Today’s solocast topic is: The 3-Part Process for Getting Past Comparison
We all know that comparison is one of the biggest stumbling blocks on our journeys towards really feeling peaceful and fulfilled in our life. It is a form of fear. It is a form of not feeling good enough.
It also leads to burnout because the mental fatigue that comes from constantly comparing ourselves over and over again, really burns out our bodies. It burns out our minds and it just keeps us from really living our fullest potential. I want to get into this process today and share how you can start living your best life, free from comparison.

Hi Beauties and welcome back for our Monday solocast podcast, where our topic today is the 3-Step Process for Getting Past Comparison once and for all. And we all know that comparison is one of the biggest stumbling blocks on our journeys towards really feeling peaceful and fulfilled in our life. It is a form of fear. It is a form of not feeling good enough, and it also leads to burnout because the mental fatigue that comes from constantly comparing ourselves over and over again, really burns out our bodies. It burns out our minds and it just keeps us from really living our fullest potential. So I want to get into this process today, and I also want to share that this is an outgrowth of a much bigger conversation, which I am so thrilled to share with you about today. Today is the day.

You’ll also get some one-on-one time with me. So I’m so excited. My loves, I have to say that this is without a doubt, the best book that I’ve ever written. It does not feel like it is my book. It feels like it really channeled through. This is everything that I’ve wanted to share with you for so many years. My greatest passion has always been to share with you what has helped me the most.
And you know, when I started off writing the Beauty Detox Solution, I was really learning much about food and I wanted to share how to get past bloating and low energy. And even before that, though, the reason, the way that I wrote that first book was I was able to use my will and my creative energy. And I was working with these teachings that I had learned from an amazing, great yoga guru called paramount Honsa yoga Nanda, who is actually the guru who brought yoga to the west. And he came here in the twenties and he started really talking about the true teachings of yoga, the universal truths, you know, one spirit, one great truth, many paths up, and it was causing such a, such an amazing stir in America. He went all the way to the top. He met with Calvin Coolidge, the president of the United States.
And to this day to modern day, many great thinkers and leaders, including Steve jobs have relied on Yogananda’s teachings and integrated them into their lives. And I can say from personal experience, when I started really living these teachings and working with my energy in this specific way and tapping into my creative power and meditating in this way, I was able to write books. I was able to attract and very helpful people, you know, big celebrities that helped grow my platform and people that helped propel my message forward. I went from being a broke backpacker to really creating this amazing dream life. And so what I’m so excited about this book, you are more than you think you are, is for the very first time. I am sharing with you, my playbook for how to create your best life, not just food and diet, which I’ve covered in other books.
This book does not go into food and diet. This book goes into very practical ways to tap into your unique talents and to create your best stuff in the world. How to be truly confident, how to create lasting and sustainable abundance, how to attract in your soulmate, how to create a beautiful family life, how to create real inner peace and stillness. So I’ve been living these teachings now for over 12 years. And again, when I, when I first started out, the funny thing is I, I wanted to write a book and I wanted to share about my backpacking around the world, including to India and, you know, starting off with, with some of these teachings. And then when I first got my book deal, which was the one which was with Harper Collins, they said, well, you know, we can write that book at some point, but let’s start with this book.
Let’s start with a food book because the food part is really starting to pick up on your, on your blog, which back then was Kimberlysnyder.net. And so I went with that. And so that would become the Beauty Detox Solution, which did really well. And then it parlayed into the Beauty Detox Foods. And it sort of was this, you know, this, this train that had started going that direction. But from the beginning, I wanted to really share the core of how I, how I got started. So many people have asked me, how have you created your dream life? How have you been, you know, successful? How have you done this? How have you, you know, reach these people and all of the answers, my loves are in this book. As I mentioned, I am sharing my whole playbook for the first time. And so I think you are going to love the book.
It is right from my heart. It is very raw. It is very real. Um, I talk about, you know, how it went from feeling really low as a single mom, into creating the most insane heart conduction love I could ever imagine. And again, from going from, you know, being pretty penniless to creating some real abundance and some real magic in my life, and I know if I can do it, you can do it too. So You Are More Than You Think You Are practical enlightenment for everyday life. I cannot wait to share this with you guys, and please check out the, um, again, you can go to our bookPage@mysolluna.com slash you, or more, you can Google the book. You can check it out on, you know, Amazon or Barnes and noble online, anywhere that you like to get your books. And on the book page, there is information for, you know, easy way you can screenshot your receipt and send it in to get the first two chapters and two or more, you get this amazing full course that we will be selling after the book launch.
