Creamy Dairy-free Sweet Potato Salad

Who doesn’t love a good potato salad?! It’s one of my favorite comfort foods and my Creamy Dairy-free Sweet Potato Salad Recipe is one I personally turn to time and again, so I can avoid all the dairy-laden ones found at most gatherings.

Give this one a try and start taking control of the foods you put into your body!

Dairy-free is best!

The dairy industry certainly has spent a lot of money convincing us that milk is essential for good health, haven’t they? Starting this indoctrination about dairy information early on in childhood.

It’s critical we do our own research and not succumb to information that will inevitably effect our health, and our families’ (and not for the better).

When we really look at nature and how it’s created, we see how mammal mothers are able to nurture their young. After giving birth, mothers produce milk in order to nurse their young through the first few months or years of their life.

In nature, cows stop producing milk after the calves are weaned. Dairy farmers continually breed the cattle in order to maintain ongoing lactation. This is really going against nature and what was/is intended.

On the other hand, human babies are intended to drink breast milk for the first few years of life, not cow’s milk. Cow’s milk is intended for baby cows.

Unfortunately, the milk humans consume isn’t human milk, but rather, cow’s milk — and there are many reasons to avoid dairy.

Below are just 2 elements I want to highlight that make it very difficult for the human body to process dairy and again, why we should try to avoid it at all costs.

  • First Element: High levels of casein is milk’s primary protein. Difficulty digesting protein can cause damage to the intestines and stomach, which can lead to autoimmune and malabsorption disorders and poor health.
  • Second Element: The second part of cow’s milk is very difficult for humans to digest is lactose—the sugar in milk—which can cause digestive disorders and upset stomach.

Doesn’t sound healthy, does it? Yet, over the years, many people believe that dairy products (milk, sour cream, cheese), play an important role in the diet because these dairy products contain calcium. Yet there is actually a net loss of calcium from our bodies when we consume dairy, because dairy is so acidic upon digestion that the alkaline mineral of calcium is leached from our bodies to buffer the acidity of digesting dairy, and excreted out through our urine…again that is a net LOSS of calcium overall!

The fact is, in nature, dairy is not designed to be consumed by humans. When you go against the laws of nature, various health issues can arise, such as the list below tells:

  • Lactose leads to gas, bloating and discomfort—decreasing insulin sensitivity and a precursor to type 2 diabetes.
  • Since casein is the protein in dairy products, this actually promotes cancer in all stages of development.
  • Dairy is extremely acid-forming.
  • Dairy is extremely mucus-forming—slowing digestion—leading to more toxicity being compounded in the digestive tract and throughout the body.

With that being said, we should avoid dairy products including milk, cheese, yogurt and kefir, and opting for a more plant-based diet, that is found in all my books, starting with The Beauty Detox Solution.

In this recipe we are able to enjoy a creamy potato salad without ANY dairy — opting for a tasty and creamy dressing that will be just as satisfying! ????

However, if you choose to add in some healthy nut milk alternatives, you can use almond, hazelnut, and coconut milk, as well as rice and hemp milk.

We really CAN make simple healthy changes in our lifestyle when transitioning from one source of food to another. Nature really has blessed us with an abundance of healthy alternatives, hasn’t it!

Easy to Prep Sweet Potatoes!

I know it’s easy to convince ourselves that potatoes take too long to cook. However, that’s no longer the case. Just by cutting them into little squares can save you lots of time, and in this recipe this is exactly what we do. Chop ’em, coat ’em, toss ’em in the oven, and walk away!

You can even choose to steam these babies, making the process even shorter — just be careful to not overcook or you’ll have mashed potatoes on your hands! Which is not a bad thing, but just a little mushy for this particular recipe :).

With all that being said, sweet potatoes are my jam and are included in many of my Beauty Detox recipes and are an absolute staple in the Beauty Detox lifestyle.

You can see from their beautifully brilliant orange color, they are packed with vitamins A, B6 and C and are naturally low in sodium, and very low in saturated fat and cholesterol.

Prepare ingredients.

Creamy Dairy-free Sweet Potato Salad

Preheat oven to 375 F and place chopped sweet potatoes coated in coconut oil on baking sheet. Top with salt and pepper and cook for about 45-60 minutes until tender.

Creamy Dairy-free Sweet Potato Salad

Combine green onions, red bell pepper, yellow squash, and cilantro in bowl.

Creamy Dairy-free Sweet Potato Salad

Mix maple syrup, mustard, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper to create sauce.

Creamy Dairy-free Sweet Potato Salad

Add cooked sweet potatoes and red onion to bowl with veggies and toss with dressing.

Serve warm or chilled. Enjoy!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 large sweet potatoes cubed

  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 yellow squash
  • 1/2 cup cilantro

  • 2 Tbsp. mustard
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice

  • Sea salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
