Hi everyone and welcome back to our Thursday Q &A show. I am so excited to talk about this incredible topic today, which came from our community, which is understanding the divine feminine and practices to connect with the divine feminine energy. And I want to say right off the bat that this energy inside of us is creative, soft.
nonlinear dynamic potential energy is inside of all of us. Regardless of gender, we all have masculine energies and divine feminine energies. And it’s very powerful to understand and to work with this energy, which can nourish and elevate and bring a whole different dimension into our lives from everyday practices and the ways in which we may communicate, the ways in which we move our body, the ways in which we cook our food.
energies running through us are expressed out of us in our everyday energies, everyday action steps that we take. And so it’s very powerful to understand more about the divine feminine energy. It’s really interesting because in certain countries like India, there is a lot of speaking about divine mother as well as divine father.
So seeing that there is different attributes within the divine, the higher power versus some of us that grew up in certain religions or spiritual contexts, such as myself, who grew up Catholic and the Christian tradition, we think a lot about the father, more of a masculine divinity. But, you know, from a spiritual context, we can say that spirit,
And this creative energy that is the highest intelligent energy that’s running through us and running through everything is beyond a specific human concept of one particular gender or a construct or identity, but rather is a mix of all these incredible energies. And so the divine feminine energy we’ll get into today is something that we can connect with inside of us.
Kimberly Snyder (02:22.248)
And it’s interesting because I have a dear friend, I’ll call her Hannah. She recently said to me, it’s very similar to the question that we got today on the show, which is one of the reasons I’m very excited to talk about this. Because when a question comes a couple of times to me in a short period of time, I really feel like the universe is saying this is something to respond to, something to address. And she said to me, you know, I keep hearing I’m supposed to connect to this feminine energy inside of myself or this divine feminine energy. She goes, I don’t know what it is.
I don’t get it. I don’t know how to do that. And now Hannah is someone who has a lot of close friends. She’s always struggled with long-term relationships. She’s dated a couple of people, but she didn’t start dating till much later in life. And it’s just something she’s wondering about, how that can elevate different parts of her life.
So we’re gonna get into all of this today. I’m very excited about this topic. And again, to make clear, we’re not talking about, is relevant whether whatever gender you identify with, this is a very important topic for all of us, all humans to get in touch with this divine feminine energy.
Little reminder that the show notes are at mysaluna.com. You can get more information about the research studies we’re going to talk about today, other podcasts I think you would enjoy. The new book is out, The Hidden Power of the Five Hearts, which is a way to balance energies and elevate energy in your life, including divine feminine energy. Also for some of us, divine masculine energy. The heart is highly intelligent and is not just a feminine or masculine thing.
For instance, as we come into our steadiness, we come into our real voice and expression, we can stay loving and kind and soft. These aspects of more feminine qualities, we can say we can avoid harshness, but at the same time, we’re so steadfast and strong that we can really express our needs and put up healthy boundaries in that way, more traditionally associated with the masculine holding space.
Kimberly Snyder (04:32.172)
Right, so we balance all energies as we continue to elevate and open our hearts. So the hidden power of the five hearts is relevant to today’s topic and beyond. I also want to mention as we’re talking about balancing energies, food remains a very important cornerstone in our lifestyle. And if you have not yet checked out our glowing greens powder, I’m drinking it right now. Actually, I’m staring at it next to the computer. Having these really powerful plants.
is a way to awaken your vitality, to awaken your energy and your creativity. And it allows you to express the fullest potential of all of these energies in your life. So make sure you are deeply nourishing yourself and do add the G.G.P., the glowing greens powder, to water, to coconut water or to your glowing greens smoothie as I do every day. All right. So our question comes from Devin who lives in Austin, Texas.
Devin says, I love the podcast and would love to get your thoughts about embodying my divine feminine and what that entails for my everyday life. So Devin, thank you again for bringing this question along with my friend Hannah out there. She’s listening to the show. I know she listens to our podcast at times. Know that you directly inspired this as well. I really love the Vedic texts, the ancient texts. I love studying all the different spiritual traditions.
