Kimberly: 00:00 Hi Beauties and welcome back to our Thursday, Q&A podcast or our topic this week is a big one, How to Find Meaning and Purpose in Your Life. So this is a huge, huge topic. We all know that I actually feel really inspired to do a whole course on this topic where we can deep dive on different aspects of it. And I can supply exercises and practices and meditations and journal prompts and lots of different things. But today we’re going to be discussing some, some big top line, um, information, wisdom, perspectives that I really want to share with you. Things that have really helped me along my journey, along my way, to finding my meaning and purpose and believe me for a while. It was a little bit, it was a little bit very cloudy there. Those of you that know some of my backstory know that I, you know, I didn’t exactly know what I wanted to focus on in college.
Kimberly: 00:55 There was some different shifts there. Um, at one point I always spend time interning in a hospital in the summer, and that didn’t feel good to me. And then I ended up backpacking around the world and I didn’t know what I was going to do with all of that exposure to world cultures and different ideas at the time. But I just knew that I wanted to travel. I know that I wanted to be free. And then later on, I was able to parlay that into my blog, into my, my career, my book writing, um, and so on and so forth. So there’s a lot here that I want to share with you. And sometimes, and I will repeat it at the end of the show, the, the thought of the day, the, the quote or the thought of the day or the week. I felt inspired to write it down as soon as I wrote this.
Kimberly: 01:41 Um, as soon as I hear I heard this topic. And so I wrote it down, I want to share it with you at the top of the show, which isn’t, it was something different than we usually do, but it has coming right from my heart. So I want to integrate this right in the beginning, and then I will repeat it at the end as well. So overall, the big theme for today and how to find meaning and purpose in your life. Our purpose is to connect to the true self spirit within us and all around us, and then channel and allow our unique energy and expression into service in the world. So when it comes to finding meaning and purpose, we have to connect to the true self, which is not the egoic self. It’s not the surface self. It’s the deep part of you, your unique energy.
Kimberly: 02:25 We can say, it’s the universe inside of you, God, inside of you source, um, spirit, whatever you want to say, but it’s this formless part of you that goose far beyond form energy is beyond form energy channels in many different ways. So first we connect to that unique essence and we do that through stillness, through meditation, through, um, community discussion of like-minded sisters and brothers, such as in Barcelona circle, introspection, like in journaling practices, stillness, we connect inward and we really need to do that because this world always trying to pull us outward and it can be very loud and very, um, distracting, shall we say? And then the next part is once we start to really connect inside, we start to become more aware and more attuned to our unique gifts and our unique, um, ways that we channel this energy out into the world.
Kimberly: 03:19 And that becomes our expression. It becomes all the infinite ways that we serve. We serve the spirit inside of us and around us. We serve each other because spirit and light is inside in each and every single one of us, we work to raise the vibration together. So it’s connecting to S to true self spirit inside, and then finding our unique way to serve. And ultimately to me, that is the meaning and purpose in life. And for me, you know, I had to really, you know, I found, um, the true self. I started connecting to the true self after going to India and learning to meditate. I started learning about Paramahansa Yogananda, great yoga grew over there and all these amazing teachings and little by little, I kept tuning in tuning, in tuning in, and along the way, all these amazing things started happening. I started to really find my unique way, my unique voice and my unique way to, to write and to put information forward and to speak and to share.

Kimberly: 04:16 And everything started to create form. And then Solluna started to form and all this stuff, but it really came from that twofold path. Question #1 around the topic of: How to Find Meaning and Purpose in Your Life: I have a fear of falling due to injuries from the past. I find it challenging to find any joy in my life now. What can I do to feel back to my normal self with joy and independence?
