Today’s solocast topic is: The Importance of Grounding Your Energy
This is something I didn’t really understand or focus on for a really long time. I didn’t really even understand what grounding really was. And grounding, essentially, is about being here now, being in your full power, being in your full strength and living your values, living your intentions. It’s the opposite of being spacey, flighty, and confused, or running around.
And it’s easy to feel spacey quite honestly, in today’s world with a lot of fast-paced information coming our way. We’re doing a lot of different things. We’re running around. We’re in our heads a lot. We’re on our phones a lot. You can tell when someone isn’t grounded because they’re not really there. You don’t feel that full strength and power in them.
Grounding is when we close the gap between who we want to be, what we say we believe in, in the world and really living it and being a walking embodiment of that truth. There are very specific tools and practices to help you be grounded, to ground your energy. And it’s enormously powerful. When we ground, we have the ability to create more of what we want. Whether that is beautiful relationships, a fulfilling career, the body that we want, the energy that we want and so much more.

Hey Beauties. And welcome back to our Monday solocast episode, where our topic today is The Importance of Grounding Your Energy. So, this is something I didn’t really understand or focus on for a really long time. I didn’t really even understand what grounding really was. And grounding, essentially, is about being here now, being in your full power, being in your full strength and living your values, living your intentions. So, it’s the opposite of being spacey and flighty, and confused, and running around.
And it’s easy to feel spacey quite honestly, in today’s world with a lot of fast-paced information coming our way. We’re doing a lot of different things. We’re running around. We’re in our heads a lot. We’re on our phones a lot. So, you can tell when someone isn’t grounded, they’re not really there. You don’t feel that full strength and power in them. And grounding is when we close the gap between who we want to be, what we say we believe in, in the world and really living it, living it, being a walking embodiment of that truth.
And so, there’s very specific tools and practices to help you be grounded, to ground your energy. And it’s enormously powerful. When we ground, we have the ability to create more of what we want. We manifest more of what we want, because we’re meant to be right here right now in this earth plane of existence. And if we’re not grounded, then our energy is going all over the place, and we don’t have the ability to really concentrate our energy and create whatever we want in our lives, whether that is beautiful relationships, a fulfilling career, the body that we want, the energy that we want, so on and so forth.
Fan of the Week
So, I’m really excited to get into this topic today, if you couldn’t tell. But before we launch in, I want to give a shout out to our fan of the week. And her name is Alexa M. Pena. And she writes, “I love Kimberly and her philosophy on holistic health and wellbeing. I started following her in 2012 with our glowing green smoothie. I saw such improvements in my health, energy and skin. She recently has incorporated the four cornerstones. I was drawn to them last March to build my immunity and wellness. The ancient wisdom of Ayurveda as well and rituals respond with me. Her podcast is so refreshing to listen to in the morning, while cooking or going for walks. It’s so positive. I’ve learned so much about wellness and living your highest self.” Wow.
Well, Alexa M. Pena, thank you so much for this amazing review. I really took that in. I feel it in my heart. I thank you so much, my love, for being part of our community. And I love to hear that this is resonating with you and you’re utilizing some of these practices in your life. That makes me so happy. So, thank you again so much.

Solocast
Okay. All that being said, let’s get into our topic today and really explore this whole arena of grounding. So, first of all, when you hear the word grounding, you may think about the movement towards walking barefoot on the earth and all of the research around that. And I have definitely discussed that as well on our podcast here. There is research around negative ions that are naturally given off from the earth surface, and it helps to rebalance our bodies. We are exposed to a lot of positive ions through electronics and living in the modern world.
It’s believed that actually touching the earth barefoot, whether it’s the sand or walking on the water’s edge at the beach, or on your grass, in a park, that alone will help to rebalance our bodies and can help reduce inflammation, and pain, and help us sleep better. So, that’s one aspect of grounding. And we can see the real physical benefits, the real emotional benefits of touching the earth, feeling that energy.
And what we’re talking about today incorporates that, but even goes further into how we can work to feel that grounding energy all throughout our lives, throughout our day, different junctures. We don’t have to necessarily be barefoot. Sometimes it’s great to be in nature. And I recommend being in nature as much as we can, but that’s not always possible. And at the same time, we can work through our four cornerstone philosophy to ground our energy, day in and day out, and to start to feel more grounded as we move forward in life.
When I talk about being grounded beyond earthing, or grounding and walking on the earth, I’m talking about the feeling where you’re in your body and you’re here in this moment, and you feel the presence of your energy very much right here right now.
