Kimberly Snyder (00:00.782)
Hi everyone, welcome to May. Welcome to the first Thursday of the month, which going forward is now our Feel Good podcast Thursday show, our Power Hour. And this month we’re gonna be focusing on clarity, specifically clear mind, aligned life, how the four cornerstones create inner clarity. So we chose this theme for May because May is a really wonderful month. We’re deeply in spring, we’re moving towards summer.
We’re moving out of fully out of the stagnation of winter and into more of this extroverted energy action steps, really putting into practice what we want to create in our work, in our relationships, in our health, in our vitality. And to get us to where we really want to go, we need clarity. Clarity, of course, is the opposite of confusion, feeling muddy, feeling cloudy, feeling like stuck, right? The blocked energy that we’ve all
at certain times in our life in different areas which none of us want. Clarity has been talked about in spiritual traditions all around the world. There’s quotes in the Bible about being still, right? Stillness breeds clarity. In yoga, there’s a lot of conversation around equanimity, just feeling that ability to be so calm despite what’s going on outside of us so that our intuition can rise up and we can feel really clear. As we’ll get into in our show today,
Our ability to be clear is impacted from everything from our gut health, our food choices, how we take care of our body, emotions, and our spiritual growth, which allows us to tap into something so much bigger than what we look like and what’s going on in the collective news, right? So we can just feel that inner clarity growing and growing no matter what is going on around us. So I’m really excited, a reminder that from going forward, we’re going to have this one show.
Every first Thursday of the month, there’s gonna be a theme. We’re gonna talk about the four cornerstones and we’ll still continue to have our Monday interview show. Our show notes will continue to be at mysaloona.com. I highly suggest you check them out where I’ll have links to the studies, the research I cover here, as well as recipes and other podcasts and articles I think you would enjoy. Speaking of enjoyment, if you have…
Kimberly Snyder (02:20.142)
The inkling within to share the show with anyone you think would benefit I appreciate it so much as well as leaving a review These are really wonderful ways to support the show and to keep it going So all that being said let’s get right back into our topic, which is again about clarity So when we’re talking about clarity, it isn’t just about Mental sharpness. It isn’t just something about you know drinking a bunch of caffeine
or taking some of these nootropics, which are really popular. Some of that can be helpful, but we’re talking about a deeper sense of clarity. We’re talking about aligning the part of you that no one else can give you the key to. What’s right for other people isn’t going to be right for you necessarily because you’re on a unique journey and pathway and you are a unique soul. So clarity is soul level coherence, which is between your thoughts.
your body, your emotions, and your spirit. And when you find this clarity, it’s really priceless. You feel so clear and confident and purposeful. The vagus nerve, from a scientific perspective, is connecting the gut, the heart, and the brain. So we have these three in our brains, and we’ve been talking about gut health here in our community for so many years. And then we started talking about the heart a lot with the new book, The Hidden Power of the Five Hearts and Heart Coherence.
And this is also linked with the brain, which then of course impacts our thoughts and how we’re really experiencing our day-to-day lives. So there’s this multi-system conversation that’s going on in the body, which makes it essential to have a holistic approach to gaining this clarity, which is going to benefit us so much in creating what we want in our life. The HeartMath Institute research shows that the heart is sending more information up to the brain than vice versa.
And this was some of the research that I was using and writing about in the book and really blew me away because so much of our modern life tends to be really linear, thinking through and forcing our way and packing more in. But it turns out that we can actually be a lot more efficient in how we’re creating clarity, which is great news. And there’s so many tools within us and within our power.
Kimberly Snyder (04:43.864)
to create this at a really simple and small, including learning how to really get coherent in your heart, which I’ll talk about in just a moment when we get to that part of our show. And that’s gonna just really help this alignment between heart and brain and allow you to feel so much more settled, grounded, and peaceful. Now, one of the things, I talk about stillness, I talk about groundedness and clarity.
