I wanted to discuss a topic I’m sure we all can relate to and that is the feeling of being too busy to always eat healthy!
We can get so caught up with our regular workweek that it can be difficult to prepare fresh, healthy, Beauty Detox Foods, every night of the week. I know I can certainly relate to this- being a new mom. ;) I want to arm you with some tips to ensure you are always filling your body with the best nutrition it needs no matter how busy you may be.
One of the ways I have successfully kept up with my healthy lifestyle is by heating up leftovers. Oh yesss, good ole leftovers! So how do we go about planning healthy food choices, not only for ourselves, but for our family, too?
1. Portion Size
I always emphasize this idea of portion sizes. One thing that has been a savior for me in this postpartum period with little Bub, is my frozen Veggie Burgers. I also love the Mushroom Burger that is in my Beauty Detox Foods book. I add variety to it, by adding different herbs, lentils or black beans….making an effort to switch it up often, so I can benefit from the varied nutrients.
After I’ve made a batch, I freeze the patties individually uncooked so I can have them for later. And rather than defrosting a whole bunch of patties at one time, try to wrap each patty individually, so that you can take one out at a time, preserving the rest for another night. We want to avoid thawing out and refreezing, since this depletes the nutrients. The same thing goes for your Glowing Green Smoothie®. If you make a batch on Sunday, try and freeze in portion sizes!
2. Meal Planning
Another way to get through the workweek is with a bit of meal planning. I know firsthand how difficult this can be at times, but it could be something as simple as pulling your food from the freezer the morning of, and letting it thaw out during the day. Planning your grocery list for the week and prepping your meals on the weekend.
Forming this habit will help in preventing microwave use (which I’m not a fan of), and will also allow you to turn your oven or stove on right away, so you can slowly heat your leftovers. A lot of my Beauty Detox recipes, such as the Quinoa Salads, hold up well when reheating.
*Note: If you do have to use your microwave, and are microwaving a healthy Beauty Detox food, that is still better than going out and succumbing to some type of fast food or low quality ingredient(s).
You can also eat many of the Beauty Detox foods at room temperature. When you come home from work, pull them out of the fridge and let them come to room temperature before you change into your comfy clothes.
Soup is also something you can make on a Sunday, in bigger batches, and take out the desired amount you want to eat- heating it up in smaller batches.
3. Just Do The Best You Can
In the end, do the best you can. Incorporate portion sizing (using BPA free containers), try to meal plan, and if you must use the microwave, it’s not the end of the world. Just aim to prepare more fresh healthy meals on the weekends to give your body a break.
My favorite saying in Beauty Detox is, “Progress, not perfection”. It’s something we all need to remind ourselves of. :-)
I will see you back here very soon.
Lots of love,
Kimberly
