This week’s topic is: Energizing Practices to Reduce Blocks
Blocks are something that can occur in many different areas of our lives. We know that we can have blockages in our bodies, in our GI tracks and our digestion. We can feel blocked mentally and emotionally. There is also feeling blocked spiritually from being able to connect with ourselves where our energy can feel blocked.
As we go into fall and there’s this shift in energy, and it’s starting to get windier and colder, it’s very important that we focus on removing blocks because we want our energy to flow and we want to feel in flow.
The more cleansed we are and the less stagnation there is in our lives, our energy, and in our bodies, the stronger we are and the higher our immunity is, and the more we can tune into our purpose and our creativity.

Inspirational Thought of the Week
“Your uniqueness makes it totally unnecessary to compare yourself with anyone else. For too many people beauty involves feeling inferior by comparison. This always creates a gap, a duality between what is now and what is ideal. When it comes to radical beauty, there is absolutely no space for comparison or competition. Each of us is here to express our highest beauty, which no one else’s beauty can diminish.” – Radical Beauty

Kimberly: 00:01 Hi, Beauties and welcome back to our Thursday Q&A Community Show where our topic today is Energizing Practices to Reduce Blocks. And blocks are something that can occur in many different areas of our lives. We know that we can have blockages in our bodies, in our GI tracks, in our digestion. We can feel blocked mentally, emotionally. We can feel blocked spiritually from being able to connect with ourselves. Our energy can feel blocked.
Kimberly: 00:33 So as we go into fall and there’s this shift in energy, and it’s starting to get windier and colder, it’s very important that we focus on removing blocks because we want our energy to flow and we want to feel in flow. And the more cleansed we are and the less stagnation there is in our lives, in our energy, in our bodies, the stronger we are and the higher our immunity is, and the more we can tune into our purpose and our creativity. And we just feel so much lighter and so much more, again, as our title is energized. So we get weighed down with blocks. So it’s something that we definitely want to address today.

Kimberly: 01:53 All right, so I’m going to be reading the questions again, as I have the last few weeks, because Katelyn has been swamped. So I am excited to hear what you guys have been wondering about blocks, how to really boost your energy. And remember, if you have any questions to submit them over at mysolluna.com. And what we usually do, or what Katelyn and Nicole and the team do is they clump them into groups based on topic. So a lot of times you guys have similar questions around a certain theme, and then we put them together. And a lot of us are wondering the same things. So anyways, keep the questions coming. I love to hear from you.
Question 1: Even though I live where it’s warm for most of the year, I still get the feeling of being stagnant or less motivated as we near the end of the year. How can I reduce or get rid of this feeling?
Kimberly: 02:36 First question today comes from Eva in Dallas, Texas. And she writes, “Even though I live where it’s warm for most of the year, I still get the feeling of being stagnant or less motivated as we near the end of the year. How can I reduce or get rid of this feeling?”
Kimberly: 02:51 Eva, thank you so much for your question. I have been to lovely Dallas, myself. It’s a city that I do love very much. I think that Texas is such an interesting state. There’s a lot of diversity and I actually like the humid weather. So I’m with you. I get it. It’s warm for most of the year. I think that as we get towards the end of the year, though, there may be some emotional reasons for feeling like you’re dragging your feet a little bit as we near the end. There’s the holidays going up. There’s just like a whirlwind of activities. We start to feel like, “Oh, we want to be cozy and sort of sit back and have some of these more comforting foods and drinks.”
Kimberly: 03:39 So what we want to do is we want to establish a flow so that we feel really good starting in the morning and we carry that into our day. And if we find that we’re starting to feel less motivation, I definitely recommend going for a walk in the morning or doing some sort of workout in the morning so that you are able to really refresh your energy. And the longer we wait in the day, the more chance there is for you to put off working out or going for a walk or eating well, if you didn’t start the day eating well. So it’s almost like an energetic blueprint that you create at the beginning in the morning. We really focus on the morning practice. If we’re starting to wane in our motivation, we really want to get up in the morning and after we brush our teeth, we are drinking hot water with lemon and GGS and we’re journaling and we’re meditating. And it’s really important to touch all different parts, all different cornerstones in the morning routine.
