This week’s topic is: How To Increase Your Longevity within The Four Cornerstones
I would add not just living a long life, but a long life full of health and vitality and joy and peace. We want to be here and live a fulfilling life. And so when we really honor our wholeness, when we take care of ourselves through these four cornerstones, which are food, body, emotional wellbeing and spiritual growth, we rise up in strength. We rise up in real resilience and we rise up in our ability to really care for ourselves, independent of relying on so much outside of ourselves, in the form of relationships and trying to find safety and security in just one job or a particular thing. We build this longevity, vitality, strength, and resilience from within.
This includes the choices that we make in our lifestyle, what we’re putting into our body, how we are conducting ourselves and our relationships. The relationships that we choose to lean into and how we take care of our mental health and our emotional wellbeing. All of this plays a vital role in our overall total energy, which is expressed in our daily life, it’s expressed in our life force or what the Sanskrit word is prana. I’m really excited to talk about this topic today, again, from this wider perspective of the cornerstones.

Kimberly: 02:57 We stay motivated, we stay inspired. So that’s why subscription to our feel good podcast is such a great idea. And my last little sharing here before we get into your questions, which come right from you guys. So I love this show so much. They’re right from our community is that our new book, baby, who I feel so passionate about comes right from my heart has been birthed into the world called You Are More More Than You Think You Are – Practical Enlightenment For Everyday Life, and you can pick up, pick it up. Now, wherever books are sold, which includes online places like Amazon and target and Barnes and noble and so on and so forth. And I think you’ll enjoy it very much because especially we are connected here in our podcast sphere. This is an opportunity to go deeper. It’s place through the written word, where I can share more detail and more prescriptive, practical ways to really improve your daily life and build the life that you want.
Kimberly: 04:00 And there’s a great emphasis in this book on wholeness, vitality, confidence, peace, and being a CR creator, a COC creator to your highest potential, which means not only creating the overall life that you want, creating the daily experience you want creating and manifesting the projects and your best ideas into form in the world. So I cannot wait for you to read it again. It’s called you are more than you think you are. And please share with me your, your thoughts or ideas or any questions as always. I encourage the feedback I encourage our back and forth conversation can write into the, to the show or catch me on some social media, which is at _KimberlySnyder. Okay. All that being said, let’s jump right into our topic, which is about increasing longevity from this holistic perspective, the four cornerstones. And I’ll just say now at the top of the show, we cannot get there.
Kimberly: 04:57 We cannot live a long, healthy, fulfilling, vital life, just in one of the cornerstones. So even though we may eat really well, or let’s say we take really good care of our body and we exercise a lot. It’s not enough. We are whole beings. So the ways in which our mind and our emotions plays such a large energetic role in the ways we feel every day, this includes also an influence on our hormones and our such as the cortisol levels and the levels of inflammation in our bodies and just the quality of our nervous system and our cardiovascular system. We need to recognize that we all only really live our best life when we take care of ourself on all levels. So this, this includes managing stress processing emotions, having strong support spiritually, which we define as deeper self connection sitting in stillness, meditation, nature, getting out of the noise of the world.
Kimberly: 06:01 So you can really listen to your heart and your own intuition and spirit inside of you. And yes, of course, the practical day to day of eating high quality nutritious, ideally largely, or all organic largely or all plant-based plant forward diet, which is really high in antioxidants and fiber and micronutrients as well as lower in toxicity because these foods are not as high up the food chain and yes, movement, exercise, healthy sleep. It all plays a role. So it’s not just one piece of the pie, but really building this beautiful, healthy pie or garden with all the elements coming in and really creating this deep, deep nourishment in your life.
Question #1 around the topic of: How To Increase Your Longevity within The Four Cornerstones: Besides the GGS can you share 2-3 top ingredients I should consume and how often?
Kimberly: 06:01 So let’s get into our first question, which comes from Tori, who lives in Nevada. So Tori sending you lots of love out there. My, my neighbor state, where it’s a little bit drier sending you so much love, and thank you for your question, which is besides the glow and green smoothie or the GGS as we affectionately call it here in our community.
