Hi Beauty!
I hope you are having a great day so far. Today I’m going to be discussing three easy, non-toxic cleaning supplies for spring. And the reason I want to talk about this is because spring is the season to detoxify.
Spring is when our bodies naturally are shedding the heaviness of winter, we are starting to feel lighter. You may naturally crave lighter foods, and you may naturally want to clean out your house and your fridge, and your closet perhaps. It’s just a natural, energetic shift that’s happening right now…all across your life.
I want to put a little bit of attention on cleaning supplies. If you guys haven’t heard my podcast, Beauty Inside Out, please go check it out! We cover a lot of different topics. And Tony and I, who is my co-host for the beginning of the Monday podcast, we talked about how bad indoor air pollution can be.
This is something to really pay attention to, because even if we’re eating organic food and we’re using organic skincare products, but we have a lot of toxins in our home, it’s going to still introduce aging free radicals. It’s still going to really decrease the wellness in our life, and our vitality, and just keep us from feeling and being our best.
I really want us to focus now on Spring, the time to really detoxify our cleaning supplies. And there’s so many amazing natural ones to use.
The three I want to focus on today are number one… lemons. I literally squeeze the juice out of the lemons into my water and into salad dressings. I cut off the lemon rinds, and toss them into my GGS (Glowing Green Smoothie). There’s just lemons in my life all the time, and I hope there are lemons in your life too!
Making hot water with lemon. You save those rinds, and there’s still a little bit of the natural lemon juice in there, and it’s amazing for scrubbing your surfaces, for your oven tops, even inside your stove. Lemons are such a wonderful cleaning tool, and they smell so light, fresh and beautiful.
You have that citrus in your home. You can get a double bang for your buck with lemons by using the insides for inside your body and using the rinds for cleaning.
Number two, for deeper scrubbing you can go to baking soda. Baking soda is used in a lot of DIY recipes. There’s also more here on mysolluna.com, if you want to check out, I had some in Radical Beauty, my latest book. You can scrub and take some of the baking soda and mix it with water.
You can even scrub with a lemon. You can combine, you can scrub the inside of your oven, different types of surfaces, and parts of your home. It’s a really potent cleaner as well. Baking soda’s also really inexpensive.
And thirdly is vinegar. Vinegar is a great floor cleaner, once you dilute it. I also really recommend adding some essential oils to it. It’s not like the lemon. It has a little bit of a more pungent smell. If you mix it with grapefruit or orange, or your favorite essential oil, it will take that smell out — it cleans, it disinfects, it’s fantastic — and it keeps you from using toxic floor cleaner (which you do not want to use and inhale).
While we’re talking about toxic cleaners, when we’re talking about bleach, particularly Clorox and certain products like that, when it’s combined with other ingredients, it can create VOC (volatile organic compounds), which are potentially very toxic.
If you are going to use bleach, you can look for non-chlorine, chlorine-free bleach. Some companies like Seventh Generation offer that. And I do recommend using that just so we are being as clean and non-toxic as possible in our homes.
We breath in and absorb the air- and potential toxicity- in our personal home air space. We want to feel our best. It’s not just what we eat, but how we live our lives that has the biggest impact on our wellness and our beauty. And I want you to be your best Beauty. I want the best for you and to really feel and reach your highest potential.
I hope that this little reminder, perhaps, to use these non-toxic cleaning products is something you’ll check out. It’s Spring, it’s an amazing time to give it a go. And again, more DIY recipes here if you want more specific recipes on mysolluna.com.
Sending you so much love. Have an amazing rest of your day, Beauty. Take great care. Remember, you’re amazing just as you are!! Let your light shine through, and I will see you back here very soon.
Lots of love,
Kimberly
