Beauties, can you believe spring is just around the corner? Many of us like to do a spring cleaning for our homes, airing out the staleness and dust that accumulated over the winter months. In the same vein of thinking, I also love doing a spring cleansing for our bodies with a detox greens smoothie, just like we cleanse our homes for the change of season!
Maybe we indulged on heavier foods during the winter, or maybe we have a vacation planned where we want to be bikini-ready. Whatever the reason for detoxing and cleansing, this Detox Greens Smoothie is a great tool for that.
Greens are among the most nutrient dense of all foods and are full of alkaline minerals, chlorophyll, and amino acids. They make up our key beauty foods that regenerate and purify our cells. This smoothie is bursting with cleansing and detoxifying greens for healthy glow that starts from the inside-out!
Detoxifying Dandelion Greens
Now you’re likely familiar with some more common greens, like spinach, romaine, kale, arugula. But have you ventured out of your comfort zone and tried dandelion greens yet? They are truly a magical green that are loaded with amazing cleansing and beautifying powers.
From the flower to the leaves and roots, you can enjoy every part of a dandelion and reap from its amazing benefits! Dandelion greens contain iron, protein, and calcium. All three things that help keep us strong and healthy! Dandelion roots also contain choline, another liver stimulant, which supports the body’s natural detoxification processes. They also are bursting with Vitamins A, K, B2, and C!
According to the National Institutes of Health, Dandelion greens have long been used for detox. Native American, Chinese and Arabic cultures used dandelion greens as a powerful healer for liver and gallbladder problems. If you search your local market or farmer’s market you are likely to find fresh dandelion greens.
Digestion-Boosting Pineapple
My Detox Greens Smoothie makes a wonderful cleansing and detoxifying smoothie. Combining dandelion greens and pineapple really helps to improve digestion, packing a double-punch that keeps bloating down.
Pineapple not only hydrates, but is also packed with bromelain—a special compound that helps to promote optimal digestion—which is key for truly supporting you in expressing your True Beauty. And when your digestion is running optimally, the absorption of nutrients and the removal of waste from the body improve as well!
Pineapple helps the body naturally detoxify itself and lose weight. The bromelain enzyme boasts anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce the onset of aging, pain and even disease.
Beautifying & Energizing Spirulina
When doing a spring-cleaning detox, it doesn’t hurt to get some beauty- and energy-boosting nutrients in too. ;) My Detox Greens Smoothie recipe achieves this with spirulina. This superfood is amazing at providing energy, restoring hair and skin health, and boosting brain function and immunity.
Spirulina contains the highest levels of carotenoids, promotes health and longevity with its high antioxidants, and is one of the most complete food sources in the world (with over 100 nutrients, it contains an over 60% protein content).
The plant-based non-heme iron in spirulina is best absorbed in the presence of vitamin C, which is why it’s beneficial to add fresh lemon juice whenever possible- or vitamin C-rich green and veggies, as we do in this recipe.
When purchasing spirulina, try to look for a brand that is pesticide-free, non-GMO and preservative-free. One of the brands that I like to use is Nutrex Hawaii Pure Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica.

Sounds delicious! How long should you do the smoothie cleanse for?
Hi Beauty! You could integrate this smoothie as part of your daily routine for an ongoing cleanse, or drink it throughout the day for 1-2 days if you want a stronger cleanse. Sending you lots of love! xx
Is spirulina safe to have while pregnant? I bought some but I’m weary it says to consult a doctor on the package?
Hi Amanda! Spirulina is typically safe to consume while pregnant, but I always suggest checking with your doctor if you have any concerns! xx
Hi Kimberly, I love your Green Smoothie in your book. However, I lose too much weight in my face and it starts to sag when I start eating more plant-based foods and less animal protein. What can I do to prevent this, because I really enjoy the energy and love that I’m eating healthier. How can I put on weight with your program in The Beauty Detox Solution?
Hi Beauty! Thanks for your question! Making sure you’re eating enough at mealtime is important, and not feeling hungry after meals. Every body is different, so what might be enough food for one person is not necessarily enough for another. I suggest making sure you’re getting enough protein and fat in your diet, which you can supplement using vegan protein powder (my favorite is Sunwarrior) or nuts/seeds. Of course, listen to your body for what feels right. If you’re still hungry after eating a meal suggested in the Beauty Detox Solution, you can always follow up the meal with a protein shake or smoothie! Sending you lots of love xx