Kimberly: 04:48 So our cornerstones, again, are food, body, emotional wellbeing and spiritual growth. And I find, Eva with your question, when we’re working on stagnation and we’re working on removing blocks in a more general way, we want to look at what can we do in each of these areas? So food wise, I think it’s really important that we supply ourselves with nourishing foods that are promoting more flow. So again, the hot water with lemon and the GGS that I mentioned, all times of the year and especially this time of the year, because these are grounding practices. And the smoothie, which doesn’t have to be ice cold, you can take it out and warm it up to room temperature as I do, is full of fiber. So it’s going to help you feel fuller in your body and it’s also going to help flush out toxins.
Kimberly: 05:41 Body-wise, I mentioned walking already a couple of times. I think one of the best things to do is walk. You may not feel the motivation of doing a full, crazy workout. I actually never feel that motivation. I always like to walk personally myself. It just feels natural. I listen to music, I take the baby. When he falls asleep, I’ll listen to something or I’ll just listen to the birds. And it just doesn’t feel as jarring to me as running or doing a workout. But that’s my personal preference. If something feels good to you, like doing a yoga session or doing some kind of dance workout, whatever it is, I would definitely take care of that in the morning, again, while your motivation is higher.
Kimberly: 06:23 Emotionally, sometimes we feel stagnant when we feel frustrated and it makes us shut down. If we’re not really expressing our feelings, we can just sort of say, “Well, I’m not going to do anything at all,” in a sense. And then we sit back and we don’t get as much processed. So that’s why the journaling part, even five, 10 minutes in the morning or the evening or throughout the day, Eva is something that’s really wonderful just to check in with yourself and to explore any feelings, to create more awareness around anything that might be going on for you. And yeah, we just need to take care of our mental health and our stress and our emotional wellbeing.
Kimberly: 07:05 And then spiritually, the meditation aspect of our morning routine is something that we should ideally never skip. It’s the part where we connect in to our true self, which can actually never get really stagnant and never get dusty and feel rusty and tight. But the true self inside of us is pure consciousness. It’s pure love. It’s pure potentiality. And so when we tune into that in our meditations, it helps to pull us out of ruts. And it pulls us out of periods where we feel a little bit slothful or lazy or stagnant. So make sure as well, Eva, that you’re keeping up with your meditations. If you’re brand new to meditation, we have some guided ones that you can check out over at mysolluna.com as well.
Question 2: I’ve been trying to work on writing a book, but I keep making excuses as to why it’s not progressing as quickly as I’d like. You’ve written several books, Kimberly, how do you move around roadblocks?
Kimberly: 07:55 All right, next question comes from Lydia and she’s from Bedford, New York. She writes, “I’ve been trying to work on writing a book, but I keep making excuses as to why it’s not progressing as quickly as I’d like. You’ve written several books, Kimberly, how do you move around roadblocks?”
Kimberly: 08:12 So, Lydia, thank you so much for your question. I think that this is a great question that can be applied to different projects, writing a book, or finishing a proposal, or creating a new online business, or just simply taking on a home project. It could be a renovation. It could be doing something like some kind of girl scouts, like a larger project with your child or whatever, right? So this is an area where a lot of people can feel stagnant because it seems like such a big project sometimes that we kind of avoid it because it feels a little bit intimidating and just involved. So sometimes there’s that block about wanting to even get in and get started or to keep focusing on it.
Kimberly: 09:12 So I’ll tell you what I do, Lydia, and I am currently working on my sixth book. So I have been through this process many times. And for me, I really have a whole ritual I get into before I sit down and write, which involves definitely meditation and asking for guidance so that I can write my highest and my best work. I stretch a little bit so I feel more open in my body. Sometimes if we feel stuck or stagnant, our shoulders are up near our ears or we just feel tight. Then that translates mentally and emotionally often. So it’s hard to produce our best writing or our best thinking towards a creative solution if we feel tight.
Kimberly: 10:01 So I do a little bit of stretching and then I usually have a hot drink next to me, a hot herbal tea, or sometimes my green tea when I’ve been up more with the baby and I definitely need a little bit more caffeine. So I will say that I prepare so that when I sit down, I really feel that intention of I’m going to have a great writing day or, whatever your project is, I’m going to go full force here. And I really do carve it out and I create that space so it doesn’t feel haphazard when I go to sit. It really does feel clear and intentional and focused.
Kimberly: 10:34 The other thing is there is a natural rhythm to writing and creativity. So there are some days where I have blocked off this time to write and I’ve shifted my life around it, but it just isn’t coming. And there’s some times where you just can’t force it. So then I do get up and I work on something else and I don’t try to push through it because I have done that in the past and I end up rewriting that material anyway. So, it’s just a waste of energy. So for me, when it comes to projects like this, I also encourage you to get into a flow that feels good for you. Some people like to have their morning open for different things, and then they write better in the afternoon or in the evening.