And what really fascinates me is in Hinduism and yogic tradition, there’s this concept of the Shiva Shakti. So Shiva is this, you know, when you see a statue or something representing Shiva, it’s this, you know, upright, sort of straight backed, you know, male figure. And Shiva represents this energy of transformation, of the destruction.
of the ego and ego, ignorance and delusion into the truth of who we really are, the true self, this unfolding of all the different layers. We could say the unlocking of the heart, unlocking of the third eye and the true self. So there’s this very masculine image associated with Shiva. And if you go to a Shiva temple in India or other places, there’s a lot of fire. There’s a lot of
Kimberly Snyder (06:51.478)
You know, it feels like, I keep using the word linear, it just feels like lot of masculine energy. Now Shiva, you could say the consort of Shiva is Shakti. So this energy circling around sort of like if Shiva is a staff or trident, it’s this almost like a snake or the energy woven around this creative power, the power of nature.
the power to express, be radiant in nonlinear dynamic ways. I keep saying nonlinear. For me, this was a really big part of my journey is embracing this more holistic energetic part. If I look back and this harkens back to the propelled heart stage, the second heart stage of the hidden power, the five hearts, for many of us, we start to get on these tracks of
head down, keep working, keep achieving, keep checking things off the list, keep checking the numbers, how much do I weigh, what are the numbers, sales numbers, how much money am I making, numbers, numbers, numbers. And the problem is that we can harden, we can get harsh, we can get rigid, we start to have these plans, we start to try to overly control things, we try to overly control our bodies, we try to exert control in relationships.
And this is an imbalance. This is not healthy. We need the masculine energy to keep us grounded and moving forward and actually following through with goals and dreams and checkpoints and getting things done. But the divine feminine energy, which we’re focusing on today, is this nourishing, balancing energy that is so dynamic and creative. It brings this
There’s this word in yoga called amrita, this nectar, this sweetness. In different spiritual concepts, the divine feminine is the nurturing, compassionate, and intuitive aspect. It’s linked to goddesses and female deities in various cultures and religions. In Taoism, the divine feminine is associated with the yin energy, which is receptive and introspective. So we think about yin.
Kimberly Snyder (09:14.968)
being more of the receiving. Think about water, how it shapes around a boat and it’s able to accept and receive versus an arrow, which is pushing its way and pointing its way. So if we have all of that masculine energy, things can get a little bit aggressive, a little bit brittle, a little bit harsh. Whereas the nurturing, the receiving, the…
allowing the compassionate aspect of the divine feminine in our everyday lives allows us to harmonize with life, which is part of heart intelligence. It means we pivot. It means we adjust. It means that we make accommodations for ourselves and for others.
It means that we bring in intuition so that if we happen to be a little bit tired, we don’t over push the body. If we happen to be on our moon cycles getting our menstrual period, perhaps we don’t do the same type of high intensity workout, but we do some yin yoga or we do a walk or we take a break, right? It’s this intuitive, you know, being so in touch and deeply connected with ourselves and others that the divine feminine, you know, comes down to
knees or sits down with your child and can sense that an extra hug is needed or some kind words or just a quiet moment of presence versus time to get to soccer practice. Come on, let’s pack up. Let’s go. Let’s Right. This drivenness, which is part of modern life. It’s an epidemic. It’s part of, you know, modern culture and living in cities and more urban centers is this constant going.
I really feel this energy when I’m in New York City and I was recently in New York City. There’s just a briskness, a different type of pace. And when we are always on that pace, wherever we happen to live, what happens is we tend to get into hurry energy. We tend to have more stress. We tend to be in more fight or flight. We tend to age faster. We tend to have more cortisol. All these different things happen.
Kimberly Snyder (11:16.204)
The archetype of the divine feminine, which is the mother, the maiden, the wise woman, the lover, all the different stages of the feminine, the softer, brings this balance to modern life. And it’s very much needed in the world today. As Paramahansa Yogananda talks about the divine feminine energy from a very high perspective of spirit, he talks about how the divine mother
is this aspect of the one of God, of spirit, however you like to think of it, is like the mother who is always compassionate and always loves her child. No matter what the child happens to do, no matter if the child is errant or naughty or strays off the path. And I really resonate with this type of association with the divine because I think that some of the
shall I say more extreme or harsher imagery from a masculine perspective of God that punishes and he was harsh and it just invokes feelings of guilt for me and I don’t feel as close to that type of energy whereas I believe in love.
And I believe in connection. And I think the more we connect to spirit inside of us, we start to feel that spirit in all things. We start to blossom open in our heart connection and with all others. to be, again, to emphasize this, doesn’t mean that we want to be overly feminine because the overly feminine in imbalance, we can say if it’s just all this sort of yin,
of floating energy, nonlinear energy, this is where we can get ungrounded. This is where we may get overly emotional, right? Versus the heart intelligence, which is kind and loving, but also starts to see things in a common sense way. There’s clarity instead of bringing up all the triggers and reactions from the past. We start to cut through into this present moment, getting rid of all the stories and narratives of the mind.