One of the things that yoga teaches is that our ability to be abundant rests in our mani, between the manipura chakra, which is our personal will, but also our muladhara chakra, which is in our root. So if you’re feeling a lot of confusion, a lot of unsettledness, there’s a lot of fear, it can really block us from this abundance of health, this abundance of well-being and this abundance materially. So we wanna really…
stabilize ourselves and that is within our control no matter what decisions people are making at work or you know things happening in the greater news and the greater collective this is something that is within our control so it’s really about intuition and it’s not just about black and white facts we know that there’s information overload in the world today but what this really is about is getting
as you sift through information about what’s gonna serve you at this moment and what isn’t and really no one can give you again those keys to which direction to go in and how to think. This is all, this is really an internal job. Speaking of internal, let’s go to our first cornerstone which is food. So food is essential in this because poor digestion results in confusion and brain fog and is the opposite of clarity.
So once again, we wanna distill down what your body is digesting and assimilating is more important than adding up a bunch of numbers. Right now, it seems like so many people are obsessed with protein. And I meet people that are having three protein bars a day and two protein shakes and just wanting the most efficient way to get protein in and not really focusing on whole foods and micronutrients and really good digestion. And I see a lot of these people.
Kimberly Snyder (07:00.514)
coming to me and they’re bloated and they don’t understand, they feel inflamed. And again, it’s over emphasizing the wrong thing. Protein is important, of course, but if you’re eating a whole food diet and a whole food plant-based diet, as I do, it’s actually pretty easy to get a lot of protein in, but also the wholeness of the foods and this wide variety of fiber and micronutrients, which is allowing your gut to function really, really well. And this is really important because your gut…
is not just where you break down food, it’s your body’s information superhighway. There’s so much sensitivity and nerves and neurotransmitters in your gut, that is why it is another brain. So we really want to elevate our gut health in order to create true clarity in our life. The gut is producing over 90 % of the serotonin and 50 % of the dopamine, these neurotransmitters which directly impact your mood, your focus and your…
motivation. So when we have poor digestion, we actually create inflammatory messengers such as cytokines or cytokines. I’ve heard it said both ways and this can lead to mental fog, fatigue, indecision, or like I say, decision paralysis, where sometimes people would say to me, I don’t know, when I’m hungry, I just don’t know what I should eat. They sort of feel frozen and lack the power
to feel guided in their decisions. So again, this can really be contributed from a very deep place within you that’s very, something that’s controllable, something that you can really work on, even if you don’t feel a lot of energy right now, even if you’re feeling really down in your life and you can’t fully get off the couch, some of the things that you can do is to, for example, have the glowing greens powder.
This is such a powerful mix of plants with spirulina and chlorella. I have it every single day to cleanse heavy metals out and to also just give me that energy in the iron. You might have heard a podcast I did a couple of weeks ago, maybe months ago about my blood work where my iron was really great, as was my B12, my vitamin A, all these other vitamins and minerals in my body. So.
Kimberly Snyder (09:17.684)
If you don’t have the energy to order food, go to the market, make the Glow-in-Greens smoothie. At least you can take a scoop of the Glow-in-Greens powder, which is a really beautiful ratio and there’s a synergy to the ingredients. Put it in a glass, mix it with water and drink it. It’s super easy. You can also be sure to take your SBO probiotics, your saluna probiotics, preferably designed by yours truly, our clinically researched formula to just allow your gut health to get back on track.
as well as checking out our digestive enzymes and taking them before meals so that you’re better able to aid digestion. Now, if you’re listening to this and you are one of the people who’s having a lot of protein bars right now, it’s convenient, it’s easy to add up your protein grams, try taking the enzymes before those bars at least so that you don’t get bloated and you’re able to get the most out of whatever you’re eating. I also really recommend not
eating when you’re rushed or agitated or you’re sort of you know in the car trying to get somewhere really fast because that affects how your body digests. Remember we want to feel that pinpoint clarity and what does that look like when you’re eating. It doesn’t mean you have to set up a perfect environment but you don’t want to be again in hurry mode.
You don’t want to feel really agitated and completely disconnected from your food. You want to at least take some time to sit or at least a moment to feel really still and quiet and enjoy what you’re eating and chew better. And all of this will result in better digestion. So remember that when you are taking the time to make things for yourself, it can be really simple.