Kimberly: 11:20 For me, on my writing days, it’s really important that I start really early in the morning because I just know those are the hours that I have the utmost focus and I feel like I’m channeling to the highest degree. So it’s like getting to know your process. What times work better for you, what rituals work good for you when you start to write or focus on your project. And that way, as you get into these practices right before whatever you are going to do, your body remembers. And that makes it feel like you’re stepping into a river of flow and that helps to avoid the blocks because you’ve created this beautiful environment so that your mind can relax and open up to its full potential and its full creativity.
Kimberly: 12:08 So try some of those for yourself, Lydia. Create a little ritual and prepare yourself, find the times that work and don’t push it if it’s not coming because the creative process has a certain timing to it. And so don’t feel bad if it’s just… No, it’s one thing if it doesn’t come a day here or there, but if you’re putting off the whole project, then it’s time to just go into it. And remember that, even though it may seem daunting to write a 300 page book or whatever, take it one day at a time and focus on, “Hey, I’d like to focus on writing my best 3000 words today,” or, “This week, my focus is one chapter.” If you break it down into more doable goals, it also becomes a lot easier for your mind to wrap itself around going forth with this, and then being able to achieve it.
Break
Kimberly: 13:00 All right, Beauties, I’m loving these questions so far. This is awesome. We have two more questions for you. I’m just going to take a short break now and I’ll be right back after the break.
Question 3: Do you know of any simple, easy exercises for the brain besides meditation? I feel like it’s cluttered with mindless junk and would like to start incorporating healthy practices that will help energize me rather than slow me down.
Kimberly: 13:13 All right, Beauties, we’re back from the break and we have two more questions for you guys on this wonderful, wonderful subject, which is energizing practices to reduce blocks. The next question comes from Riley, who’s from Little Falls, Minnesota. And she writes, “Do you know of any simple, easy exercises for the brain besides meditation? I feel like it’s cluttered with mindless junk and would like to start incorporating healthy practices that will help energize me rather than slow me down.”
Kimberly: 13:45 So I think that this is a great question, Riley. When our brains are cluttered, we become a lot more reactive and it’s really hard to concentrate and focus. So I think that one of the thing… You mentioned meditation, but something that’s really great to focus on because it gives you something to do is breath work. So sometimes when we do meditation, we often do some sort of pranayama breathing techniques as the lead-in, but the main focus is meditation. But what you can do is you can start to learn certain practices like nadi shodhana breathing for instance, which is a really great alternate nostril breathing practice. I do it in our Beauty Detox Power Downloadable Yoga Series. If you want to check that out, Riley, it’s a great beginner and intermediate series, but there’s a pranayama section where I take you through some of this breath work.
Kimberly: 14:47 So that’s a really great way to settle the mind. When you focus on the breath, your breath automatically slows down. And what happens is it naturally starts to expand the gaps between taking an inhale and taking an exhale. And in those gaps is a space of deep settling into your body. And those gaps are what the yogis teach, is a really, really profound moment where you, again, just start to settle down into your being and your nervous system starts to settle down. And you start to connect more with divine intelligence, with your true self, with God, with the universe, whatever words you want to use. So I would definitely try that, Riley, and see how some of those breathing practices work for your brain and for getting you settled down.
Kimberly: 15:47 The other thing that I think is really great for adults is crafts. And sometimes, even when I do the coloring books with Bobby and I was doing one just before this podcast, or mom… my friend group here, some of them are not moms, so I would say my local group of friends that gets together semi-regularly, more regularly before COVID. But we used to do crafts. We used to make wreaths and candles and things like that. So sometimes focusing on a project where it’s step-by-step… I also find this in putting together Lego kits for Bubby. When you’re focusing on what’s in front of you, it can help teach your mind focus. Especially if it’s a new hobby, or if you’re really working on the craft with your full attention, it can help you be in this moment.
Kimberly: 16:41 But whether it’s breath work, meditation or crafts, you really want to work on, Riley, being here now, because our minds get more and more cluttered when we’re just thinking about everything that happened before. We’re thinking about everything that might happen in the future. We’re thinking about all the things that we have to do, again, which is not present right now with where you are in this moment. So the more and more you can be here and you can start to drop all the externals about what’s going on around and how you can focus and go deeper here, your mind will start to feel decluttered. Your mind will start to feel these blocks and all the noise in there will start to dissipate.
