show up with this tri-color of amazingly beautifying fruits, and your onlookers will want dibs on the next batch :).
Ultimate Beauty Food: Berries
This smoothie is packed with two of my favorite berries- strawberries and blueberries (well blueberries are my favorite of these 2, but strawberries seem to be everyone else’s fav berry!).
Strawberries
These soft, red, plump, heart-shaped berries are a great treat for the whole family, especially the little ones! ‘Lil Bub loved them when we went strawberry picking a few weeks ago :).
Strawberries is just one of many fruits listed under my Best Beauty Fruits due to their life-enhancing properties. Having the highest water content of any food group and supplying vital amino acids, minerals, vitamins and fatty acids.
Another thing I love about these berries (and all fruits, really), is they are a strong cleanser. They help dissolve toxic substances—cleansing our tissue and system—stirring up old toxic residue inside our body.
Strawberries provide antioxidant benefits and extends far beyond vitamin C. Just take a look below:
Strawberries contain a collection of polyphenol antioxidants that includes flavonoids, phenolic acids, lignans, tannins, and stilbenes. Each one of the polyphenol categories contain a large variety of antioxidants—shown to have anti-inflammatory properties.
Being an excellent source of vitamin C and just 100g has a whole day’s supply, they’re a great addition to any afternoon smoothie. They’re also a good source of folate (one of the B vitamins), and provide a good source of dietary fiber with all those amazing tiny seeds embedded in their skins.
Being naturally sweet (which comes from the sugars fructose and glucose), you’ll be just as thrilled to bite into that perfectly delicious strawberry, knowing it’s one of nature’s best gifts. And when picking your own, try selecting ones that are plump, bright and even-colored for the best taste.
Blueberries
The lovely blue color of these berries, is due to their antioxidant anthocyanin, which helps strengthen your eyes and your vision, and of course, beautiful skin!
In addition, they contain a special group of antioxidants that are called carotenoids and flavonoids; vitamins A, C and E; and selenium, zinc and phosphorus (all great for eye health).
Blueberries contain B vitamins (for energy), copper and iron. They are high in fiber, which provides roughage to the digestive tract, and are relatively low in sugar.
These berries have been considered a powerhouse, due to their being among the highest ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity), scores of ANY food.
This means that have the highest levels of antioxidant capacity of all fresh fruits (acai being the highest), and work to destroy potentially aging free radicals in an incredibly powerful way.
Purchasing Berries
If you haven’t heard me talk about the EWG’s Shopper’s Guide it’s time you get in the know! This non-profit environmental group test for levels of pesticides in our produce every year and create a list of the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen.
It’s so important, because it helps us identify the smartest place to put our budget. I say this because if we have a limited food budget, it’s best to avoid foods with high levels of pesticides, and purchase our organic foods from the Dirty Dozen list.
Beauty Food: Beets
One of the reasons I love beets, is that they are high in plant flavonoids and cleansing fiber and can improve the overall functioning of your liver– a beauty must when it comes to detoxification support!
So how do beets get that beautiful red color? It comes from the pigment betacyanin—stimulating liver function and helping to oxygenate the blood—increasing the oxygen-carrying ability of the blood by up to 400 percent.
The iron in beets makes them a powerful blood builder and cleanser, and pure blood transports nutrients better, for optimum health. And speaking of health, beets are a natural colon cleanser—removing toxins and congestion from the body, including capillaries traveling to the eye, so that your eyes can become brighter.
Beets are rich in antioxidants and calcium, iron, magnesium and fiber, and have a high concentration of vitamins A and C. They are filled with folate, which is key in producing new cell growth and healing.
If that wasn’t enough, beets are extremely alkaline and high in antioxidants (great for those who may have an overly acidic condition).
Beauty Beet Tip!
If you’re lucky enough to shop at your local farmers market, be sure to save the tops and use them in your Glowing Green Smoothie®, for an extra boost of nutrients. These greens are truly one of the best leafy green sources, due to their chlorophyll, iron, potassium and vitamins A and C.
Don’t forget Beauties, we all have the power to bring a dish that we love to eat! Just go into it with the mindset that you feel better eating this way. And if anyone even cares enough about what you are eating to ask, then it’s a great opportunity to share The Beauty Detox Solution with them, and share the love!!! xo

Yummy! It looks amazing! Delicious!
This looks so delicious and refreshing! However I have to ask, is this properly combined? The beets with the fruit make me a little nervous to try this recipe. I am on your Blossoming Beauty Phase.
Hi Brittany – first and foremost, listen to your body. If you’re feeling hesitant, then stay away from this combination. However, if you feel up to trying it, have a few sips and see how you do. I’m always checking my recipes for proper food combining, so no worries there. Let us know how you do and sending you lots of love and continued support! ;)