Kimberly Snyder (13:31.148)
Right? So there’s a presence that’s needed and there’s a strength to come into this present moment. And then when we’re here, we don’t want to be so rigid and so harsh, but we want to soften into more of this divine feminine energy, which isn’t as literal as the mind and the masculine in over an imbalance, but starts to see context.
versus the literal words. this is what I feel like this is where this person’s coming from. The intuition of true communication, which is far beyond just actual words that people are saying, but what they’re meaning, what they’re trying to say. The intuition of how to really show up for a friend or a loved one and to nurture and to care. These are divine feminine qualities.
There’s also some of these archetypes of the goddesses, which are all energies of the one. I also want to say that what’s interesting about some of these spiritual traditions and religions like Hinduism, which I didn’t really start to know about or study until I was backpacking around the world. We think that there, you know, have all these different gods and different deities. There are deity energies, but within the one, one
spirit, the one Brahma, but they represent different energies. So for instance, Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, of money, of beauty and abundance. And you can see when you see depictions of Lakshmi, how she’s sitting poised on a lily pad or lotus flower. And there’s just a sort of like a curve the way she’s holding her body. It’s not so rigid. There’s a flow to it.
And then there’s another goddess named Sarah Swati who represents intelligence and creativity. And she’s often depicted playing a musical instrument and there’s a book at her feet. I have a beautiful picture of Sarah Swati on my writing desk in Hawaii.
Kimberly Snyder (15:43.671)
And so this expression of the creative coming through in all its different forms, again, regardless of gender, but to be able to tap into this creativity, because if we’re in the overly masculine, if we’re hurrying through life, you know, makes this work, gotta hurry up, finish this. We all know that squashes creativity. We need space. We need room to feel creative and to express.
this energy. So part of allowing the divine feminine energy to come through is to make more space in our lives instead of hurrying through over scheduling, meaning allowing a little extra space. If you want to make a special meal or on the weekends, you want to experiment with baking, making some extra space to connect with a loved one for your love making sessions instead of mechanical and just sort of hurrying through making space to sing.
or to play an instrument with your child. When we look at these goddesses, we can see some of the ways in which they are able to allow this energy to express. So it’s not just checking things off a box, but one of the things we can do is making space to, like I said, sing, cook, journal, write, be in nature, be in nonlinear places.
connect with what is nonlinear, the sun, the moon. You can try moonbathing, sitting outside, journaling or meditating under the stars. I love to do this. Last night, my son and I popped outside just for a few minutes. We were listening to the owls. There’s some incredible owls that live around our house. And he says, you know, want to see the moonlight, mama. And it’s really beautiful to see my son, my older son, he’s Aries. He’s very
fiery, we say a little bit, you know, bringing in that softer side, which is in there. Whereas my younger son is naturally very watery and a little bit more of that natural feminine energy. So we all are born with different percentages, but it’s all in there. And if you’re sitting here listening to this, or as my friend Hannah was called to, and you’re feeling like you’re, you’ve gotten a little bit
Kimberly Snyder (18:07.31)
harsh or rough or rigid or tight, or there isn’t enough space in your life for playfulness and softness and nurturing and care. It’s okay, right? Because that awareness allows us to self-correct, to make adjustments, to rebalance. But what I would recommend is contemplating this idea of the yin, of the water element and how it molds and how it shapes.
and how this could be a missing or an ingredient that you wanna bring into some of your daily interactions. One of the ways you can bring this in is to your self care. Do you rush through cooking food? Do you rush through washing your hair, putting cream on your face, your vitamin C serum, your saloon of vitamin C serum to brighten your skin? Or can you take some extra time to touch your skin?
with actual care and compassion and softness. Can you…
Kimberly Snyder (19:14.666)
allow more spaciousness in even as simple as taking deep breaths or adjusting your exercise routine. So sometimes there’s maybe a hike outside or walk through a park versus always having to do the same workout class Monday, Wednesday, Friday, right? Allowing your to rise up into self care instead of just something that you may contemplate after this podcast and forget about.
or once in a while when you’re on a yoga retreat, how can you integrate this more soft, intuitive, nurturing energy into your life? Another aspect of the divine feminine is, well, there’s actually some interesting studies I want to point out before I forget to get to them, which is one of them is a study in the Journal of Behavioral Medicine.