Again, you can throw together the ingredients for the Glow-in-Green Smoothie, you can make the Power Protein Smoothie, both of which you can put the Glow-in-Greens powder in as well. You want to remind yourself that this is part of your mindset reset. It’s not just great for your physical body, although of course it is, and it’s nourishing you with so much fiber, minerals, micronutrients, vitamins, antioxidants, and so on, but it’s actually helping you to create more clarity without feeling bogged down.
Kimberly Snyder (11:37.408)
without feeling just so foggy and struggling to make decisions and feeling heavy. Life is right here right now and we really have to tune in and ask ourselves, what is it that we want to create? How do we want to feel in our day-to-day life? And start to expand that out into seeing that all our daily choices really impact that.
Okay, so the next cornerstone is body. And what’s really important to remember is that our bodies, our temples, actually can store confusion and stress, whereas movement and detoxifying and allowing our natural processes of detoxification to be more efficient, open the lymphatic system, open up our energy, and allow highways of clarity and fresh energy to move.
through us. The truth is that clarity is not just a mental issue. Clarity is also a completely, it’s part of our embodied physical experience. When our bodies feel clogged, when our bodies feel stagnant, when we’re sitting all day, when we’re in an environment that’s just full of clutter and noise and artificial lights.
and just doesn’t feel good, then we don’t feel into our natural intuition and our natural vibrancy. So physical blockage and physical vitality relate to mental vitality and mental blockage as well. Again, the Four Cornerstones are really addressing this whole lifestyle approach and reminding all of us that we have to really take into account all aspects of our lifestyle in order to feel our best.
So there’s a lot of research and traditional medicine that backs all of this up. For example, you may have heard of fascia, and also there’s different treatments now that to release fascia can be a little bit painful. I’ve gotten it myself, but then afterwards you can feel more open, you can feel like your posture’s opening up. And the fascia is a connective tissue network that runs through all the different parts of your body. It wraps around your muscles, your tissues, your joints, and…
Kimberly Snyder (13:56.95)
we can actually physically hold stress and trauma and tension in our fascia. And when it’s tight, it restricts movement and energy circulation. And this again can create feelings of heaviness and fog and being stuck. And one of the things that we can do to just open up fascia is simple stretching, rolling on a foam roller, and also staying really hydrated.
You hear me talk about hydration a lot. I drink room temperature water in the morning. Sometimes I add electrolytes or I’ll add amino acids. But I also drink room temperature water during the day. And I think it’s so essential again for our skin, our clarity, our bodies to stay open. Remember openness is clarity. When we start to get rigid and tight in our bodies and in our minds and in our emotions, we’re shutting down possibility. And therefore we’re shutting down abundance.
In our uvata, blocked vata energy in the body can cause anxiety and mental indecisiveness. So if we’re having blocked vata is the air and the wind element, it means that we can notice in our body feeling more gassy, more bloated, more constipated. There’s a lot of cracking in our joints, right? We just start to feel very ungrounded. And traditional Chinese medicine, liver chi stagnation is directly linked with feelings of frustration.
indecision and brain fog. The liver governs the smooth flow of energy both physically and emotionally. So some other things that you can do in your daily life to keep this flow going for clarity is even simple practices like dry brushing, abhyanga, self massage. I’m recently or I’m going to put out the next I just shot this little video yesterday about a twisting video for your Manipura chakra which is your
Third chakra, your seat of personal will and power, a twisting video, keeping your hands at your heart. Twisting is really powerful for releasing old stagnation. It can help you feel clear. Sometimes I do this twisting movement, which can be slower or faster when I’m wanting clarity before I start a project, or sometimes it’s when I am drumming up more energy to use my will to move forward.
Kimberly Snyder (16:25.28)
Right? So you can use this when there’s just a lot going on and your just physical movement can be really powerful for clearing the space and moving forward with the best possible action step. So when you just, when you feel more clear in your body, I mean, there’s such a difference in your mind. Again, this of course links to digestion. This links to making sure you’re having enough bowel movements. This links to using natural skin products that aren’t clogging your skin, your largest organ.
It’s also a great idea to take infrared saunas when you can to and allow yourself to sweat and to open up pathways through your skin to release. A wonderful thing that you can take is detoxi, which is something that I’d still take all the time for many, many years. It’s vitamin C, stable vitamin C, magnesium and oxygen.
