Welcome back to our weekly blog where a topic this week is the Best Ways to Use Aloe Vera that you didn’t know about. I love to talk about the power of plants, plant medicine and plant foods. There’s so much amazingness that comes to us from nature that we can take advantage of if we start to build our wisdom and our knowledge of these amazing plant resources.

I personally live in California. There is a ton of aloe in my front and backyard, and I think it’s a beautiful plant. It’s a very resilient plant and grows in some harsh conditions. This plant has a lot of amazing uses that I want to get into today and I would love for you to take advantage of yourself.

Aloe Vera Benefits

Aloe vera has been used for over 5000 years. It’s said to be used by the ancient Egyptians and in different cultures around the world.

Aloe one of those tried and true plants that we can source pretty inexpensively and have a lot of potent benefits, which I want to get into right now.

Use #1: Detoxify from the Inside Out

First of all, I want to say that the extract of this plant has a lot of bioactive components such as amino acids, beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin B, vitamin E, minerals, enzymes. It has a very strong anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant profile. So it’s really great for improving digestion, helping your body heal, detoxifying your system, which is the first thing I want to talk about.

It is a great de-toxifier. You can get aloe vera juice and add it into your smoothies and into some of your elixirs. It helps to increase intestinal water content. It helps to flush your system of toxins. It’s great for those that have sensitive systems as well.

My first smoothie shop, Glow Bio, had little shots with aloe vera and some other compounds. Now my juice bar is in the Four Seasons at Beverly Hills. We are working to incorporate it in more because so many people say, “Oh my gosh, this shot, this elixir with aloe vera really did help me. I feel a lot lighter.” We would use it in all our different cleanses.

That’s one of the things that it’s best known for is really helping to encourage toxin release and bowel movements and peristalsis in a really natural way. I recommend if you are going to source some at home to look for a hundred percent pure organic aloe vera juice. No sweeteners, no preservatives, made in small batches.

Use #2: Improves Digestion

Number two, is aloe vera can really help to improve your digestion. It helps to reduce irritation in your stomach and intestines. We know when there’s constriction or cramping, things don’t move along as smoothly or as quickly.

Aloe vera is very soothing. It helps to create balance. It’s also very alkalizing in your system and has powerful beneficial effects for your digestion as well.

Use #3: Clears and Protects Skin

Third, it’s great for your skin, clearing and protecting your skin. A study published in the Organic and Medicinal Chemistry Journal found that aloe is loaded with polyphenols, giving it strong antibacterial and antioxidant properties.

Great for helping to reduce the frequency of acne and neutralizing the effects of UV radiation, which is very protective. I want to point out this is one of the reasons that we included aloe vera in our Solluna Feel Good Cleanser.

It is a wonderful way to start your skincare routine with its antibacterial properties by soothing the skin and really deep cleaning it—creating a balanced pH without stripping the skin. Use #4: Lowers Blood Sugar

Next is aloe vera can help lower blood sugar. A study found that drinking two tablespoons of aloe vera every day for two weeks help to lower the blood pressure among people with type two diabetes. And it’s just a great natural aid in this regard.

We know that diabetes is such a widespread problem. You or a loved one or someone you know may be suffering from this condition. I encourage you to read this study and check it out.

I will say that aloe vera does have a bitter taste, which is why I like to balance it in an elixir, with a sweetener like coconut nectar or if you’re going to put it in a smoothie. It’s great to use other greens and banana with it just to balance the taste. It’s sort of like spirulina, it’s super strong and it’s a little bit flavor dominant.

You want to make sure that you pay attention to that. But please don’t let that keep you off aloe vera. It’s obviously an amazing, potent, powerful plant. You could see the way that it grows. It’s strong and resilient. It can give you a lot of strength and resilience in your own body. I encourage you to check it out and let me know how you do.