Kimberly: 07:15 Can you share two to three top ingredients that I should consume and how often? So thank you so much. My love for your question. And yes, I wanna reinforce that it’s the small daily things that we do day in and day out that will create this vitality that we’re looking for. So, yes, it’s nice to do a cleanse once in a while, or do a yoga retreat or whatever, go to the spa one day, but it’s real lead the daily actions. So thank you for mentioning the Glowing Green Smoothie®. You guys can find the recipe over at mysolluna.com. If you are a newbie, some of you are very long term GS drinkers, right along with me for over the past decade. And this is really this wonderful, wonderful blended be of whole foods. So the fiber and the juices intact, and it’s packed with vitamins and fiber and fruit and vegetables, green vegetables in the base of water and there’s lemon, which is basically sun energy, and it’s just deeply, deeply nourishing.
Kimberly: 08:14 So that is a beautiful foundational practice that I teach. As part of our morning rhythm. You can rotate the green, you can rotate the fruit. You just wanna get it consistently in your body. Now, besides that, when there’s two to three top ingredients, I would say, you know, it’s, it’s, it’s hard to specify specific food story because I do believe in seasonality. I do believe in eating a wide variety of food. So we’re getting a different construction of nutrition, lots of different colors in our diet. So there’s so much nutrient density, but if I had to par it down, so to speak, one thing I would say is baby plants. And you can check out an Instagram video. I just did about it this week. Actually the baby plants, which I am talking about specifically sprouts, and microgreens have this tremendous energy that is inside of this pro this ful, because they are using that to create this radical growth into becoming a mature plant.
Kimberly: 09:22 And because of that, there are higher levels of enzymes and antioxidants, broccoli sprouts, for instance, have about 50 times more antioxidants than mature broccoli. So it’s really powerful to include these baby plants. As I like to call them in your daily diet. I personally ingest them daily. I put sprouts in my gluten free avocado and hummus wrap that I eat pretty much every morning I take microgreens and I just throw them on top of whatever I’m eating for dinner, whether it is, you know, quinoa and a kale salad are it’s kitchery stew soup, you know, even vegan pizza, whatever we’re having as a family, it finds it very easy to incorporate microgreens. They are beautiful looking. They’re very tender, they’re delicious, they’re fresh. And they give you so much vital vitality and vital nutrients. That it’s something that I recommend definitely as a top top food.
Kimberly: 10:24 Now, number two, I would say that fruit is a very important food to get into your diet in olives forms, including the fatty avocado, which is supplying us with five and fat and a whole farm coconuts, which I eat a lot of in Hawaii when I’m there and just all the electrolytes and the healthy fats and the range towards sweet fruits, such as mangoes, which are incredibly high in vitamin C and blueberries, and all sorts of berries, which are really high inflammation, quelling compounds, and nutrients, which are great for brain health and pretty much every system in your body. So I would say that all the ways in which we can incorporate fruit into our daily diet, it’s fantastic. If you have a sugar issue like Canda or there’s something going on, you know, you’re, you’re diabetic, there’s something going on. There’s some kind of preexisting condition.
Kimberly: 11:27 You can start with low sugar fruit, like the berries, particularly Asai, which is naturally sugar free. You can use green apples. Like I said, some of the fattier fruits like avocado, but over time as continue to balance your diet. And there’s some really great books out there that you can cure your diabetes by Dr. Oh my gosh. I want space on his name for a moment. Oh my gosh, he has the big center out in Arizona. Anyways, you can look it up. There’s some great books about really healing some of these conditions through fiber. And then you start to regulate when you’re having fruit and it’s complete nutritional package. Along with fiber, you’re able to ingest this very important natural food into your body again. And the yoga geese have also always taught that fruit is the highest vibration food. So as we work towards more vitality, which in a core sense means more light in your body.
Kimberly: 12:26 We wanna align to that light. We wanna align to that highest vibration and remove foods that drag us to down, take our energy, our difficult to digest. And so fruit becomes a very powerful support of food for our overall vitality and our overall light. And number three, I would say that plant proteins would be the third category because in the GGS I was, you know, this sprouts, we talk about greens, which, you know, are obviously incredibly important, but the reason I mention plant proteins is twofold. Number one, we all need protein in the body. And plant protein is very easy to get there’s many different sources and it’s easy to assimilate. And by consuming more plant protein, it means you consuming less animal protein, which in contrast will detract from your longevity and drag you down. Now don’t just take my word for it. I encourage you to listen to our prior podcast with Dan Buettner, who is the founder of the blue zones, which has identified the healthiest most long live long lived cultures in the world where people live over a hundred in, in higher ratios, across society, they have less, less, um, degenerative diseases.