Kimberly: 06:09 All right. My loves let’s get right into our questions now. And the first one comes from Tricia lives in South Dakota, and she writes, I have a fear of failing due to injuries from the past oh, fear of falling. And there we go due to injuries from the past. I find it challenging to find any joy in my life. Now, what do I do to feel back to my normal self with joy and independence? So Trisha, thank you so much. My love for your question and sending you a big virtual hug out there to South Dakota. So we all in many different ways experienced trauma, and that creates a framework. It becomes a pattern in our life and we start reacting to different things. Even if they’re not really a threat, it starts to change our behavior. It starts to trigger us in different ways in your case, there was a physical fall. And so their physical injuries here, it could be mental, emotional trauma, spiritual traumas. There’s many different ways that trauma can limit us. So I will say in a, in a practical way, you know, if you’re, I, you know, if it calls out to you in any way to walk, to work with a qualified trauma expert or some sort of professional therapist that can really work with you specifically, um, that could be really helpful.
Kimberly: 07:21 I also recommend the books of Peter Levine, who is a trauma expert, and in some of his books, he gives very specific sound, physical movements and things that you can do with your own body to start recreating safety. So for instance, one of his practices is to take your right hand and to wrap it around your left rib cage, and then to take your left hand and to grab your outer right arm. So you’re essentially giving yourself a bear hug and moments when you start to feel that imaginary threat or feeling of safety that isn’t or unsafety, or, you know, just feeling like something is, you know, coming to potentially harm you. When there really isn’t, you put yourself in this position and you can take some deep breaths and create this physical boundary, this physical hug of your, of your body to feel your strength inside of you to start embodying that feeling.
Kimberly: 08:28 And so that’s just one of his exercises I’ve read, I think, two of his books, and there are many others and many other his YouTube videos and certain things. So, you know, professional therapist, and then you could read about some of these amazing writers works, um, that specializes in trauma, like, um, getting Peter Levine. And next Monday we have Dr. Karol Darsa coming on. And she also, um, is amazing. She wrote a book called the Trauma Map and we talk about trauma quite a bit. So you’ll hear that in just a few days, Tricia, she talks about how important it is to be really present right here. So besides what we talk about with breathing and meditation, which I’ll reinforce in a moment, her practices include really feeling your feet and really feeling grounded here in this moment and reminding yourself that you are safe right here.
Kimberly: 09:25 You can find joy right here in this moment. You don’t have to be trapped in the past. So back, you know, now I’ll take it to the, to the spiritual aspect, which has really helped me heal my childhood traumas and certain things that have happened to me, which is really opening up to the heart space of the here and now. And when we do that, which again comes from meditation, it comes from calling in all that beautiful energy consciously focusing on raising the vibration of compassion, love, and peace, which we do with our practical enlightment meditations. You can check them out over, um, in our Solluna app, also on our website, we just start to surrender more and more to this higher power to this unlimited energy to this is the energy of the true self spirit in us and around us. And we don’t have to understand everything necessarily.
Kimberly: 10:20 We don’t have to delve into every single minute detail, but we start to really connect back into the here and now versus living in the past and the traumas and the limiting frameworks that keep us in the past. So the more we’re able to connect meditate fully train ourselves. Yeah, not fully, but you don’t focus on training ourselves to keep coming back, keep coming back. Then all this stuff that happened to us in the past, injuries, pains, um, you know, harmful remarks, painful interactions with other humans, whatever it is, we start to, you know, be okay that it happened. We don’t have to necessarily pretend it didn’t happen, but we’re here. And we can start to realize more and more the fullness and the joy and the beautiful experience that’s available as valuable to us in the here and now. So check all that out. Tricia, sending you a big hug. We are strong. We are resilient. So whatever’s happened. I do believe, you know, we have a way to, to keep moving forward. We need tools. We need support. We need each other. So, you know, if you can build a support system around yourself with some of these tools, practices, books, therapists, whatever it is, and really commit to giving yourself that self care and love that you so deserve to really, um, embody this joy in life. That is our birthright each and every single one of us. So thank you so much. My love for being part of our community. Thank you for your question and sending you so much love.