Let’s talk about this from an Ayurvedic perspective. There are three different energies. We can call them three primary energies that are present in all of our bodies, but sometimes we each have more of a dominance in one or two of these energies typically.
There’s the vata energy, which is air, wind, akasha. Just think about this more in the upper part of your body, so to speak. So, definitely in our head, in our minds, thoughts are swirling around our head. Sometimes thoughts keep us up late at night when there’s an imbalance of this vata energy known as insomnia. Sometimes when there’s too much of this wind energy, concentrates in our colon, and we are left with constipation. So, that’s vata, imbalanced, feeling just confused, thoughts swirling around, from a digestive standpoint, constipation, feeling spacey. And this can also lead to drying out, accelerated aging, and just feeling ungrounded, just feeling anxious. Anxiety is definitely an offshoot as well.
Then there’s the energy of pitta, fire. So, this is having really strong, healthy digestion, having motivation for our tasks and our goals. And when we become imbalanced in pitta, we can become too fiery, too impatient, grumpy, right? And that can lead to things like hair loss, thinning hair, having diarrhea or erratic digestion as well. And then, so that’s concentrated, typically we can say around our belly area, so to speak, or on our Manipura chakra, the fire element is right there in our bellies.
And then there’s the third energy, which we’ll call kapha, which is the earth and water energy. And that is the lower part of our body, so our root chakra, specifically. And this is where we feel our connection to earth. Kapha dominant people, when they have a lot of that kapha energy are very steady, very stable, the people that you can count on to be really good friends that are going to show up for you when you really need them, the people that move through life, people that move through life and they’re very good at details and taking care of what is here and now. And an imbalance kapha energy can lead to lethargy, depression, slothfulness, more ease and gaining weight, more difficulty in maintaining your weight.
So, what we want to do is we want to balance all these different energies in our body. And vata energy, so think of crown chakra, think of the mind, it’s where we can receive a lot of good ideas and we can have a lot of different inspirations and insights. But if we don’t have that grounded kapha energy, which creates this polarity between these ideas coming in, and then the grounded-ness of your hips and the kapha and the earth energy, it means that ideas and intentions can just cycle in and out.
But when we work on this groundedness energy, it means that we can take these ideas and insights, and pull them all the way down and through our bodies down, energetically down into the earth. So, we become this grounded being, really. We become one that is here and now on earth. And it’s when you look into someone’s eyes and you can trust that they’re really present. They’re not up in their head. They’re not thinking about a million different things. There’s less mental chatter and there’s more simplicity. There’s more, not simple like dumb, but simple like what you see is what you get, and I’m here now and I’m in this moment, and then I’ll be in the next moment, but I’m in this eternal now.
And what it means is values and ideals that you aspire to, you start to really live them. So, if you believe and being kind, and you believe in being non-judgemental, if you believe in unity and oneness, it means that that starts being reflected through your body, through your actions, through your words, that’s what a grounded person feels like. It feels like, oh, this person is aligned from the inside to the outside. This person is, what you see is what you get.
So, there’s a great comfort that comes from that naturally in the way that we interact with others. Other people are drawn to that. It’s magnetic. You can trust it. You feel safe around it. And it feels good to you personally, because you feel aligned to your goals and your truths. You will get more confident from being an aligned grounded person, versus that erraticness I was talking about. So, it means you may channel ideas. You may get ideas. You may feel like, “Oh, I would like to be this, or I I like that ideal.” But then when it comes to living it, if we’re not fully grounded, then we’re not embodying it. So, we can just spout off ideas. We can be part of a discussion, but we’re not really living that truth.
So, it’s disconcerting, right? When you meet somebody and maybe they say certain things on social media, or say something at a party, but then the more time you spend with them, you realize, “Oh, they’re not actually really living what they say out in the world.” And it’s okay because we accept where people are and we’re all on this journey. Yet at the same time, we can sense that there’s a bit of a disconnection there. And we can also sense when someone’s really aligned, and there’s that power moving behind their actions in their words, that there is this truth that runs through all different aspects of who they are.
And so, it’s very, very powerful. And for some, for me, I didn’t even become aware of this grounded energy, or I guess, I sensed it, but I didn’t have the language. I didn’t have the vocabulary to really explain it. And now to me, I think in terms of energy, I think it’s just when someone is open, their whole spine is just open and aligned, basically the energy. So, we have this inspiration coming down from the crown, and then it comes down all the way through our throat. So, we’re speaking clearly and in an aligned way. And it comes down into our heart, and then it keeps going all the way down into the root.