Kimberly: 13:47 And in these cultures all across the world. So one’s in Costa Rica, one’s in Japan, one’s in, uh, Nicaragua, oh, sorry. Costa Rica. One is in California. And so on Italy, Greece, they’re 90% or higher plant based. Now we could go on and on about this protein discussion and we have other podcasts completely dedicated to this, but I will state here that animal protein is, is very digestive intensive from a holistic perspective. Our UIC medicine teaches that excessive meat is very regs, which means it’s very active. So that means if you eat too much of it, it creates restlessness anxiety, stress in the body. It’s, it’s a lot of acid. It’s very heavy. So it’s not really taking us where we wanna go. In terms of longevity, in terms of vitality, in terms of health, you could have some meat. Of course, our program, our community is not all or nothing, but again, the focus on putting in really nourishing deeply nourishing ingredients.
Kimberly: 14:54 I encourage you to go for more plant based proteins, including quinoa and beans and legumes and nuts and seeds, and even Tempe and organic, non GMO fermented, uh, soy, which is, is what Tempe is. So there’s this really wide range of wonderful foods that you can include. I personally been plant based now for well over 13 years and I feel great. I feel strong. I feel resilient and I knock on wood. I really don’t get sick. So I feel that, you know, it is know through my pregnancies and breastfeeding and you know, my, both my babies were nearly nine pounds each. So these are some of the top foods that I really recommend that you check out. There are 50 of my top foods, Tory, if you wanna check them out in my book, the beauty detox food. So you can go back and check that out as well.
Question #2 around the topic of: How To Increase Your Longevity within The Four Cornerstones: I’m in my 50’s and have a pretty good mindset around aging, however, I would love to increase my body’s ability to thrive for many years to come! Do you have some suggestions? Xo
Kimberly: 15:51 But they thank you so much for your question, my love. And thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And let me know how else I can support you. All right. Our next question here comes from Becca who lives in Florida, sending you a big virtual hug out there. My love to a state, I love very much you write. I am in my fifties and I have a pretty good mindset around eight aging. However, I would love to increase my body’s ability to thrive for many years to come. Do you have some suggestions? Yes, Becca. I do. So let’s take it to the four cornerstones. It’s important that we take this holistic approach. As I mentioned earlier, in order to really support our bodies through different shifts, to create that resiliency, to create that really, really long term vitality. So I’ll start in a different order with the cornerstones emotional wellbeing slash mental health slash stress management.
Kimberly: 16:49 This is really important that we’re doing on a regular, this one of the NEMA, which is in the eightfold path of yoga. The first step, one of it is, um, self study or introspection. And so for me, included in this category is starting to understand some of our emotional patterns starting to see what we can let go of how we can, can just process things. So we’re not holding on that low grade stress and inflammation does break down our bodies. As I mentioned, there’s a profound connection with everything from neurotransmitters to hormones, to our digestive function and our cardiovascular function and our endocrine stem. So on a daily basis, steps that we can take to really nurture this. The steps that I take are daily meditation and daily journaling and reflecting. And I do really need still this time just to sort of sit otherwise.
Kimberly: 17:53 I feel like the stress just builds and builds and I’m running from one thing to the next, and it really does break down the body. So really making sure that there is that time community is really important. Becca, I encourage you to join our Solluna Circle, which is a really wonderful nourishing community program that you might really enjoy. And then the next cornerstone is met is spiritual growth. And this is where we get really centered in ourself. And this is related to aging and longevity because if we don’t have that in inner anchor, call it the soul, the true cell spirit inside of us, our intuition, whatever you wanna say, this formless part of us that is the eternal anchor. That is where the safety and security comes from. If we don’t have that, if that is lacking in our life, then we try to get that safety and security in the external world, which is always shifting and uncertain and changing.
Kimberly: 18:50 And so what happens is more and more fear builds up because we don’t have that deep rootedness. And this fear is incredibly aging. This fear is what jacks, our nervous system creates. Dysbiosis creates imbalance between our sympathetic and our parasympathetic nervous system. It’s just this very jagged and energy that our body is constantly trying to quell constantly trying to soothe. So simple daily practices like our practical enlightenment meditations, the guided meditations that you can check out on our app seven minutes. You know, it’s not much to get started, but just this real practice of sitting with yourself means you start to find the real Ary within yourself. And this is so powerful when it comes to longevity and health and aging and all of it. So food wise, I think in Tori’s question, there was a lot of detail that I encourage you to also check out those foods that I mentioned is some of the top foods.