Question #2 around the topic of: How to Find Meaning and Purpose in Your Life:How can I get past the feeling of not fitting in just because I’ve shifted my lifestyle towards eating more healthy? I feel like I don’t connect with my friends or family and feel lost and lonely because of it.
Kimberly: 11:20 All right. Our next question now comes from Meena, who lives in Germany and she writes, how could I get past the feeling of not fitting in? Just because I’ve shifted my lifestyle towards eating more healthy. I feel like I don’t connect with my friends or family and feel lost and lonely because of it. So back to what I was saying earlier, Meena, the true self, the spirit is inside of us. That’s what we connect to. And that is really where we feel comfortable in our own skin. When we connect to that, um, that is our true identity. So lifestyle doesn’t have to be a barrier because we start to, we’re so connected to ourselves that we see that we can be so connected to other people as well. It really opens this pathway of very deep connection. So that things like that seem like walls or seem like they’re weird. Like, oh, you’re eating a sausage and I’m eating lentils right now. We don’t make it such a big deal and we don’t take it so personally, if people make little comments or whatever, because when we don’t react, because we’re so comfortable with who we are, those comments tend to fall away naturally.
Kimberly: 13:09 So we just want to connect back to our intention and our why. And this lifestyle makes me feel really good. My digestion feels better. My energy feels better. We don’t push it on other people. We don’t have to create this divide of, oh, I eat this and you eat that right. There’s no looking down on anyone. There’s no better or worse. It’s a different approach. Everybody is where they are in life. And when we start to come forward with respect and we eat together and we’re not talking about the food, we’re talking about our, you know, um, dreams or, you know, what we want to share a funny joke or whatever we realize that true connection is to be had no matter lifestyle differences. I used to date vegans, you know, and I lived in New York and I was in this yoga studio and I was very into the lifestyle and no great people, but I didn’t connect on that deep heart level until I met my husband, John, who at the time that we met was a full carnivore.
Kimberly: 14:07 And it was at a time when I was, you know, meditating so deeply. And I found a way to really see his heart. And we connected very deeply and lifestyle had no bearing on, you know, pushing us apart or creating any sort of divide. Now we had to establish some healthy boundaries like here in our house, you know, we’re lucky enough to have a spare fridge down in that downstairs closet. Um, so he keeps the me out of the house, but we eat together and, you know, we, um, we share the vegetables and the salad and the, the food that we share together. And then he has his meat. If he’s gonna eat it, he goes in long stretches where he’s vegan as well, but I don’t push that on him either, but because of this mutual respect, because of this deep embodiment and knowing that we are all equal, we may have different perspectives, but ultimately we are all equal.
Kimberly: 15:00 So because of that, it is, um, it is not a problem. We are able to really connect. So I encourage you, me not to look at, you know, connecting first and foremost on that deeper level with yourself, and then seeing that light in other people. And then you realize that lifestyle never has to be an impediment at all. Um, it means that we are connected no matter what we choose to do in life, no matter what our decisions are, personal decisions, what we eat, how we live our life, we can still feel that, feel that light. We can still feel that connection with each and every one of us. And, you know, sometimes people are really blocked, um, that, that block to log doesn’t come through and maybe there’s some discomfort with themselves. So if they are cutting themselves off from you or they feel threatened or whatever it is with you, you know, again, we meet people where they are and we send them love.
Kimberly: 15:58 And, you know, we let it be known that we’re here for them when they want to open up, but maybe, you know, it’s okay to keep a distance from some friends to perhaps at certain junctures in time and then maybe more friends or more people pop in as the space opens up. All right, Meena, thank you so much. My love for your questions, sending you big love out there to Germany. And remember sister, you take care of yourself. You do what feels right to you. And that is, that’s how we move forward in life. We don’t have to change ourselves to combinate other people’s, you know, expectations you be you. And that is when you are your most beautiful and your most powerful.

