In order for our skin to look its best, we need to keep it nourished and hydrated from the inside out. We do that with our Glowing Green Smoothie®, and now, with my new Honeydew Melon Refresher Smoothie Recipe!
Summer Hydrating Fruit: Honeydew Melon
Now wait a minute! You’re probably wondering if I’m going back on my beauty rule to, “only consume melons alone” for better digestion, right? You’ll see that here we are keeping this smoothie real simple and sticking to the principles!
In Beauty Detox we generally say to always eat fresh fruit on an empty stomach. Some fruits combine with greens, as we have seen in our Glowing Green Smoothie®.
One fruit in particular (bananas), have a little bit of different qualities as well because they’re very low in water, starchier, and digest slower. That’s why it can be okay sometimes to put banana, for instance, in the Power Protein Smoothie.
Melons, on the other hand, should be eaten completely on their own. I suggest not mixing them with other fruits. It’s very common, especially in airplanes, where they make these little fruit salads with tasteless little pieces of melon or one piece of kiwi.
Eating Melons Alone
Here again, is where you want to have the melon alone, not with other fruits, and not with other food. If you must, you can have melon at least 30 minutes before a meal. You would never want it with a meal.
For instance, melon and prosciutto seems to be a popular appetizer, but is a big beauty no-no! Melons just do not digest well with other foods, plain and simple, and causes poor digestion.
If you’re really trying to be more careful, you could blend the melon. It’s so high in water, you could blend it with coconut water or coconut ice cubes & coconut nectar. Again, keep it super simple with melons!
There are so many amazing varieties of melons available in the summer, and I love them all! Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Honeydew, Canary and more. Melons are an amazing source of vitamin C, antioxidants like lycopene (watermelons), or beta carotene (cantaloupe), and are probably the most hydrating fruit.
Because melons are so watery, hydrating, and easy to digest, I highly recommend them as ideal foods to consume before or after activity. Just stick with one melon at a time, and eat it alone, apart from other foods for at least 1-2 hours—which will give you its greatest benefits.
Beauty Hydration: Coconut Water
If you hadn’t noticed from all my past smoothie recipes, I absolutely love using coconut water as a base. Not only is it thin, but it’s super light, and has an amazing sweet yet earthy taste.
Some key nutrients found in coconut are potassium, magnesium and calcium. The potassium is an electrolyte that helps to facilitate cellular cleansing and is about twice as concentrated in coconut water, as in a banana.
Because coconut water is so full of electrolytes—like potassium—it helps to regulate the fluid levels inside cells and balance the high amount of puffiness, that may come from too much sodium intake.

Let’s not forget how critical it is for our beauty, vibrancy, and energy to stay hydrated, and coconut water is a great way to do just that!
You will feel like you are putting nature right into your body when you drink it down. Being rich in trace minerals that come from up from the roots of the coconut trees from the native islands and other places where they are grown, you will feel transported and full of life (which we can all use come afternoon!).