Kimberly: 19:48 And BodyWise, I think it’s really important. We take a look at how we move our body on a daily basis. Some of the ways that we used to exercise may feel a bit rigid or pounding to the body in different stages of life. For me, I used to run and I did marathons and I was the captain of the track team. And I ran cross country. And I personally do not feel very drawn to running and pushing myself that way. It’s personal. Some people love running of course, but it just feels very jarring to me. So it feels more sustainable in my joints, in my bones, in my body to walk. And I just do a lot of walking. I walk around the neighborhood, I walk in the mountains, I walk with my kids. It’s I push Moses in the stroller. EE is biking, just a lot of natural movement that isn’t jarring is something that we may wanna take a look at.
Kimberly: 20:42 You know, of course there’s some recommendations about high intensity workouts, and that can be great to, to throw into the mix and weightlifting and all of that. It’s important that we lift listen to our intuition though. And if something feels overly jarring or stressful in the body, it’s creating extra oxidative stress, which creates free radicals, which again, creates more aging. Then we wanna really listen to our bodies and adjust exercise routines. And finally, I will say that it’s so important to thriving long term, that we really have wonderful sleep hygiene. And so check out my other podcasts and articles over at mysolluna.com on a really wonderful thorough evening practice, where we touch all of the corner stones that prepares the body for good sleep. And I also recommend listening to my pod, my last podcast with Dr. Michael Breus, where he talks about the emphasis on waking up at the same time every morning, which allows us to get into a better rhythm so that we sleep better at night. So again, thank you so much, Becca for your question. Thank you so much for being part of our com immunity, my love and sending you so much love down there to Florida.
Break
Kimberly: 22:07 All right. We’re gonna take a short break. And when we come back, we’ll have two more questions for you on this topic of increasing your longevity with the four cornerstones.
Question #3 around the topic of: How To Increase Your Longevity within The Four Cornerstones: Do you have a specific meditation you like to use that will help ease the mind or do you think they are all pretty universal in calming emotions?
Kimberly: 22:07 All right. My loves, we are back. I am excited to hear your question. The first one up is from Randi, who lives in Hawaii, Randi, where are you? Which island sending you so much love? I split my time now between California and Hawaii. I love the balance between the tropical and the, the dryer, but the beautiful mountains here. So sending you lots of love out there, feel very, very connected to the land you ask. Do you have a specific meditation that you like to use that will help ease the mind, or do you think they’re all pretty universal and calming emotions? So I believe that at any given time, we may be drawn to a little bit of a different mantra or a bit of a different meditation. And I do adjust my meditations day to day. I’ve, you know, my basic practice, but I have in our practical enlightenment meditations, there’s first of all, a little bit of physical movement to set all the body there’s breathwork and then there’s the, I am seed intention.
Kimberly: 23:13 So I will adjust that based on what I feel I’m calling in support for that in that day. And so what I really recommend here, Randy, is checking out our Solluna app, which is absolutely free. And within the app, you will see a tab for practical enlightenment meditations, and there’s a whole library in there from C uh, grounding meditations to, you know, abundance, uh, spring energy, um, expanding energy, all different forms. And when you’re talking about calming, you know, the grounding meditation might be really great for you. So go in there and just see what you’re drawn to. And sometimes what I like to do is I do a specific meditation like that for a length of time. So you really wanna work on calming and grounded <affirmative>. So I recommend doing it for at least 40 days, which is considered a cycle of change in different cultures around the world, including Aveda.
Kimberly: 24:15 We can look back to the roots of Christianity as well. The 40 days in the desert, this, this number 40 seems to pop up in many, many different cultures. And then there’s the 40 days postpartum that is recommend recommended in Aveda. So you can work on something like that. Or you can just go with the flow and see what you’re drawn to. There really isn’t a right or wrong, but what is the most important is being consistent? So it is a, I believe the most powerful practice that we can engage in as human beings is sitting in meditation and connecting to source connecting to the true self, connecting to this formless eternal part of us, because what happens is we take this calm centered, beautiful mean there’s no words for it, right? This just expansive energy. We start to take it more and more into the day to day fluctuations and doing this and activities, but there’s a different energy.