Kimberly: 16:48 All right. My loves, we have two more questions for you on this topic of how to find meaning and purpose in your life. And the first question comes from Bianca who lives in Hawaii. And she writes, I V on governance of, I love Hawaii. I’ve been back and forth since we got a place there or creating a farm, a family farm. And it’s so beautiful, the community and working with all these amazing locals, and we’re going to be working with some real local plants. And we’re growing trees from pods and seeds. So wherever you are in Hawaii, especially sending you so much love now place, I feel deeply connected to deeply honored to work with the land there and the people there. Of course, she writes, I get depressed often and have good and bad days. I don’t want to take medication and I want to handle it more holistically.
Kimberly: 17:40 Do you think it’s possible to find direction in my life, even when dealing with mental issues? So Bianca, thank you so much. My love for this question. And I think that, of course we all experience ups and downs, but there is a time to call in medical intervention, especially if it’s chronic and it’s long-term, we will link in the show notes to some specific podcasts where we talk about depression that I encourage you to listen to because some doctors and real experts can, can give some clarity about when we, you know, some medication can be helpful and you know, when it may be unnecessary. So, you know, I encourage you to work with some professional help check out the podcasts. Now that being said, I am a big believer in holistic care with or without medication, no matter what. So let’s take this one from the four cornerstone approach.
Kimberly: 18:39 Food-wise we know that we really want to support our energy from what we’re putting in our bodies. Healthy fats are really important to feeling good in your brain, specifically omega three fats and even MCT oil. So what that means is eating lots of green vegetables cooked with coconut oil is a good way to combine everything. Um, avocados seeds, nuts, chia seeds is something I have almost on a daily basis in my power protein smoothie. You want to make sure that you’re getting those nice, healthy fats in your system. And at the same time, of course, we want to cut back on revise, refined sugars and things that unbalance our system. So good whole healthy foods. We’re also coming into winter right now. So lots of nourishing stews. There was a time where I was, you know, beauty, detox foods. I was cooking most things with vegetable broth.
Kimberly: 19:32 And now because of my frame, especially in the winter, I do tend to use more coconut oil and get some of that healthy fat in which feels stabilizing and grounding. And it’s really wonderful for your brain health as well. Body-wise our moods have a lot to do with the healthy gut microbiome. You live in beautiful Hawaii. You can find a local hike, get into a regular flow, listen to the birds, get a rain jaggedy would, if it’s raining, you know, we just get outside and feel that beautiful, vibrant energy flowing through you and around you. And I’m a big believer in nature’s healing powers. I think that’s very powerful as well. Emotionally, it’s so important to have time to process your feelings. Sometimes depression can be attributed to anger. That’s pushed down in your body and in your being. And what that does is it’s, you know, it starts to leak out. It starts to manifest out in sadness and depression, which is really like, you know, lethargy or sort of like that feeling like I can’t do anything about this.
Kimberly: 21:25 So I get depressed. I sort of contract in contrast when we start to feel what’s in there more and more can start to come through and the way to prompt feeling what’s in there, our journal prompts and joining amazing communities like our Solluna Circle, where we really do hold space for each other. And we talk about, um, challenges. We talk about things. We have a themes every month, so it can bring up other shadows that you may not be able to bring up on your own. So it’s all beautiful mirrors back to ourself, back to introspection, back to having time to for stillness and really, you know, sitting with your body, sitting with yourself and getting to the bottom of, you know, what am I really angry about? What is making me feel frustrated? What is making me feel small and just letting a little bit of a little bit like start to come out through you.
Kimberly: 22:20 And then the fourth cornerstone is spiritual growth, and here’s where we go beyond identifying with our personality and with our corks and with our job and with how we look and the surface as life as the full value of who we are. We start to tap into that beautiful, unlimited energy of the true self. And when we start to do that, then we start to put things back into perspective and certain things that, you know, maybe really got us, or maybe made us feel just sort of out of whack or sensitive. We start to realign, we start to make things less personal. We start to feel this joy welling up from inside of us. And so we become less and less dependent on the outside world. We don’t need this and that to make us happy to make us feel validated, to make us feel important because we’re really giving it to ourselves.