Kimberly: 17:28 So try some of these for yourself. I’d love to see what you’re drawn to, Riley. The last thing besides crafts is games. I’ve been doing quite a bit of Scrabble lately with hubby, which is actually a pretty good brain game. Hubby’s really good at Scrabble. I think he played a lot when he was in law school, which is another topic, but it’s quite ironic that he even went to law school. He’s a non-practicing attorney, but it’s funny to imagine him as a lawyer at all. But yeah, I think that anything like that, that’s a good brain game or board game or craft is also good besides the breath work. All right, Riley, I wish you lots of love. I send you a big hug. I hope the next time we connect that intensely busy, brilliant mind of yours has been harnessed a little bit, at least.
Question 4: I feel like my energy is slowing down and I’m not sure how to differentiate if it has to do with my mindset or physical food. I practice healthy eating and meditation, so not sure where it’s stemming from. Any suggestions on how to feel the difference or how to tell the difference?
Kimberly: 18:26 All right. So our next question here comes from Ms. Cora, and she is from Reno, Nevada. And she writes, “I feel like my energy is slowing down and I’m not sure how to differentiate if it has to do with my mindset or physical food. I practice healthy eating and meditation, so not sure where it’s stemming from. Any suggestions on how to feel the difference or how to tell the difference?”
Kimberly: 18:54 All right, Cora. Well, this is a really great question. And I think sometimes when we feel a block, when we feel like we’re in a rut, we may not exactly be sure where it’s coming from. And so we do have to tune into ourselves, into our feelings, into our body so that we are able to discern how we best can shift and adjust so we continue to take the best care of ourselves. So let’s take this question actually through the four cornerstones.
Kimberly: 19:27 So food wise, you say you practice healthy eating. I would also bring into this conversation that right now, there is a big shift in the collective environment in nature. And when we shift into different seasons, we still want to shift what we’re eating to support our energy, because we’re a part of the energy of the whole, right? So we’re going through the same energy shift that the trees are going through and the sand and the rocks and everything around us. So that means healthy eating for the year means we shift, we shift in fall, we shift in winter and so on.
Kimberly: 20:07 So in the fall we want to shift our diet so that we feel grounded with all the wind being picked up and the air moving around. That is some of the characteristics of fall. So it’s really great idea to have more one-pot meals, soups, and stews, or just simple lean-cooked lentils on your salad, maybe some brown rice. These are the sort of simple bowls that I make a lot. I have a lot more beans and lentils and grounding foods in the fall than I do in the summer. So in the summer, I’m very high percentage fruit, a lot of raw food. Now is the time where I start to get more and more back into my hot elixirs and my hot drinks and just adjust and less cold and raw and more warm and comforting and stew-like in nourishing. And again, there’s a whole, let’s say pot of healthy food options out there, but if you want to fine tune for your energy, we want to also choose the best ones per season. So that’s one thing I would look at, Cora.
Kimberly: 21:21 Body-wise, we also want to adjust our practices for the season. I don’t see anything in your question mentioning any sort of movement, but it’s really important that you see what’s going on with your body. Our bodies are meant to move. Our bodies want to flow. And if you’ve gotten into a little bit of a rut lately, maybe you’ve gotten busy with work, maybe you’re at your desk a lot, or maybe you just have too many Zoom meetings. Sometimes I feel like I do. So walking is just a really great way to get going again. I would also recommend, Cora, tune into your body. You can sit and ask yourself, “How do you want to exercise body? How do you want to move? What feels good to you?”
Kimberly: 22:04 So sometimes I think that we use our heads so much. We try to think through and evaluate what’s going on here. But if we ask and we put our hands on our heart and we wait for a feeling to come up or an answer from our bodies, sometimes we can find something really, really profound. We can connect with our body in a really deep way. And so I encourage you to do that and just feel into your body, Cora, and see if there’s anything that your body would like.
Kimberly: 22:34 Maybe your body wants some nice warm baths. Maybe your body wants to do a vigorous workout. It’s feeling stagnant because it wants to run and jump and move. Maybe it wants to slow down and just do a gentle walk or some gentle Yin Yoga. So tune in and allow for that space to listen to your body. I think that’s something that we all should do. And it’s something that I do myself. I started doing this a couple of years ago, and it’s amazing the messages that our body will tell us. But often we don’t even ask. We just assume or, again, we try to think it through.