But in this limited time, you will get it for free. So, oh, my loves this. This is feels like such an honor. And this is something that has been building in me for a really long time. And I just know that this is going to help you move past emotional blocks and limiting beliefs that may be really holding you back from tapping into the infinite potential and the joy that is inside of all of us. Universal truth means it is true for every single person, not just some of us or a part of us, but all of us. And so I just feel like, you know, some of us haven’t had access to these tools to these teachings and no one is better than anyone else. So we need that, that equality, we need to make this available to all. So there are ancient teachings along with my personal stories and stories of others and also supportive science.
You can see that this is a very integrated time proven, you know, just solid, solid approach. And it’s very, very, very practical. So I want to get into our topic today as well, which is about the three-step process for getting past comparison.
And the first thing is, you know, the, the title of the book is you are more than you think you are. So you may ask yourself, well, what do I think I am? And if we are comparing ourselves to other people, it means that we think we are this small limited being that is only what we can see with our two physical eyes. It means that on some level, we think that we are this, you know, just what we see. So we, we don’t really have an expansive quality to us. We are finite. We can only do certain amounts of things.
We fall into certain labels that we have constructed for ourselves. These constructs like, oh, I’m fairly smart, but not the smartest or I’m okay at this. I’m really bad at that. Um, you know, I’m somewhat pretty, but not really. I, you know, I really struggle with this. I’m not as good as that. I’m not as good as this or whatever. All that means when we are comparing ourselves to other people, is that we are identifying with what yoga Nanda calls, the pseudo soul, which in other words, is the ego. And the ego is this constructed identity that we eat each and every single one of us has made of ourselves. And it is able to be defined by numbers. It is quantitative. It is, you know, the, the physicality of our two eyes can see it, oh, look, my hair’s turning gray or, oh, look at this, you know, the bank statement, I guess I’m only worth what this salary says I make, or how much money I have.
By definition, the ego subscribes to finiteness, it subscribes to all of these labels. And when we compare ourselves, it means we are giving power to the ego. It means we are giving power to all of these labels and we are putting our identity completely in that. So we have another part of us. And the other part of us is what Yogananda calls the true self. And you may have heard me start talking about this term for a while. Now. I definitely have been talking about it on social media, which is, you know, one of the places where I think people really need to start tapping in and paying more attention to their true self versus the, uh, the pseudo self of the ego where, you know, so much of this comparison stems from. So the true self is something that, you know, the, the, the yogis and all spiritual leaders from many, all this, all the different faiths can write full books about.
Now, I wanna, I wanna pause there and, and, and clarify something here. When I’m talking about yoga, when I’m talking about universal truth, I’m talking about more awareness, more awakeness. This has nothing to do with religion or religious beliefs or dogmatic beliefs. You can be listening to this and you can be a atheist or an agnostic, or a Christian or Muslim, or a Jew, or a Hindu Catholic, whatever you are, this applies to you, this is a universal truth, and you can use the word, you know, whatever form of spirit or whatever, you know, um, your, your connection, or maybe if you don’t, you don’t connect to any form. You may say universe, the universe source, all of this is, um, universal. So none of this excludes anyone it’s sort of like in the beauty detox solution. I said, right from the beginning, I’m not talking about, you know, trying to label a specific diet here, because if you look at our human anatomy, this is universal, right?
We all have a liver. We all have a GI tract. We all have one stomach. We all have certain digestive enzymes in, uh, you know, assuming a healthy body that are secreted in the saliva and different organs within the body. So this is, is, this is based on, you know, the, the shared, the shared characteristics of all humans and what I’m talking about here and in this book are shared characteristics of all humans. We all experience joy states. We all experience flow states. We all have different aspects of our brain, including the medulla oblongata, which is at the base of the brain, which is where the, um, the spine comes into the brain. We all have a spinal cord. We all have, you know, a sleep wake cycle. So everything I’m talking about here today on the podcast and in the book is universal, universal one truth. So back to what I was saying, comparison comes from identifying with the pseudo soul, and we can all agree that there is a formless part of us. There’s the part of us. What is the part of you right now that is looking out of your eyes and, and sitting back and discerning and sitting back and even watching your thoughts. So going, even beyond the thoughts beyond all constructs, there is this formless part of you. And, you know, some language has used the term soul.