Kimberly: 23:15 We’re getting it from the inside and we’re nurturing ourselves from the inside. So when things happen, we have that ability to sit, breathe, reset, give ourselves space, um, Intuit, better self care, um, lean on supportive community, and then just have that ability to keep that perspective. So here are some of the tools Bianca, as I mentioned, I personally invite you into the Solluna Circle just to be in that beautiful supportive sisterhood. And again, as I mentioned at the top, you know, sometimes whether you’re trying these holistic methods or not, there may be, I don’t know the answer because I’m not working with you personally, but there may be times for medication. Um, even if it’s a program to limit it and to phase it out over time, there may be times to, um, you know, try different methods, but work with your healthcare provider. Um, and also make sure that if you do work with professional help, that you’re finding a therapist that you really vibe with and, um, that you share similar goals because some people may not share your goal of getting off medication forever or, you know, at some point even. And so doctors, therapists, whatever you want to make sure you find someone that you really vibe with. And now there’s lots of different resources for vetting people and getting recommendations and so on and so forth. So thank you so much. Kimberly: 24:26 All right. Now let’s get into our last question. Who comes from Katie, who lives in New York? And she writes, hi, Kimberly. I recently moved to New York city for grad school and I’m having trouble adjusting to the urban lifestyle. It has been difficult for me to disconnect and find peace while living in such a fast paced and seemingly ego-driven city. I know that you lived in New York city for a little while, so I’d love your advice and perspective on this lots of love.
Kimberly: 25:21 Hi, Katie. My love, I do have some perspective here. Um, I laugh because I was in New York, I think for about six years after backpacking. And then I moved here to LA and it was funny because you know, my family was back there and it was my grounding place after I backpacked. So I resisted moving to LA a little bit. I didn’t want to like it as much as I did, but I mean, if I’m honest, when I came here, I fell in love with the plants and the mountains and the outdoor lifestyle. And so I understand that New York city can really be challenging in that way. By the end of the time I was there, I found it. I found it challenging. I’ll say that, but here’s a couple things. Number one, Katie, remember that you are there for a limited amount of time.
Kimberly: 26:12 It’s finite. You’re there for grad school. You don’t have to live there forever. So just know that, keep that in your heart. When you start to feel like, oh, this is a struggle. Your mind starts telling yourself stories, just remind yourself. This is not forever. This is not forever. This is not forever. I’m going to do the best that I can with this time. Now, number two, because it is so ego driven because it’s so externally oriented because it is so noisy. You, my love have to definitely purposefully carve out some real space and time for yourself to find that stillness, to find that inner connection, to get real dialed into your meditation routine. And that is the only way I felt safe in New York. I had to put headphones on. Sometimes there’d be construction around honking core cars, but I did it in the back part of my apartment, which is where my bedroom was.
Kimberly: 27:05 I had this little corner set up and I had a Murphy bed, very limited space, but I found that with a very solid morning practice, including the GGS, including meditation, even back then, I felt really grounded and a lot more centered as I went out into my day. And I started moving about a very noisy, very crowded space. So morning routine meditation, um, ground yourself with really healthy foods, lots of fiber. You really want to feel grounded. You want to feel in your body because there’s so much external activity, getting healthy fats, um, healthy greens, uh, starch, you know, all the foods we talk about in beauty, detox, Luna really strengthen your body. Now body-wise food wise. Um, I mentioned, but body-wise for me. I spent a lot of time in parks and I would put headphones on, you know, out here. I like listening to the birds and the nature, but because there’s so much energy that’s moving around and there’s so many different kinds of people.
Kimberly: 28:07 I’m a big fan there. I would listen to mantras. I would listen to music like Krishna Das or no, whatever. And I would walk around these parks. And so I was getting this effect of the nature, moving my body, feeling vibrant because you can get cooped up in big cities, right? Cause the apartments and everything feels a bit boxed in and you’re in elevators and enclosed spaces and the skyline isn’t big. So to me, walking in as much nature as you can get, whatever, you know, natural parks are around you is going to be really healing because you still keep that nature connection inside of yourself, emotionally from mental health. I think it’s important to get out of the city when you can go to the Catskills, go to, um, what’s that place that I liked a lot. Uh, it’s where we shot most of, uh, beauty detox foods.