And it helps to open up your body. It’s not a laxative, it’s not habit forming, but it allows waste and assets to move out. Because guess what happens when you move things out? You have more energy inside of you. Just pure space, not blockage. And the more pure energy you have, and the more you get rid of the toxins, which aren’t really meant to hang out and be there long term, the more clear and still and calm and energized you will feel.
So let’s move on to our next cornerstone, which is emotional well-being. So a really important talking point here is that when we abandon ourselves emotionally, when we look outward for validation rather than inward for truth and showing up for ourselves and realizing there may be something that we need to face, process, or move through, we give away our power and we get more confused.
because we’re tuning into external noise versus internal wisdom. So this could look a lot of ways. This means that we’re constantly people pleasing, are looking for approval. We compare ourselves, we need reassurance. And all of this means we’re externally oriented and none of that is really giving us the clarity that we’re seeking. So clarity again is about the sole coherence. has to come from inside of you.
Kimberly Snyder (18:49.592)
So the clearer we are emotionally, we realize the line between us and others. We realize healthy boundaries. We start to be more aware of when we’re processing emotions, when we’re emotionally dysregulated. I’m going into old story, old trigger, old trauma. We start to notice what that feels like in our physical body. Maybe we tighten up our shoulders or our face scrunches up or we just feel, for me it’s like a hollowness in my belly.
And what that signals to me is that there’s big emotions at play. Just like the practices I talk about in the book with heart coherence, it means it’s time for me to pause and just come into my heart and take some deep breaths and not suppress the emotions or run away from them, but to show up for myself by actually allowing them to digest and be felt and move through me and to wait. It doesn’t always happen, right? When we’re triggered, but ideally to wait until we’re truly calm and clear.
before we say or email or take action in any way. Buddhist psychology teaches that attachment to external validation and outcomes leads to suffering and confusion. When we rely on others to define our worth or direction, we lose our center. Attachment is also talked about in Vedic philosophy, attached to things being a certain way, attached to people responding to us in a certain way.
just any sort of external ideas that start to, we start to grip down and feel like we need that. We’re starting to lose who we are and we start to get really confused. So some examples of this might be that you are attached to people and you may stay in relationships longer than you know is healthy or you start to feel like triggered at work. instead of having
conversations which feel really clear and communicative. You wallow, you harbor resentment, or you quit and leave abruptly. There’s so many ways in which this can play out where we’re just not really in our fullest expression. We consistently get angry or feel not like ourselves and we constantly look, again as I mentioned, to other people to make us feel
Kimberly Snyder (21:16.318)
like reinforce the decision that we’re making. And sometimes we often go to the people that we know are gonna back us up. So it’s not necessarily a clear choice anyway. Or we follow the people on social media that are reinforcing what we already believe. So we’re surrounded by this yes-ness. Again, instead of just working on emotions, which are energy and motion, stealing those emotions to feel the center inside of us. And one of the things that heart coherence
does is it creates more emotional intelligence. And so this means that we become more aware of our emotions, we become more aware of others emotions and what they’re really trying to communicate. And we have the tools to get centered. Otherwise the emotions start to run us. And I think we can all relate to that. Whether it’s being up all night with insomnia and anxiety, replaying things, going about your day, but in the back of your mind harboring an anger or resentment all through the day.
which definitely dysregulates your body, right? There’s so many different ways in which emotions can affect our health and our wellbeing and our clarity. Now, some research shows that overuse of social comparison and people pleasing lights up the default mode network, which is the part of our brain associated with rumination, worry, and a loss of present moment awareness. So we really want to be aware of
What is our truth versus what am I doing to please others? Where am I betraying myself so that I can get this sort of approval or compare myself to others? It’s all external orientation, which is not where we will ever find peace, clarity, and health. It has to come back to ourselves. There’s practices like journaling and breath work.
which strengthen the anterior cingulate cortex, which supports emotional regulation, decision-making, and self-insight. So anytime we bring it inward, So journaling is really about expressing our deepest truths, what’s really what we’re feeling, what we’re thinking, what we’re going through. And then the breath, you know, is part of our life force coming in as we focus on our heart, breathing in and out of the heart.