Some languages have used the term, you know, spirit inside of us. And here, as we’re talking about it, we can call it the true self. So the true self, which is this formless energy is beyond so far beyond any, any physical characteristic. It’s beyond what we look like. It’s beyond what we do. It’s beyond our job title and how much money we make, and any other label, any other thing that you can say it’s beyond all that it is this essence, this formless essence, I believe I-CAR totally uses that term. When he talks about our assets are a lifeness. He also says that term. So it goes beyond anything that’s measured or measurable. It goes beyond these tools of science, in a sense, which can, you know, science is always making progress, but science still comes from the limitations of the human mind. And I’ve had many different neuroscientists on this podcast, PhDs, you know, double doctorates, some of the most esteemed neuroscientists in the field.
And they’re the first to say, we don’t know that much about the brain. We don’t know that much about how the mind works. It is. There’s so much beyond our comprehension yet at the same time, we can all sense with our own intelligence. There is something more to me beyond this physical part. Now in quantum physics, this has been shown to be, you know, the difference between thinking everything is separate particles versus everything is part of this inter interconnected waves of energy, right? We don’t see that everything is interconnected. We don’t see that the, the so-called space is actually filled with pulsating, kinetic energy, but actually that’s the truth is that everything is actually interconnected and there’s energy. So there’s this energy inside of you was formless energy. And we’re going to refer to it here on, in as the true self. So when we start to identify with who we really are as this formless energy, as this true self, we start to strengthen our connection.
Our knowing of that, what that does is it starts to ground us in our everyday life. It’s almost like this feeling. And I saw Michael singer do it once in an interview with Oprah. He was the author of the untethered soul. And he talked about the ego, trying to pull us in, pull us in, like we’re leaning forward into situations. And he talked about this leaning back like this, ah, like this pulling back into, I don’t have to get involved in all of this stuff. I don’t have to buy in to any of this stuff that, you know, my ego gets slighted. It feels lesser than if I compare myself to someone I see on Instagram. And I think, oh man, they coped with, you know, the pandemic way better than me. Look what they did. They learned a whole new skill. They learned to play an instrument or, well, look, she’s so much more fit than me, man.
I need to get back into the gym. I need to start doubling my workouts. I’m so fat I’m. So this I’m so that right, that is us slipping again, into identifying with the ego. And so it’s very, very clear that we need to shift into more connection with the true self. And in the book, you are more than you think you are. There is an entire book of practical step-by-step ways to do that, that I have personally practiced now. And I will say that I was completely in my ego. And when I started and I was riddled with fear and, you know, looked around and didn’t think I was smart enough or had enough degrees or knew enough or had enough money to get started. But I was able to apply these teachings, the very teachings I’m going to teach you. And I was able to move past that super strong identity with the ego and move into this connection with the true self and boom, boom, boom.
My life started opening up. I was this flow. I started this free blog and I was passionate about, I was just talking about it to my yoga students. I didn’t advertise it. But then word of mouth started spreading through New York city. My first celebrity found me and then, you know, it just started skyrocketing from there. I got on a film set. I met other people. People started talking about stalking about me publicly. I got on my first national TV show. I started getting book deals. I started working with other people. It kept expanding and expanding. And the reason I didn’t stay in it because I, I very much kind of was because as always my guiding light is to share what has helped me the most. And I realized that food is a component of that, but it has to go far beyond food. These teachings living your life this way, the whole book is about very practical ways to look at things is how we tap into our true power, how we start to realize our true beauty.