So, we’re grounding ideas that come from the ether, come from God, from spirit, from the universe, whatever word you want to use. And we’re really embodying them. We’re holding the space for those energies here on planet earth, right here, right now, not up in the sky, not up in our heads, but really being right here, right now, and aligning these energies and aligning our ideas right here on this earth plane, as I mentioned.
So, this has a lot to do with understanding and tuning in, first of all, to our root chakra, which is all around our hip area. This is something that’s spoken of in yogic philosophy and Ayurvedic philosophy, and Eastern Indian philosophy in general. And so, this root chakra area is our seat of grounded-ness, and it’s associated with the element of the earth, and it’s associated with the color red.
And just having that general awareness, if you’d like to, put your hands on your hips or in your sacral area, down below your tailbone. You can move them forward and back, just to really connect to that part of your body. Sometimes we don’t really focus on this part of our body energetically. We’re always in our head. We think things. We have emotions. We analyze. And we don’t always think about how important it is to ground those ideas into that lower woof, that root chakra energy, and to live the energies down into that place. And what that does from a manifestation standpoint, from a creation standpoint, also means if you have all these great ideas and you have all these things that you want to create, but maybe you’ve had difficulty in helping them come to fruition, we need to work more in grounding.
So, let’s talk about this topic now from a four cornerstone perspective. As always, I like to take any topic, anything we’re working on, any issue, and really run it through the cornerstones. Because I know that when I’m really excited about something, when I really want to create something, when I really want something to come into balance in my life, we want to bring in all the tools, we want it to work, right? We want to be as effective as possible. And the most effective way to work is in alignment with the fact that we are whole beings, whole beings with an emotional, mental, spiritual and physical body. So, we really want to work on that level of all different aspects, instead of just one little part. If we work on one little part, then we’ll get one little way, will be partially aligned, but not the fullness of our power.
And really grounded-ness is about stepping into our power in each moment, in each day, and really saying, “Hey, I’m here. I deserve to be here. I’m showing up. Here’s the fullness of me. I am starting to wear outwardly my values and intentions, and energies on the inside.” There becomes less and less of a disconnect. I speak my truth. I act in my truth. And I’m moving forward with purpose in my meaningful and fulfilling life.
So, let’s dive into the cornerstones now, when it comes to this grounding energy that we want to bring in. But one final thing I’ll say, you can tell when someone’s grounded when you talk to them, even if you’re not using this vocabulary and they aren’t either, it’s the difference between talking to someone who’s there with you chatting away, but clearly they’re in their heads, and they’re just chatting and chatting, and they’re bouncing around different thoughts. And there’s this frenetic energy isn’t there. There’s this like, “Okay, okay.” A little bit, like when is the end of this conversation going to be, because it’s not really captivating when someone isn’t grounded.
Now, if someone’s speaking from their heart, if someone’s speaking from deep down into the depths of their being, from their roots, from their purpose, from that deeper place, you are drawn to listening to them. You’re drawn into that energy because you know it’s not just floating around on the surface. There’s depth. There’s grit. There’s rawness. There’s realness in there. There’s wisdom in there. There’s something that is valuable because it comes from a deeper, more integrated place.
And like I said, you may not use any of these words at all, but just notice when you’re talking to someone, and if you’re starting to get bored really easily, or you’re just not really connecting to what they’re talking about. Notice energetically, if they just feel really spacey to you, if they don’t feel grounded. And notice the difference of someone that is coming from that place of being really present, looking in your eyes, being with you, speaking from the depths of their soul, it’s going to be a very different conversation. Isn’t it?
Grounding your energy with our Food Cornerstone
So, let’s get into our cornerstones. First cornerstone, we’re going to talk about today is food. So, when we want to be grounded, and this was an interesting discussion that I used to ponder a lot between eating raw food and our Ayurvedic principles that I was starting to learn.
It is true that we don’t want to eat just light greens and sprouts, and fruit all day long, every day. Those foods are very high vibration. Those foods are amazing foods to add into your arsenal. Those foods are teeming with life, with enzymes, with essential fatty acids and minerals, and vitamins. They will create awakeness and the liveliness in your body because they are alive, living potent foods. They are very vata, very high vibration.