Kimberly: 25:17 There’s a, there’s more calmness, we’re less reactive. We feel more centered. We feel more anchored from within. So what’s most important is really just the consistency of meditation. As I mentioned, those, the meditations I offer, you can sit in them longer, but just starting with five to seven minutes, at least as part of your morning practice before you get going with your day and then ideally creating some space in the evening, either before dinner or before bed, whenever you can really fit in some still time to also meditate and anchor your day and let go of the day and come back to that eternal peace inside of you. It is so powerful. And this deep, deep peace I believe is central to true vitality, a true longevity, true joy and peace who has seen the smiling face of the Dai Lama and the statues of the laughing Buddha.
Kimberly: 26:18 And if you look at these pictures of the saints and the sages and the yogis, the great yogis, and you look into their eyes, there is this calm, all encompassing, unconditional love this equanimity. And this equanimity means that we are less tethered to the ups and downs of life. Life. We are less tethered to the stressors of life. We are less reactive. We are more responsive. We are more in flow. Our bodies are healthier. Our bodies will not age and break down in the same way. So it is very powerful. The daily meditations for whichever form you choose, just please be consistent and please do choose a consistent meditation spot, which will support the energy of dropping in because energy does build more and more over time. So thank you so much, Randi, and sending you lots of love out there to Hawaii.
Question #4 around the topic of: How To Increase Your Longevity within The Four Cornerstones: I have a family member who is battling Alzheimer’s and of course it has me concerned if I’m doing everything I can now to strengthen my own brain and the longevity of my life. Do you think having a spiritual practice could help and how?
Kimberly: 26:18 All right, we’ve come upon our last question here for today, which comes from Leanne, who lives in Arkansas. So hello, my Midwestern beauty, sending you a big virtual hug. I am so grateful. We are connected.
Kimberly: 27:26 The beauty of technology is that our love, our connection, our support for one another need not be confined to immediate physical space. So I send you all my love. And thank you for your question, which is I have a family member who is Alzheimer’s and of course it has me concerned. If I’m doing everything I can do now to strengthen my own brain and the longevity of my life, do you think having a spiritual practice can help and how so absolutely lean again, it is the stressors that we wanna reduce for not just birth brain health, but overall organ tissue health and our energetic vitality. I just wanna mention quickly that living a as clean and a toxin-free lifestyle with what we are putting into our body is really important as well when it comes to neurological health. So getting a really good filter for your drinking water.
Kimberly: 28:24 And I will also mention that I recently had our water tested in our home and it was shocking tap water. There was tons of arsenic and chlorine, and this gets into the body when we take a warm shower and our pores open up. So anyways, that you can filter your water is a great idea. Also eating organic food because there have in some correlations, some research around fungicides and herbicides and pesticides related to neurological, um, degradation. So keep that in mind. It’s really important that we’re living as clean as possible. We’re swapping out things like deodorant and skincare products for really clean versions. You can check out our Solluna high performance skincare, which I personally use every day. Of course, my personal favorite is the vitamin C serum, which is brightening and just so nourishing to the skin, which is our largest organ. So I wanna mention that, and yes, there is tremendous research.
Kimberly: 29:25 I recommend all the books by Dr. Neil Bernard in this regard, which you can also listen to our podcast by him. He is the, uh, co-chair of the physician’s committee for responsible medicine. He is plant based and he talks about again, and it’s just Dan Butner. And so many researchers now are finding that the level of persistent compounds, D D T all these things as crap, these chemicals that have been introduced from man into the environment, they persist and they bio cual as we go up in the food chain. So a powerful way to really protect your brain health and the longevity of your life is to be as plant based as possible. And to live this clean lifestyle. Now, the inner calling the inner connection, as I mentioned, is a way to reduce the stress, the fear, the ups, and down the surges, the inflammation, which also just is this systemic breakdown in the body.
Kimberly: 30:27 It creates more acidity in our blood. There is a different composition to our whole biochemical structure. The more reactive we become, which means angry, resentful, um, you know, to jealous all of these really strong emotions. We wanna start to hoof, just relax and realize that I just, I don’t have to take things so seriously. And that is a great challenge in this world where we’re pulled in different directions. And there’s lots of alerts on our phone and there’s media and there’s social media, and there’s just so much going on in our day to day life.
Kimberly: 31:08 So what I recommend is, as I mentioned to Randyi just the consistency of daily meditation, check out our free practical enlightenment meditations, get into that flow. And also another important way to increase the longevity is our third cornerstone, which is emotional wellbeing. So as I mentioned before, Becca, the practices to feel emotionally and mentally healthy.