Kimberly Snyder (23:39.638)
or just simply slowing down and extending our exhales is going to be such powerful self-care practices in the moment when we’re feeling triggered, when we’re feeling rushed, when we’re feeling frustrated to come back to our center. And our center is always where the clarity will live.
So remember that you can check out the book, The Hidden Power of the Five Hearts, which has some really simple but powerful heart coherence practices and a coherence breath pattern that you can start to incorporate. Even if you’re driving in the car, you’re taking a shower, or you’re getting dinner ready, you can actually start to work on increasing your heart coherence baseline more and more over time.
It doesn’t just have to be when you sit down and do the full heart aligned meditation, which is really powerful, but you can start to bring in breath work and integrate it into your day. Some journaling prompts, one that I want to call out to you is what truth am I afraid to admit to myself today? And we just start to peel back the layers of really being honest with how we feel, taking accountability, self-acceptance.
Right? Because there’s a lot of masks that we may wear and not wanting to admit, like I know I’m a recovering perfectionist and some of it has been really hard for me to look at things that I, ways in which I may affect people or I rush through, are people please or whatever it is. And so when we start to really look inward to the degree that we feel comfortable, which can grow and more and more over time, we create so much more of this higher vision.
And that’s also where clarity comes from. We need to be able to honestly look at ourselves and to grow in self-awareness. Otherwise, if we can’t see, we just keep living out unconscious patterns and reinforcing these patterns and keeping ourself in dullness, confusion, tamasic energy, right? This downward confusion, this very low energy, this low vibration that Arya Veda talks about instead of that sattvic, that very clear, that very full of vitality.
Kimberly Snyder (25:50.848)
and ojas and prana glowing and just alive. A simple validation to remind yourself once you calm your emotions is that it’s okay to trust myself. It’s okay to trust myself. And then you start to peel back little by little from, you know, immediately texting a friend or talking to the, you know, someone over and over again about the same situation.
or however you get the external validation. And then you just start to feel more strong in following your own intuition. Another thing that you can do is to come back to center again when things feel really swirling and chaotic. This simple practice of just placing your hands on your heart, grounding into the center, because there is a lot of chaos, there is a lot of movement, there is a lot of noise in the world. I’m coming back in here.
just reminds you that there is this place of clarity and wisdom and peace that’s living right here inside of you, inside of your all-intelligent, powerful heart. So our fourth cornerstone is spiritual growth. And it’s not about doing more. We live in a society that’s like, what are you doing? And then there’s long, huge lists of to-do’s that can also include excessive amounts of self-care practices and…
zillions of things that you’re supposed to do in a day. It’s really about tuning into our wholeness. And one of the things I say in The Hidden Power of the Five Hearts is that our path to growth and realizing more of the true self, self-realization, and the unconditional love that is our true nature isn’t linear. So there’ll be moments where you’ll listen to a podcast like this, and we’re talking about some of this. And then later when you’re in the shower, a realization may come up.
for you in your own life, or you write that journal prompt that we mentioned earlier, what’s a truth that’s hard for me to see right now? And then you write, but then maybe while you’re doing the dishes or you’re walking the dog, you may realize that there was this other part that unfolded. So we’re coming back to wholeness and radical self-acceptance that we’re human, we’re imperfect, we’re on this journey.
Kimberly Snyder (28:13.464)
but what we’re moving towards is not perfection because there’s already a type of perfection in the wholeness of our souls, but towards realizing that we’re whole and realizing that the more authentic we are and perfectly perfect, the more that we can feel joyful, peaceful, calm, and clear. So.