So we need to work on strengthening that relationship with a true self. And today, um, I want to talk about a preliminary process, the three-step process, so that you can have a takeaway from the show. Normally you go after the show and you get the book and you can read the first two chapters. And one of them is about living a fearlessness existence. And I go into great detail about overcoming fear. And again, if you get two or more books, you will read that chapter and then you can go straight into the full course with 13 videos. And, um, again, a few of them, I teach you and hubby John, which is so much fun because we have burst through fearlessness together as we’ve come together as a couple, and you’ll hear his, um, his approach. He really has a, has a grounded, you know, I’m, um, I’ll have the masculine and feminine within us, but he has a masculine, a bit more of a masculine perspective of a bit more of a feminine perspective, if you will, but become balanced within each other.
And so together, there’s this real unity, this real, um, centerdness that comes through. So I’m very excited. I’m so fired up about this. You guys, I have never been more excited about any offering, any book, anything I have ever put into the world. I cannot wait for you to read it, but let’s talk about today. Three step process.
Step 1: Getting Past Comparison: Become aware of the sensations in your body.
So let’s say in everyday life, you are at your work and you suddenly get news that your coworker who started at the same time as you just got a promotion and you didn’t get a promotion, I start to compare. He started to think, Hey, this isn’t fair. Wait, what, what did she do? That was better than, than me. You start comparing your work. You start looking at emails. You wrote versus email. She wrote you start to compare. Wait, is she smarter than me? Does she, does she do things better than me?
You start to look at you versus her. Okay. That’s one example. Another example is you wake up, you woke up this morning, right? So you get up and you go on your phone and you check your email, check your texts, right? A quick text, back to your mom. And then, Hey, just go on Instagram. And the first picture that comes up on your feed is someone that creates a reaction in you. This person could have a so-called better body than you in your mind. Maybe be super fat or maybe have this dream life, or she’s doing retreats all over the world. And you haven’t been able to travel since the beginning of the pandemic, or maybe this person has five and this so-called dream family, and you haven’t yet met your soulmate or you have been struggling to have a baby right now. So I’ll give you another third scenario.
Um, let’s say that you are walking around in the neighborhood and you notice that there’s a bunch of cars in front of your neighbor’s house and oh wow. They’re getting a new landscaping put in and a brand new gate. And well, their house is getting painted and their house and everything about it is so much grander and shinier than your house. And you start to think, oh wow. I know it’s not in the place right now where I can do any of that stuff. So any of these scenarios, if they triggered a similar situation in your life or anything that you can relate to from the past, either far in the past, or maybe more recently, the first step in our process is to become aware of the feeling in your body that arose the second that that tinge of comparison came up. Okay? So not the thought of what it was because the mind will, we have to go beyond the constructs of thought here, right?
The mind will keep spinning and spinning and try to trick you and find justification’s or say, oh, there or show off or project something out, or, Hey, well, this shouldn’t be this way or that wasn’t fair. Forget the mind. Remember this is a process for you to become more free of, of comparison. This is a process for your growth and healing. This is a process for you to find more joy and peace. So you must must go pass the mind and feel the sensation where it is arising in your body. Your body is important here because your body doesn’t have the same constructs. As the mind, the body just will give you cues into sensations. And so the body allows us to harness greater wisdom. The body allows us to create more awareness so we can start to break limiting patterns in limiting beliefs. I didn’t realize this for a long time.
I thought, oh, let me talk it out. You know, kind of how in the west we’ve been really programmed to think that talk therapy is the only way without incorporating, incorporating any sort of somatic or body-based practices at all. But we realized since we are whole beings, part of our wholeness is that we are in a physical body. Okay. So step one, feel the sensations in your body. The moment comparison comes up. The moment you see that, that post on Instagram, that, that triggers something in you or the moment you, you know, who like found out something from, you know, your colleague getting promoted, or you saw your neighbor. What does it feel like in your body? I want you to get real clear. You could imagine it. Now you can tune in, or if it’s too hard to do that, the next time it happens.
So for me, it feels like a sinking feeling, hollowness from my heart down into my stomach. So it almost feels like this dropping feeling. And it’s right around my core. It’s not my lower belly. It’s like behind my heart, into my, um, like I said, my like the top of my stomach. And then I instantly feel tightness in my shoulders where it connects with my neck. So I feel tightness. I feel that dropping in and it’s so, you know, again, if you asked me, uh, 10 years ago, you know, what does comparison feel like? I would say, oh, you know, it just doesn’t feel fair. It feels like dah, dah, duh. I would use all these adjectives, but none of them would have to do was what was going on in my body. So now the second it comes in, I snap, I know what it is because I feel the tightness in my shoulders and the dropdown.
