Healthy Digestible Cheezy Sauce
Do you remember growing up on dishes like mac ‘n cheese, cheesy broccoli, and sour cream dolloped atop potatoes?! It’s possible to create similar tastes and textures from traditional recipes modified to be Beauty Detox friendly. This dish will bring back all the comforts from your original recipe—all with less fat, no dairy, and the bonus of easy digestion.
When it comes to making this dish vegan, you may think that cashews would be the product of choice. I’ve seen the choice of using nuts in many recipes, and while it’s certainly a better choice than dairy, it’s actually a no-no in this particular recipe when it comes to proper food combining within the Beauty Detox Solution principles! That is because cashews are a protein and potatoes are a starch (check out BDSolution for more info if you have idea what I am talking about and want to learn how to optimize your digestion).
So how do we recreate that nostalgic feeling, let alone create a velvety rich texture of eating this dish, so that it’s super satisfying? I am so excited for you to enjoy this creation that is totally nut-free and made from a blend of carrots, more potatoes and a special ingredient, which is…
Nutritional yeast! It is what helps give this sauce it’s cheesy flavor and texture, reminiscent of the real thing. Take a look at this list of amazingness!:
- A full spectrum of B vitamins
- Chromium, which can aid with weight loss
- Protein rich- with sixteen different amino acids, excellent for muscle-building and repair

If you’ve never heard of nutritional yeast or haven’t purchased it, no worries. You can find nutritional yeast in most health food stores. Just be sure to place them in a cool dry place or the refrigerator or freezer, and it will last for months.
When you choose this clean cheezy version you will be receiving beta-carotene, and vitamin A from the carrots (giving you well-moisturized and shiny hair and promoting a healthy scalp), as well as a rich sources of B vitamins, vitamin C, and vitamin K (providing healthy, energy-giving complex carbohydrates, and a good amount of certain essential minerals), among all the benefits mentioned above.

The whole point in recreating this recipe is to not feel deprived of comfort foods, not to worry about calorie-counting, and most importantly, to support amazing digestion, which is key to prevent bloating and waste build-up and actually benefit from them.
Loading our bodies with:
- Broccoli: antioxidants—vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients—that supports all steps in the body’s detox process, including activation, neutralization, and elimination of unwanted contaminants.
- Cauliflower: vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and many other phytochemicals—helping your body’s ability to detoxify in multiple ways, containing antioxidants that support detoxification, (along with the glucosinolates that help to activate detoxification enzymes), helps in boosting heart and brain health, and is anti-inflammatory.
- Carrots: that will boost your immune system, improve digestion, detoxify the body, and boosts oral health.
Adding these veggies on top of one of the most important food staples, and, the number one vegetable crop in the world- yes, the potato- will bring back those nostalgic feelings within seconds.
It’s a good thing too, that potatoes are available year-round, since they are loved by so many as a hearty source of fuel and also for their versatility in being, mashed, broiled, or baked.
Packed with nutrition, potatoes are among the most popular of all the root vegetables. Low in fat and high in health, potatoes are a rich source of B vitamins, vitamin C, and vitamin K.
This root is also an excellent source of healthy, energy-giving complex carbohydrates, and contain good amounts of certain essential minerals like—iron, manganese, magnesium, phosphorous, copper and potassium.
When purchasing potatoes, try to include them on your organic shopping list. If you need a little guidance you can find EWG’s Dirty Dozen list, HERE, (potatoes are #12).
