Spring is officially here Beauty! As I talked about earlier this week in my most recent VLOG, Spring is an amazing time for detox! It’s time to take this succulence and go well beyond our windowsills, with my Aloe Vera Cleansing Smoothie Recipe.
Yes, this green, spiky plant may be good for scrapes, cuts, and burns but did you know it has cleansing benefits too?! ????
Let’s find out how…
Cleansing Beauty Juice: Aloe Vera
While you may have grown an aloe vera plant at one time or another, did you know that for thousands of years it’s been used in medical practices? That’s right!
The extract of this plant is extremely potent and some of the most important components of the leaves of this plant are amino acids, beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin B, vitamin E, lignans, and other minerals and enzymes.
As for its juice, Aloe vera juice is made from the leaves of the aloe vera plant, and is made by crushing, grinding, and blending the entire leaf. Who would’ve thought the whole leaf too!
Once several filtering steps have taken place, the juice can then be consumed for its concentrated nutritional values.
Though the smell of this plant can be potent and hard to chug down (like was popular back in the day. I do not recommend this as it can be quite nasty!!), the juice is really quite mild and easy to drink.
I personally like to add it to other drinks (like in this smoothie), but if you can handle the smell and taste, then I say, go for it! You can also add aloe vera to water, with lemon, and your favorite organic sweetener for a refreshing and tastier drink than when drinking it solo.
So why has Aloe vera juice become so popular as a health supplement or dietary drink?
Aloe Vera Juice Benefits
As you may have guessed, its standout benefit is its power to cleanse our insides. Yes, from our mouth down through our guts.
And when I talk about our guts, this really has everything to do with assimilation and digestion. Due to the high water content of aloe vera juice, it can help to keep you hydrated and stimulate healthy elimination — helping to relieve the body of excess toxins, including fats and salts — being an excellent at detoxifying the body.
Aloe vera juice can also improve your digestive process and relieve constipation by lubricating the intestines — increasing nutrient uptake and prevent discomfort from things like bloating, cramping, and flatulence, and therefore, aiding us in digestion.
In order to have the best environment for our guts, we need to have a balanced pH. Unfortunately, many people tend to have an overly acidic stomach.
The great news is, aloe vera has alkalizing properties, which makes it ideal for keeping our tummies functioning normally and maintaining a proper microflora balance. The end result — aloe vera juice helps prevent gut irritation.
So aside from all its popular topical uses, aloe vera juice really is an all-around excellent body cleanser. Removing toxic matter all the way from our stomach, kidneys, and spleen, to our bladder, liver, and colon — all of which are critical in keeping and maintaining our health, beauty, and overall well-being.
In addition, aloe is effective at more immediate relief from ailments, such as indigestion, upset stomach, and gut inflammation.
All of this combined with the cleansing and beautifying benefits from the fresh spinach, ripe banana, juicy pineapple, detoxifying green tea, and a little date for sweetness, and you have yourself a power cleanser that should be a part of your beauty meal plan, any time of the week!
Let’s feed our guts with only the best ingredients and start pulling out the ingredients!

I was wondering if you blend the entire leaf not just the fleshy clear gel on the inside? I’ve been looking up different ways to make aloe vera juice and all recipes I’ve found so far say to cut away the green outside of the leaf and only use the clear jelly stuff on the inside. Could you please confirm?
Thanks
Hi Danielle…You can eat the plants leafs, however, only use aloe vera from a supermarket or farmers market you trust. Not all aloe vera is safe to eat. For example, the aloe vera you grow yourself as a houseplant is not meant to be eaten. Instead, purchase large aloe vera leaves in the produce section of a supermarket. As with any food, keep track of how often you eat the leafs and how your body reacts (in a journal). I always suggest talking to your health care practitioner as well, to ensure you’re getting the foods your body needs. I personally don’t eat the outer part – it’s all about preference is all. Lots of love to you and let us know how you do! ;)
It was really tasty and i loved that it was warm, the green tea was a nice kick and change to a standard smoothie. I just have to say that i really enjoy your recipes overall and i am not vegetarian :)… Thanks :)!
Thanks for sharing your personal feedback and so happy you enjoyed it. Lots of love!;)
I just wanted to let you know I’ve been using Aloe for awhile for various things, and this recipe was super yummy!! I also really liked how you highlighted the many, many benefits of aloe. I use a certain type called Aloe Arborescens. It has a really cool history and there have been clinical studies about it having sooooo many benefits for different parts of the body, but the most significant imo is how it’s been linked to preventing/curing cancer! I read about it on this site if you want to check it out, it’s what really motivated me to try aloe! Here is the link —- > https://www.cancercanbecured.com/cancer-cure/
Anyway, thanks again for sharing the great recipe!!
Hi Rachel – thanks for giving this recipe and try and for sharing the link. Keep up the great work in taking care of your health. Lots of love to you! ;)
Kimberly — Would you be so kind as to tell me why you used green tea in the recipe? I cannot drink it, as it literally makes me shake, and I have anxiety. I do not have the same reaction to white tea. Is there a special reason for the green tea other than the antioxidants it provides? This looks like a good recipe, but I am waiting to try it. Thank you.
Hi Karyn – thanks for checking this recipe out. Please feel free to use another tea that you have a good reaction to. I like to try new ingredients that are packed with health benefits but most herbal teas will contribute to your health, so have fun choosing and let me know how you do. Lots of love! ;)
Hi, I don’t use green tea either due to high caffeine. I exchange them to free or low caffinee tea as such rose tea or ginger. I also used coconut water instead of tea.
That sounds like a great substitute Cassie! Sending you lots of love xx
Hey Kimberly, sounds like a great smoothie to try! I was just wondering if you used the actual gel from the leaf and if so how much do you use to make 1tbs? I’ve picked up aloe juice from Trader Joe’s…do you think that’s an ok juice? Thank you always for all that you do! Hope all is well with you and baby Bubs
just made this smoothie it was really good I hope that this will help me with my weight loss as well cause with this smoothie and the others I like this one even more thank you so much.
So much love and support to you Stephen. Happy to hear you’re on this journey and that you liked this smoothie. ;)
Hey i cant drink tea so is there something else i can use instead of tea
You could always substitute with water or even coconut water! Happy blending xx
So, green tea? Hot tea bags? I am confused can you break that down & what you mean by boiling it
Hi Anne! You can steep one green tea bag in the 8oz. of hot water, then blend the tea with the rest of the ingredients :)
Is this okay to make without spinach? I just don’t have any at the moment so am curious.
Hi Jamie! Yes, you could make it without spinach, and even swap it out for another leafy green! ;)
Can I use the aloe vera juice from supermarket instead of getting aloe plant? Also, can I any kind of smoothie with just aloe vera juice? Thank you
Hi Beauty! Aloe vera juice from the supermarket often has other ingredients in it, like sugar, preservatives and other flavoring, which is why I prefer to use the plant directly. If you want to buy aloe vera juice for convenience instead, I recommend finding one that is organic, non-GMO and with the fewest ingredients! Sending you lots of love xx
hi Kimberly, thank you so much for providing us with amazing recipes. Can I add spirulina or ashwaghanda into the smoothie?
Hi Beauty! Yes, you can add superfood powders to this smoothie, or you could try out my other drink recipes that include spirulina and ashwagandha, like this: https://mysolluna.com/blog/2017/10/08/creamy-spirulina-greens-smoothie-recipe/ and this: https://mysolluna.com/blog/2018/04/08/sweet-sleep-banana-elixir-recipe/.