And I say, oh, that’s the comparison feeling. So it is essential as step one that you discern what’s happening in your body. So you can identify it and become aware. So the subtitle of the book is practical enlightenment for everyday life. Enlightenment is an awakening to truth, an awakening to who you are. And so we need to create more and more awareness to remove the blocks that keep us from our highest potential. So practical enlightenment, practically speaking, you need to feel the sensations in your body and identify them. What are they? Because it could be many external triggers. It could be one social media post on Instagram. It could be another one you saw on Twitter. It could be something on Tik TOK. It could be one conversation at a party.
Another conversation at, during lunch at work, all the external stuff is never ending in finites.
You don’t want to just focus on this person triggers me or it’s this thing, or one thing you want to focus on what is registered in my body, because it is your body and is what is always going to be with you in this life.
Step 2: Getting Past Comparison: Remind yourself you are in ego comparison.
So you need to identify with yourself. Okay? So number one, what are the sensations going on in my body? What are the feelings? What is happening? Number two second, part of our process. The second that feeling comes, you say to yourself, or you remind yourself, oh, I am identifying with my ego in this moment. So you start to link that feeling, that trigger that reaction with a reminder to yourself, that the reason this feeling is arising. The reason you are feeling that sensation in your body is because you are in that moment, identifying with your ego. And there is no other alternative.
That is the truth. There is some so in whatever form we can, we can get in, we can talk about this for, you know, many different iterations. That’s why I wrote a whole book about this. But the core of it is if you are comparing yourself and you have that feeling of not enoughness of not of lack, it means you are identifying with the limited part of you period.
So the second start, second step in the process. Isn’t necessarily in the beginning, especially going to start making you feel better yet, but you start creating really strong awareness of a pattern. Oh, I feel the sensation in my body doesn’t feel good. It’s here in my hips. Or I get these weird flutters in my stomach or whatever it is. Again, for me, it’s tightening in the shoulders that drop from my heart to my belly.
Boom, there’s that feeling? Boom. I know what it is. I’m identifying with my ego. You remind yourself time and time again. Ah, this is because I’m putting my worth my identity in the small part of me. So I want you to really, the first two steps start to go together, feeling belief system. I feel this and it means I’m identifying with the ego. So the third step and the most important step here. Well, they’re all important because they need to create that awareness. But the most important step into starting to climb out of the net so-called w can feel like the overwhelm, the never ending comparison trap is you start identifying with the true self. You do a practice to bring you into the true self. Again, this is the formless part of you. So what does this mean in everyday life? This means, and again, there’s so much more detail in the book that I can’t get into it all here, but it means I’ll give you some examples.
You pause, you stop. What are doing. You do not let a comment come out of your mouth. A judgmental comment. That’s a projection of you not feeling good. You don’t, um, let your thoughts start to slip into, oh my God, I’m not good enough. Uh I’m you know, I’m not going to speak up at the meeting. I’m so stupid. I’m gonna, you know, delete my post today. How could it ever compare to that other person’s, whatever it is, you stop all of that. And again, even if it’s the middle of the day, even, you know, depending where you are, depending how much time you are, you close your eyes, you take a couple of deep breaths. You put your full attention in your breath and you feel it going all the way down into your belly. And then you take a pause and then you exhale all the way up and you start to use your breath to go deeper, deeper below the surface, deeper below all the external activity.
When people are saying what you just saw with your two physical eyes, all of the, doing everything, emails, social media, you go deeper. You go deeper into yourself because that is where the true self is to be found. You will not find the true self on the surface. If you stay on the surface alone, that choppy water is going to keep you tossed around and you will continue to feel small, not good enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough. All of it. So you must pause in that moment after you say, oh, I’ve identified with the ego. Even if it’s for one minute in the middle of the Workday, even if you have to get up for a moment, say I’ve got to go to the bathroom and take a break from, you know, if possible from your kids for a moment, just go in the bathroom, close your eyes, take some deep breaths, let your shoulders relax, breathe into your body. And then you remind yourself, I am the true self. I am beyond these comparisons.