Kimberly: 28:59 Um, oh my gosh. I’m blanking on the name right now. Um, I’ll think of it in a moment. It’s right outside the city, um, you know, go to long island, go to Jersey, go wherever you can take day trips on the weekends when your schedule allows with school and studying because those little breaks of nature time are going to help fuel you and give you a little bit of your nervous system, a break from the city. So when I was in the city, I would get out as often as I could. I, the time was rock climbing. I go to rock climbing, gym, sometimes indoors. And then I go to the Shauna Gunks, which are new pellets outside of the city. We carpal, I had some friends that had cars, um, and we had ways I had ways to get out of the city. My parents at the time also lived in Connecticut.
Kimberly: 29:46 So I would take the train up there sometimes. So that was really important to me, was to get those breaks for my mental health. And then, uh, spiritually, like I mentioned, it’s so important to have your meditation practice dialed in. So you had that real inner connection before you are out in the world. At the end of the day, it’s good to hold a bed a little bit earlier too, because it’s such an awake city. Your bio rhythms can start to get disrupted if you’re up late. If you’re doing things at night, that shouldn’t be so late, like eating and so on. So you want to make sure that you’re calling it back it and calling it back in creating as regular a schedule as possible back to aryuveda the word dinacharya means daily routine. If you can start to regulate morning, practice, meditate, GGS going here, exercising, go to the park at night.
Kimberly: 30:35 Here’s my rhythm. I take a shower. I wash off the day when, you know, whatever it is for you. I meditate. I center that rhythm is going to really help keep you resilient in city life in any sort of urban environment that we are, which is, you know, a bigger challenge on our nervous system. It is a bigger challenge in our, um, in our whole, you know, on our system because there isn’t a naturalness to it, but just remind yourself, Katie, that it’s a finite amount of time. And if you feel called to a more natural environment that will open up for you later, but at this time you just have to do your best and you’ll get through it beautifully and just keep breathing and make sure that you will get an air filter practically speaking, make sure that you, you know, um, ventilate and use very natural indoor products.
Kimberly: 31:20 There’s plenty of air pollution out there, but you can control your inner space. Make sure again that you’re taking your SBO probiotics to really fortify your gut health and your overall immunity and health from the inside out and, you know, just do your best. My love. I’m sure it’ll be beautiful. There’s so many benefits to city life as well, and you know, access to different cultures and exposure and beautiful people and diversity. So that’s the, that’s the upside. So enjoy your time and focus on these grounding practices and it will be wonderful. Well, my love, I feel like we just scratched the surface of, oh, there’s very, very huge, um, huge conversation, um, about meaning and purpose and keeping ourselves grounded.

Kimberly: 32:19 So I want to read this quote again, um, that I read to you at the beginning of the show, our purpose is to connect. Oops. Yeah, here we go. Sorry. I swept away by accident. Our purpose is to connect to the true self spirit within us and all around us. So that’s primary. We connect to this formless energy. We find that connection, which is beyond all the limitations of what we do and what we look like, blah, blah, blah connect. And then we channel and allow our unique energy and expression into service in the world. So once we connect into this formless energy, we start to become more aware and awake and we can start to hone our talents and our skills and the way that we are part of this divine matrix, this beautiful unfolding fabric that we’re all part of. We’re all part of it, right? Oneness. We’re all part of the whole, how do we fit into that? Well, we each are unique, which means we all have a unique expression out into the world.
Kimberly: 33:12 So once we start to connect and we start to find this very specific ways to channel that expression out, and that’s when we become really powerful, I will say in my new book, which is pre-sales are starting in just a few weeks.