found that one of the key components of the divine feminine is empathy and emotional intelligence. Part of emotional intelligence is this awareness, this softening into what is this person trying to say? What is it that I’m really trying to communicate? And empathy, what is this person really going through when we’re in a rush, when we’re plowing through and trying to get our point across or our opinion heard or trying to be right, which is the…
masculine and imbalance, we lack empathy, which means we start to cut off connection. It starts to dry up. We start to become disconnected from our brothers and sisters and certainly from ourselves. And then certainly we may get things accomplished, but without the same level of fulfillment and peacefulness running through. For me, divine feminine yin energy,
translates to one of my favorite things to do in the evening after bedtime, after my kids are asleep, is just rolling out my yoga mat and allowing myself to move naturally to stretch. I used to be in a set series, the Dharma Mita series, which I would say was quite masculine. We do the series every day, six days a week. There’s a little bit of modifications you can make. You can go into a forearm stand instead of doing a
Kimberly Snyder (21:32.898)
downward dog, you know, there’s certain things you can modify, but it’s the same sequence. And there was a time in my life I needed to ground. It was very healthy. It felt like medicine for me. But where I am now, after the busyness of the day and moving around, it feels so good just to let my body’s own intuition move itself. Sometimes it’s neck rolls, sometimes it’s hip rolls. This circular quality of stretching is a really powerful way that you can bring divine feminine energy into your day.
I remember writing about this quite a bit in the Beauty Detox Power, my third book, Circular Movements, The Dancing. At the time I was writing about this, I was living in New York City and doing this set series of yoga that I’m speaking to you about. And I would say that there was a bit of know, the divine feminine energy was cut off a little bit from my life. Sometimes when I reflect back on my prior books, I can see how much I was writing for myself.
and bringing forward what was really needed in my life. Same thing with this last book, by the way. This heart information on the heart coherence and the five stages of the heart have just awakened my heart so much and been such a huge impact on my life. It’s wonderful. It so happens that I can share it with others as well. So,
bringing it in into your cornerstones. we talked about exercise, self-care, how you’re showering, how you’re washing your hair, touching your skin for skincare, food, bringing a softer approach, more intuitive eating versus I have to eat this number of protein, have to slash carbs, very linear, very numbers-based.
very restrictive is the overly masculine in terms of food. Whereas divine feminine energy is about nourishment and not just counting. The divine feminine energy would say, from an Ayurvedic standpoint, a nice warm bowl of soup right now feels like it would really nurture me versus just something reading off a chart, like I didn’t get enough protein, so I better eat this protein bar that’s dry and not fresh. This is what my body…
Kimberly Snyder (23:47.786)
needs versus no, actually what I need is something alive and that’s been cooked with care and love. And there’s different ways to nourish, which cannot be measured just with numbers. Emotionally, emotional well-being, the divine feminine is soft. It can pause and flow, like I said, and is okay to reflect and see, well, I could see where I could have
you know, come across this way or how do we, know, yielding in terms of how do we find a win-win here? This is the heart intelligence. This is emotional intelligence. Whereas overly masculine energy can say, I want to win this situation. I’m going to force my way. And as we know that never wins in the end because we can create disconnection and distance spiritually. the yielding, the surrender, the devotion.
We say in yoga the bhakti, all the loving aspects of the divine feminine, the divine feminine deities are to be balanced with some of the, there’s the transformative aspect of Shiva allows us to crack open our ego, to dissolve, to burn away what is not of the true self. Sometimes we really do need the balance and they can work in harmony. But without the divine feminine, which is our subject today.
We can start to become hard end. We can start to become brittle, rigid. We start to lose that softness, that kindness. Sort of like we’re hurrying through the day and we feel like, I have to get to this meeting. And so we don’t let anyone into the road. And so we kind of feel bad about it. And then we don’t look at that person in the eye. And then we just kind of feel like,
You know, I did something that wasn’t in my true heart, but I had to get through, I had to rush through. That’s what the rushing pace of modern life will do to us. And it will cut us off from this very nurturing quality. So another thing that I would encourage you to do is to sit outside when you meditate sometimes, to sit in the moonlight, like I said, the sunlight in nature, in your lawn.
Kimberly Snyder (26:03.736)
just to breathe in the fresh air because one of the aspects of the divine feminine is nature, nature herself, the actual creative energy of nature. So anytime you can garden, anytime you can bring in some plants or create a really sacred space that feels nurturing where you meditate, you can bring some candles, nice textures, materials, rugs, whatever it is to create something that isn’t just
know, linear to get the job done. It’s funny how I went through this book launch and there were so many different types of environments that I found myself in to shoot these interviews and these podcasts. And if you’re watching this on YouTube, a little reminder that we are here on YouTube as well. If you want to waving, you want to get a little peek into my office. I feel really good. The softness of my couch. I have these pillows around me, which just feel really
nurturing and soft. You can’t smell it in here, but I have some non-toxic incense and some, you know, just some beautiful scents and the colors are the softer, rosy pink, which is a saloon color and the orange, the gold, of course, some of my favorite colors. So it feels really nourishing and supportive. I would encourage you to create. We’ve done full shows about how your home environment can really support you.