Step 3: Shift back to the True Self, connecting to this moment.
Now let’s get into that. It’s this is a process. And it’s sort of like when you start a new yoga practice or you started making your Glowing Green Smoothie® for the first time, it was very awkward. You might’ve been trying to measure the spinach the right way. And maybe when you put in cilantro, you didn’t know if you were supposed to put the stems in or not. And there was a lot of thinking and a lot of wondering and a lot of questions. And so it didn’t really feel like a flow, but then over time and over time, it became easel. And if you’ve been making it now and drinking it for a few years, you got that system pat, and you can just make that smoothie and drink it and feel great. So when you’re listening to this, you’re like, okay, I’m going to take some breaths, take some breaths, but I still have those feelings coming up of not being good enough over time.
And also separate to this morning and evening trying our practical enlightenment meditations, which are free guided meditations. I put them out for you every single week over on our Solluna app or mysolluna.com or any form of meditation that resonates with you. You start to get better equipped at disconnecting from the outside world temporarily and going deeper into stillness. It’s very simple, but it doesn’t mean it’s easy, but over time you’re creating a new pattern. And so you start to slow down, you break your identification in that moment with what’s going on. And then you say to yourself, a different pattern, a, an affirmation. I am the true self. I am beyond comparison and be present with those. With those words. At first, you may not fully believe that you are beyond comparison, but you are. And that is the truth because of the formless nature inside of you by nature is formless and by nature cannot be compared to anyone else or anything else.
You strengthen that connection to the formless part of you, like I said, through meditation, and also through practices like this, where you stop yourself in the middle of a comparison trigger, and you start to re-center. So, number one, you feel that an actual physical sensation emotions are energy in motion. So you will feel something. If you tune it a little Twitch in your neck, flutter in your stomach, tightening in your jaw, it’s different for all of us. So you have to become aware of what’s going on in your body. And then number two, you say to yourself, oh, this feeling means I just identified with my ego and the number three, take a pause, come back here right here. Right now, take some deep breaths, close your eyes. And you say to yourself, a full minute would be amazing just to break that pattern. I am the true self.
I am beyond comparison. So I’ve been walking, working, walking, walking with in a sense, talking with reading a lot about trauma lately. And we had Dr. Karol Darsa on here recently. Who’s an amazing trauma expert. And she says the way to break trauma patterns is to become aware of what you’re feeling, but stay here at the same time. In the present moment, you start to realize, okay, this isn’t a real threat. So it’s this almost like this. Um, you know, this, this, this, um, duality happening on at the same time, which is really, um, integrated back into oneness. At the same time we have an ego and we have this part of us. That’s the limitless true self. And when we start to say, oh, here’s this part of me, but here I’m present. And I bring it back to the true self. We start to create that awareness.
We start to break that pattern of comparison and the more we do it, the more we practice this, it’s very practical. We start to really un-tether ourselves from this debilitating, debilitating, um, pattern for most, all of us that create so much suffering takes us away from our inner peace, makes us feel like, and certainly keeps us from fulfilling our dreams. And our goals brings in fear, fear that we’re not good enough. And I can say for myself, I’m human. Just like you. I do still feel that comparison come in. Although 90% less than it used to be at least like way less, but it still comes. And when it does, I do this process, I say, oh, there’s the feeling? Oh, I’m identifying with my ego. And I sit back, I take a pause. I recenter, I shift my energy away. And then I come back and I feel a lot more clear.
And if it comes up again, I do the process again. And over time, this repeated process does start to create shifts in your brain to process called neuroplasticity, where we start to actually rewire our neural pathways. And we start to create new, healthier patterns of being. So the teachings of yoga Nanda, um, echoed these ideas of neuroplasticity. And he was talking about them at least 50 years before scientists started to use that term decades before. So as you’ll again, see in the new book, you are more than you think you are. There are very definite techniques and there is supportive science, astounding science from, you know, all these amazing journals, as well as Stanford and Harvard and very raw. Shall I say very raw stories from my own life and how this has helped me illustrative stories and how these teachings have really been the basis for me creating all the best stuff in my life.
