There’s more to being truly healthy and achieving and maintaining our vitality than counting calories and working out. That’s why I love creating recipes, like my Vitality Smoothie Recipe, which will provide you with a healthy glow, starting from the inside out.
We need to nourish ourselves with the highest quality plant foods, which contain countless phytonutrients and co-factors that work together to allow us to tap into our highest potential!
What’s in this new smoothie that’s so beneficial? Let’s find out…
Beauty Greens
As always, I highly suggest rotating your greens every chance you get, and it’s no different when it comes to the greens in your smoothies!!
Also, be sure to keep the EWG Dirty Dozen list handy to ensure you avoid eating the inorganic version of these foods as much as possible. You may need to make different selections of greens such as kale, chard, and different lettuces to avoid toxins and chemicals.
Check out my podcast with Ken Cook (EWG’s co-founder and President) for great information – I know you’ll learn a lot, I certainly did! Or read my blog article EWG Shopper’s Guide: The Smartest Way to Use Your $ to Buy Your Food!. This will give you more insight into why it’s so important to steer clear of as many toxins in our food supply, as is possible.
Onward, as we get into some of the greens used in today’s smoothie!
Kale
Forget what you were taught all those years that it was necessary to consume high amounts of dairy products to build stronger bones and prevent osteoporosis.
Statistics show that bone issues like osteoporosis and hip fractures are more frequent in populations where the consumption of dairy is highly consumed. Appalling right?!!
As you know if you’ve read any of my books, I am not a fan of dairy in any shape or form. So what does build strong bones? Focusing on eating more alkaline-forming plant foods, which provide calcium and in a form that your body can actually utilize and integrate.
The net loss from consuming calcium from dairy, which is acidic and causes more calcium to actually be leached than gained by your body.
The best sources for calcium are found in the dark, leafy, green vegetables (sea vegetables, too, plus nuts and seeds), and yes, kale is listed among some of the best plant sources of calcium!
This hearty leaf provides a substantial mix of chlorophyll (a major blood builder), protein-building amino acids, enzymes, minerals, and antioxidants. Kale provides comprehensive support for the body’s detoxification system, which is a major topic in all my Beauty Detox books.

Spinach
In addition to vitality, do you want an anti-aging miracle worker? Spinach is actually super rich in beta-carotene, that converts to powerful anti-aging vitamin A—promoting youthful skin by allowing for proper moisture retention in the epidermis. In turn, this helps in preventing wrinkles, removing dead skin cells from your body and making room for fresh new ones.
Spinach is also high in vitamins C, K and E, a wide variety of minerals, enzymes, fiber, antioxidants!
1 cup of raw spinach has 58 mcg and a cup of cooked, drained, unsalted spinach contains a whopping 263 mcg [1].
Celery
Did you know that celery has the power to relax muscles?! It relaxes the muscles that regulate blood pressure—improving blood flow. This will help to reduce under-eye circles (which really is stagnant blood and adrenal exhaustion). This is exactly what we’re trying to avoid by adding only the best ingredients to our recipes!
It’s also considered a good love-making food, as it can help blood flow to our sexy organs! Good to know, right?! I’ll leave it at that :).
Celery is also high in potassium—a necessary electrolyte—which helps with cellular cleansing and fluid levels. Being a natural diuretic, celery will help keep our blood pressure normal. And don’t forget Vitamin C, all of which will help us achieve and maintain our vitality.
Cilantro
This herb is definitely one of my faves, not only for its flavor but also the cleansing and detoxifying properties! It binds to and helps remove heavy metals out of the gut. This also helps support clear and youthful skin because heavy metals are inflammatory so they can damage the skin and can diminish our beauty.
We get exposed to heavy metals from the environment, and especially in foods such as fish, meat, plus your water, let’s be sure to benefit from cilantro’s amazing cleansing and detoxifying properties!
Beauty Fruits
These tropical beauty fruits are sweet and refreshing and pair nicely with the greens in our vitality smoothie!
Bananas
Do you love bananas as much as I do?! I could eat these guys forever and never tire of them. Thank goodness…since that are amazing at providing natural oils and enzymes—helping your body easily digest them and not weighing down your digestive tract.
You always hear me talking about staying regular and bananas will help you to do just that. They actually will help lubricate it your digestive tract—keeping bowel movements regular. while
In addition, the electrolytes will help restore electrolytic balance (for instance, if you’re experiencing digestive issues such as diarrhea). Bananas really are a perfect, natural, human food.
Bananas are high in potassium, fiber, vitamins A, B, E, K and C, as well as 6 mcg of folic acid—essential for red blood cell formation.
Oranges
Fruit is truly one of the healthiest foods out there. But remember, it must be eaten once our bodies are alkaline and cleansed enough to handle it, and when we have a good amount of healthy bacteria within to break down the fruit sugar. I get all into the details in my Beauty Detox Solution book).
Among these fruits is the juicy and sweet orange! Known for their concentration of vitamin C—oranges make the perfect snack and add a special tang to many recipes, including in our special smoothie today.
Since fruit is the strongest cleanser for our bodies and dissolves toxic substances (while cleansing our tissues and system), this bright fella is a great addition to our beautifying routine—supplying us with fiber, minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes.
Because oranges are generally available throughout the year (depending on the variety), this makes them the perfect ingredient for when you need an inexpensive and beautifying pop of goodness!
How about we get our blenders going!!

Well, the orange juice is perfect for that green smoothie. Nice recipe!
I have a sensitivity to bananas, and it’s hard for me to find recipes without them. Any suggestions for something I could substitute for the bananas? I have a sensitivity to dates as well.
Hi Amanda! You could simply leave out the bananas from your smoothie, or substitute with another fruit like pineapple or berries. Happy blending, Beauty! xx