I would encourage you to also think about your home spaces and how you can bring that creativity and choose from your heart and your intuition about decor, colors, textures that feel really good to you. Right? It’s not just about plowing through as many meetings as possible and clearing out your inbox and your email, but what is the quality of your day-to-day experience? Are you enjoying your days?
You know, the simple moments sitting down with a favorite coffee mug can bring a brightness to your day in a chair that you really love with dimming lights. So it’s not overly harsh overhead lights, right? In fluffy slippers, if you’re working from home for a moment or doing something at home, these little touches, these are ways to self nourish. This is how we bring in that divine feminine energy. This is how we bring in the nourishment.
Kimberly Snyder (28:27.992)
quality, not just quantity, not just rushing through, not just hitting the numbers, but actually the energy. One of the things that was studied in the research study in the clear heart chapter, the fifth heart stage of the hidden power of the five hearts is the power of human touch. So there’s a research study about people holding hands and not holding hands and how it had an impact in their heart brains of the person.
of the people when they were actually touching. So one of the ways that we can bring in more divine feminine energy is to be conscious of how we touch, how we touch, how do we touch our food? How do we handle the food? How do we touch our skin, as I mentioned in skincare? How do you touch your own body? How do you touch inanimate objects? This is something Eckhart Tolle talks about a lot. You know, having appreciation for that pencil or that pot.
How do we touch others? Is it sort of this, you know, padding or mechanical hug? Or is there more of a softening in like a true embrace? Even if it’s, you know, not often or, you know, not long, but the moments where we can really connect with our loved ones in a true loving way of touch.
and bring that healing touch through our lives, it’s gonna be impactful. So I hope this gives you some interesting energy to think about the nature, the nonlinear, the dynamic, the creative power, the nurturing, the soft, like water shaping around. So to review, I highly recommend you spend more time in nature. You allow yourself to engage in some of these nonlinear activities, free form writing, journaling, singing, humming,
experimenting with different cooking, not just following other people’s recipes, maybe just trying some of your own or modifying the recipes, connecting with the sun, the moon, these elements. That’s what saluna is called, by the way, the sun and the moon. Also listening to your body, listening to others in a deeper way, practicing listening from your heart, from your intuition, and these deeper messages that your heart will give you.
Kimberly Snyder (30:50.208)
about any given situation. So it’s not just getting from one thing to the next and bringing more nurturing, softer, intuitive qualities into your four cornerstones. So a more intuitive approach to eating, to handling food, to exercising, how you take care of your body, higher emotional intelligence, and also this devotional aspect of spirituality, not just mechanically doing your practices.
But having space at the end for appreciation, for love, for gratitude, for devotion. And on that note, I’d love us to, I spontaneously felt called to run through a little heart aligned practice together. If you’re willing, if you’re able to, just for one moment, go ahead and close your eyes, place your hands on your heart.
and focus on your heart.
Kimberly Snyder (31:53.122)
and then we’ll breathe in love, peace, compassion and care.
And we’ll exhale out love, peace, compassion, and care. And as you do so, feel every cell, every part of your being soften.
And more time, breathing in love, peace, compassion, and care.
and exhaling out love, peace, compassion, and care into the environment around you, to loved ones.
and to the greater world community.
Kimberly Snyder (32:48.792)
When you’re ready, can float your eyes open. You see that we can always make a shift energetically. It’s important to be aware. It’s important to understand these energies and to work with them and to create balance. The world needs a balance of feminine energy and masculine, not just trying to be right, not just trying to prove points, but to listen, to create unity, to create solutions, to create peace. The world also needs more heart right now, not just
head, know, the overly thinking mind is definitely the masculine and imbalance. overly rational, not compassionate, not soft, not yielding. And this is where the heart energy again has all the energies mixed in, but it brings in this divine feminine quote, these qualities for sure of more compassion and unity and care. And then as we become balanced, we have the bit mix of elements within us and then we can express them.
as needed. There’s times to be strong and to have boundaries or to move forward, but we can do so without the harshness and we can do so in a loving way. So I hope this again is interesting to you. Be sure to check out the Heart Aligned Meditation if you have not yet already. There’s tracks on our website, mysaloon.com. There’s lots of other tools in the new book, The Hidden Power of the Five Hearts.