Kimberly: 23:07 So our next cornerstone is emotional wellbeing and here’s where a lot of energy can be slowed down. Sometimes we think that we just use up energy in our workouts, in our digestion as I’ve been talking about for years, but actually our minds, our brains can burn something like 20% of our overall energy in this small, tiny organ in our body. And so if we’re nervous, worried, running through a lot of different what-if scenarios in the future, if there’s a lot of fear and confusion in our lives, these exhaust us, these deplete our energy.
Kimberly: 23:42 So mental health wise and emotionally, Cora, I would like you to do a inventory of your life right now and just see, is there any areas of anything that it feels stressful, it feels unprocessed. It feels like you need to pay some attention to it. And dive into it and go into your journal, see what feels like it needs some attention. Or if you need to talk to someone, you may want to seek out a very supportive friend, or maybe even a therapist or a healer or someone just to bounce off of. It’s important that we feel grounded and we find our security inside of ourselves right now with everything going on. And again, I would just say that is a potential huge way that we burn energy. So look into that one too, Cora, on your emotional state.
Kimberly: 24:40 Now, fourthly is your spiritual growth. All of these work together synergistically. And you did mention that you’re meditating. But again, if there’s something going on emotionally, or there’s something going on in your body, it becomes harder to drop in as deeply into meditation, because you may be distracted or there may be a thought pattern that’s keeping you off or your body’s distracting you. So in all these ways, I just encourage you to keep on meditating. Maybe do it a little bit longer, maybe prepare yourself, clear your mind, journal before, so you go into it and you get the most benefit from your meditations. Ideally your meditations will give you more energy. So it’s important that you are in a clear space as much as possible. You do a little bit of breathing before.
Kimberly: 25:36 Again, we have free guided meditations for you over at mysolluna.com if you’d like to tune in and learn about how to meditate. It’s my favorite thing to talk about pretty much. So head over there and you can learn. But ideally we get energy from our meditations. I feel energized from them. So it could be in any of these cornerstones, Cora, that you’re feeling a block, a depletion of your energy. So I do encourage you to look at all of the cornerstones and do a little bit of self-analysis and see which area maybe could really use some nurturing and focus.
Kimberly: 26:13 And intuitively, I’m going to say for you, it might be the emotional wellbeing one. And we are so resilient and especially as women, we can be so strong sometimes and we push things down or we just know we can handle it. And we focus on other people, or we focus on what needs to be done at work. But it’s really important that we don’t ignore stress and feelings and what can feel… that’s building in our mind or building from a worry standpoint or whatever it is. And this is so key to feeling good. And this is so key to energy. When we have control over our thoughts, and we feel that calmness and that equanimity from within we don’t waste as much energy and we definitely can open up potential big energy blocks.
Thought of the Week
Kimberly: 27:03 So those are our questions for this week, Beauties. Thank you so much, all of you that wrote in. And I really love hearing from you, but before we sign off here, I want to leave you with a quote of the week. I actually have on my desk here, a copy of Radical Beauty, which is a book I coauthored with Deepak Chopra, who I happen to love very much. And this is a quote from chapter… from page five rather. And it goes, “Your uniqueness makes it totally unnecessary to compare yourself with anyone else. For too many people beauty involves feeling inferior by comparison. This always creates a gap, a duality between what is now and what is ideal. When it comes to radical beauty, there is absolutely no space for comparison or competition. Each of us is here to express our highest beauty, which no one else’s beauty can diminish.”
Kimberly: 28:12 So I wanted to bring this up because it’s a reminder, again, of our uniqueness, our unique situations. We’re all living in our own unique reality and we know our bodies best, which is why we want to continue to do all the self-analysis we talked about and to tune in to especially the four cornerstones and which cornerstone we really need to focus on and nourish in our lives. And also, I just want to remind you that you’re beautiful just as you are. And what we’re doing with removing blocks here is just uncovering more and more of your natural light and your glow. Your true beauty is already inside of you and there’s nobody like you. So what we’re doing is we’re working on, again, just uncovering that true beauty and letting that light shine through these practices. Because if there’s any area that you feel blocked, you definitely want to pay attention to that and remove it so that you go back to feeling that beautiful flow that is your natural state.
Kimberly: 29:15 So thank you so much for tuning in with me, beauties. I love being with you. I love our show. Keep the questions coming. Also, visit me over on Instagram at @_kimberlysnyder. I will see you Monday for our next podcast or next interview or solo cast podcast. Till then, sending you so much love. And I will see you back here soon.
