Today our vlog topic is on Botox – Toxic Bacteria or Wonder Injection. I get a lot of questions about Botox and many of you that want to know my opinion on it. I’m sure you know a lot of people that do Botox. It’s super common and so widespread today. What is going on with this Botox, Botox injections?
What is Botox?
First of all, let’s talk about what it actually is. It is injectable drug made from botulism toxin type A. This is a type of toxin. It’s the same type of bacteria that causes serious food poisoning called botulism. However, Botox injections are not ingested.
These injections are delivered in small doses to different parts of the body and are considered safe by the USFDA. Besides skin issues, anti-aging issues, Botox is actually used for some other health issues, which is really interesting, which we’ll get into in a moment, such as migraines and overactive bladders.
Uses of Botox and its Benefits
People inject Botox into different parts of their face, where it starts to paralyze or weaken certain muscles so it smooths out wrinkles. Botox is actually used for migraines.
Botox Injections for Migraines
A study published in the Journal of Head and Face Pain found that Botox is quite effective in helping to reduce migraines in its subjects. Now, it’s also used for things like sweating, which I think is really interesting, and medical issues like urinary incontinence and TMJ because, again, it’s paralyzing the muscles. But let’s be real. People are using Botox mostly for wrinkles.
Botox Injections for Wellbeing
In a 2018 study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, found that cosmetic injections we’re giving people a psychological sense of wellbeing and increasing their confidence. Patients claimed that Botox boosted their mental and emotional wellbeing and improved their social life. These patients found that they were speedy, minimally invasive, and cost-effective compared to other procedures.
Is Botox is Right For You
In our community, Beauties, we do not want to demonize anything. I think what’s right for one person may not be right for another person. Similar to some of us who are fully plant-based, some of us are largely plant-based, some of us have friends and family members that are full carnivore and eat very little plant foods.
We don’t want to be divisive here. My take is if something makes somebody feel great and they have more confidence from it, I don’t necessarily demonize it.
When Considering Botox
Whether you choose to do Botox or not, make sure you are taking care of your skin, beauty, and your health from the inside out. In addition, really dialing in your diet, making sure you’re having a lot of nutrient-dense anti-inflammatory foods. We talk about all of this here in our Solluna Beauty Detox Community.

Botox in Your 20’s
Another aspect of this is I find more and more girls getting Botox preventatively in their early 20s even. We don’t know the long-term effects of Botox. It was just released in 2002. For me, I wouldn’t get Botox preventatively. I’m not in my early 20s anymore, but that’s not necessarily something I would recommend.
I’m all for people feeling good about themselves, but to me the whole preventative Botox thing by young girls is something that I think take care of yourself. This would be through your diet. You don’t necessarily need to get Botox at that age.
The Side Effects of Botox
There are studies finding long-term effects of Botox, where nearly half of the subjects experienced adverse reactions. This is when they were using it for some medical conditions. But a lot of them found that half of the subjects found adverse reactions like breathing problems, slurred speech, and trouble swallowing.
Some people say they lose facial expression, there’s numbness, weakness. Again, Botox is relatively new, so you don’t necessarily want to start on it when you’re super young.
Lifestyle factors like diet, proper sleep, and stress are a way to really improve the look of your skin – if you choose not to get Botox. This is personal choice. I don’t want to demonize anyone that is choosing to get it.
Make sure you talk with your doctor first. If you’re pregnant and nursing, these are not times I would recommend getting anything that’s injectable and are putting toxins in your body. Talk with your doctor and see how you personally feel.
Do things that feel authentic and good to you. Remember that lifestyle has a huge impact on your skin and on your beauty. To me, those are the most powerful measures of all.