You know, there’s just so much, and I can say this from personal experience, about having the wrong goal, you know, trying to get towards this, you know, false idea of perfect and making all the perfect decisions and doing everything perfectly well. But you know what? Life is a real evolution and we stumble a lot along the way and we hurt ourselves and then we can hurt other people. But what’s important is to realize that and to learn lessons.
to take responsibility. Sometimes we need to say sorry, say to ourselves, well, I’m not gonna do that again. Right? But then we just start to get more clear about aligning our words, our thoughts, our actions, our voice. Everything just starts to line up in our life. And that was, I remember when I was writing the book, The Beauty Detox Power, a couple of years ago, I started to really…
Consider what the word power meant and it took me a really long time to come up with this definition about this inner alignment It’s really powerful to be in your truth. It’s really powerful to speak your truth It’s really powerful to accept yourself and see the parts that you need to work on and also see clearly the parts where you’re really already beautiful and whole right and Again, if we don’t see this What it means is that we can constantly feel a sense of lack
Like we have to make up for something, we have to be something that we’re not. We have to wear, again, the mask, we have to compare, we have to be shiny or look a certain way. Very inauthentic. And this also creates confusion because we move away from the North Star of what really is in our hearts and really just the most fullest expression of ourselves. So.
Kimberly Snyder (30:30.55)
Mindfulness practices, and I don’t always love this word, but for me it’s, like to say stillness practices, have been shown in neuroscience though to reduce default mode network activity, the brain loop responsible for overthinking, comparison, and mental noise. So these practices, which we can use our will, which is something that Paramahansa Yogananda talked about, really putting in the effort to say, I’m going to choose this, I have this intention to do this practice, really does help to manage your mind.
There’s also these beautiful heart-focused practices, gratitude, the heart-aligned meditation, which uses the energy of appreciation, which is a mix of gratitude, thankfulness, and awe. Breath awareness, following a mantra, focusing on a mantra either in your third eye, which we did in our practical enlightenment meditations. There’s still tracks for that as well on our website or in your heart. And reinforcing a simple…
truth, you I am peace, am peace, om, let, go, right? We can just start to really, sink with the energy behind the simple words that we’re saying over and over again and start to, over time, sometimes it’s, you know, a little bit more distracted when we start, but over time we start to come across to living and more of this sinking up and less of
Again, the fragmentation and all the confusion of the mind. So I love this through line from yogic philosophy and Buddhist meditation, which is that wisdom and truth arise when the mind becomes still. And the more still we are, the more the heart opens, the more we can live a heart led life. And so what’s really important is to listen, to be more open and know
show up for ourselves and not pretend that we’re not feeling a certain way or not, you know, try to dampen certain emotions, but to get centered and to let things move through you and to create more awareness.
Kimberly Snyder (32:45.806)
This all allows you to feel more trusting of yourself. You’ll start to know when you’re really still. And then you realize that from this really clear place, this is where I can make the best decisions. If we’re in a state of dysregulation, we aren’t sleeping well, we’re not eating well, our emotions are running, maybe we’re feeling a lot of frustration or a lot of fear, this is not the place to make decisions. This is not where clarity lives. So again,
There’s so many wonderful meditations and especially the Heart Aligned Meditation, which we will link to in the show notes. It’s over on our website as well, mysaluna.com. It’s an eight minute practice that we studied with the Heart Math Institute and found that it really did help to increase heart coherence and just, I think anytime you do it, you’re raising the baseline, but what we studied was four weeks of doing the practice was really significant. I also encourage you to do any sort of practices that connect you back to source, back to yourself.
which could be prayer, going to a temple or a synagogue or a mosque or a church, walking in the forest. That’s a big one for me as well, being in nature. I love to be in the stillness of the trees. I like to meditate outside whenever I can. And I do meditate first and then I pray because the meditation for me allows me to get really still and clear and then I feel more open and connected to myself and to spirit.
The truth doesn’t scream, it whispers. And when you’re clear, you hear it loud and clear. So clarity, a huge part of vitality, of fulfillment, of creating the life that we want. We start to be really clear about everything from what we’re eating to what we’re gonna say in a text chain or a conversation. What’s really the heart, lead, kind, efficient thing to say here.
we start to be really clear about where we wanna put resource, where we wanna deepen into relationships, and where we wanna move away. So such a powerful theme. Thank you so much for tuning in with me. I hope you’re enjoying this new format, which is really power packed at the top of the month. And then you can take the whole month, you can listen to this again, you can look at the transcript on our show notes. You can work with the journal prompt through the month and the tips through the month.
Kimberly Snyder (35:11.234)
