Today we’re going to talk about five must have veggie goals. Now we’ve all heard the saying veggies are great for us. We all know that. I think when something is so general and so vague, it can be really hard to pinpoint actionable lifestyle steps. So that’s what I want to talk about it today. Here are five goals that you can really incorporate into your life in very doable, practical ways.
#1 – Veggie Centric
The first goal is to start your day veggie centric. This is what is built into drinking the Glowing Green Smoothie, our signature smoothie. I guarantee that this will give you a ton of energy. Your skin will start to glow. You will start to feel amazing. It has been a staple of my lifestyle since I wrote the Badadi Tox Solution, which was back in 2011.
It’s something that I have all my clients drink. And, it’s something that I so strongly get behind because we’re harnessing the power of mother nature in her wholeness with whole vegetables.
Of course, there’s a lemon juice component and some high fiber fruit so we’re getting that sweetness as well. We’re also getting a ton of fiber and minerals and antioxidants.
All these co-factors work synergistically to make this a powerful elixir to put into your body everyday. So first thing in the morning, we start with our GGS.
#2 – Community Meal Planning
Number two, I have put together a plant-based meal with a friend or a family member. It is so wonderful. It’s such an amazing form of self care to cook your own food.
It’s wonderful to try out new ideas, new recipes, new thoughts. Things that you see at the Farmer’s Market may create inspiration. It’s extra fun to cook it with a friend, or your partner, or a family member. Or you could cook it and share it with them and you could swap.
That makes it community-based. I think that’s also a really wonderful goal when we share our lifestyle and we share health based living with our loved ones. It just creates more of that collective energy that we all love so much. It feels so good to share that together
#3 – Protein Sources from Veggies
Number three is to seek out your protein sources from veggies. Now, a lot of us think a meal has to have a protein component. Meaning it means to be chopped with chicken, or fish, or whatever but that’s actually not true.
When you really look at the research, you look at the amount of protein in vegetables. This is because it’s quite easily assimilated into the body in the form of amino acids. We don’t need those long chain amino acids that need to be broken down, that are largely denatured by heat, from just cooking chicken where it goes from pink to white.
Vegetables are actually a wonderful source of protein. As long as you eat them in their whole form, and you rotate them in, and you’re eating ample amounts of veggies.
I’m going to throw out a couple quick figures here. Broccoli is about 4.26 grams of protein per one stalk. Edamame is 18 grams per one cup. Green beans are eight and a half grams of protein per one cup. Spirulina, which is a sea vegetable, is four grams per one tablespoon.
There are lots of wonderful ways to mix and match your protein. You can make stir-frys or make soup to really get your protein sources from vegetables. This is a great goal.
#4 – Eating a Rainbow of Veggies
My number four-goal is to eat a rainbow of veggies. We know that when we eat the whole array, we’re getting a wide range of antioxidants. This is really great. If we just eat one type of veggie over and over again, we’ll get great benefits. But, we really want to get the range of all the colors. We want that synergistic quality.
So next time you’re at the store, or the Farmer’s Market, look down at your cart or your basket and try to see how many colors of the rainbow you have.
If you can get a full rainbow in, including blueberries which are coming into season now, to even out that blue part, then that’s a really great goal as well.
#5 – Learn How Veggies Lighten Your Mood
Your fifth goal is learn how veggies on your plate can lighten your mood. Anytime we have more knowledge or more wisdom, I think it can help us motivate to have more veggies.
This is for serotonin, which we’ve all heard of, is a neurotransmitter that helps to mediate our mood. 95% of our serotonin is actually produced in our GI tract, which is why we really want to support our gut health.
This is why SBO probiotics are super important. We know that our GI tract functions very well in the presence of fiber. And fiber only comes from plant food. It only comes from vegetables. It helps to regulate the short chain fatty acids in our gut. It helps everything functioning at its optimal level. We need fiber.
Just think of it this way, the more veggies you have, the happier that you may feel as well. This is because of the gut health that you are benefiting from when you have more veggies.
It’s not just for glowing skin and energy, which is also super important, but peace and joy. Food is alchemy. It’s the here and now. We can hold it. It’s physical. That helps to create the life that we want. It helps to create the moods, the feelings, the peacefulness, the equanimity.
Food is a very important part of our lifestyle. And so is meditation and sleep. We also need healthy relationships and all these other parts of the Solluna Lifestyle. But food is a very important part for supporting the way that we want to experience life. It’s important for us to feel happy, and light, and peaceful. By eating plant-based veggies, as the cornerstone of your diet you will get there.