So, it’s important when we’re talking about grounding, when you look at your overall diet and you look at what you’re eating over the course of the day and over the course of the week, and you are sure to add in grounding foods to create that kapha balance. Of course, I’m talking about when you’re not doing a fast or a cleanse, normal everyday life, right?
So, the kapha grounding foods include, first and foremost, anything that is grown underneath the surface of the earth, so down, surrounded or immersed in that kapha energy already. So, I’m talking about beets and carrots, and all kinds of potatoes.
So, I’m a big potato girl myself. I know some people are scared or the carbs. But I’ve always found potatoes to digest really well so long as we eat them in simple meals, so well as we don’t combine them because they are a starch with heavy, heavy proteins, like a bunch of nuts. It’s better to eat sweet potatoes, potatoes, all kinds of potatoes just with veggies. You can eat them in a soup. You could eat them with some lentils. Sometimes that’s like the densest, I would go. But I wouldn’t pair again, sweet potatoes with almonds, or sweet potatoes with a bunch of tofu or tempe, or something like that. Respect that they are concentrated, but also there’s plenty of places and ways to work them in.
And I love tubers of all kinds. Dan Buettner, who came on our podcast, and I highly recommend listening to it, if you didn’t catch that one, he talks about, he’s the one that discovered the blue zones, the areas in the world where there’s the highest rate, much higher rate than normal of centenarians, people that live over a hundred, people that live well into their eighties, nineties with the least amount of degenerative diseases, and really amazing health by all the different measureables. He called it the blue zones because he had a blue pen and he was checking off all these different attributes in a column. And so, he looked down at his list and he said, “Oh, these like very blue cultures, I’m going to call the blue zones.” So, check out that podcast.
The reason I’m bringing it up here is one of the blue zones is Okinawa, Japan. And traditionally, I believe it was 70%, between 70% and 80% of the traditional Okinawan diet were these purple yams, these tubers that again, were so grounding, so mineral rich, so easy to digest, grown in the earth.
So, next time you’re at the market or the Farmers Market, really check out the variety of tubers available to you. And I encourage mixing them and properly food combining them. Don’t be scared of tubers. Incorporate them because they are wonderful grounding foods. And there’s such a variety of them. So, tubers, carrots, beets, anything that’s grown down underneath.
And then also denser foods like nuts, portobello mushrooms, lentils, legumes, beans, I would consider all of these, that wonderful grounding kapha energy foods that are a little bit higher in fats, even. So, when you have a coconut milk curry, which you may not be drawn to right now, but in winter, that would be a really wonderful choice. Anything that’s grounding energy like that is also going to really support you from a food perspective. How this could look in practical life is, let’s say you’re listening to this podcast and you’re saying, “Oh, I really need to ground. I’m just feeling very spacey. I feel anxious. I’m running around all the time. And I don’t really feel like I’m living my life.”
I would start the day per usual, our morning routine. This is the time we want to feel very light and full, and expansive. So, stick with the SBO probiotics, meditation, hot water with lemon, glowing green smoothie. Mid morning, you could do fruit. But if you’re wanting to ground, and you’re like me where I get very hungry by mid morning, that gluten-free wrap with avocado, with some fat, with some denser carbs is already going to give you some grounding. And that’s pretty much what I have almost every midnight.
And then for lunch, even now in the summer, you may be eating a lot of raw food. And what I was saying earlier is there was discussion around raw food, potentially being overly vata. And Ayurveda saying, you need more cooked food. You need that kapha energy, fire. Cooking things, that’s the element of fire, pitta energy. So, all these different discussions, I think it’s okay to combine both. I think it works well to combine.
So, for lunch, I’ve been having the Dharma’s Kale Salad quite a bit, and I’ll top it with lentils or tempe for lunch, or a bunch of sweet potatoes to add that grounded-ness, so that my lunch isn’t fully a hundred percent raw all the time. Sometimes I’ll add a bunch of olives, and that’ll feel good.
But now for me, since learning about grounding and knowing my body, and knowing how much I run vata, which is that tendency towards constipation, towards anxiety, towards spaciness, I like to incorporate grounded-ness at every meal. So again, morning wrap. There’s the fatty avocado. There’s the wrap itself. Lunch, I’ll add a grounding element to my Dharma’s kale salad.
And then in the middle of the day, or in the afternoon, I have a Power Protein Smoothie almost every day. And the grounded-ness there comes from the chia seeds. It comes from the nut milk. Lately, I use hemp milk or almond milk. So, there’s that element. And then for dinner, I do often have a salad, cooked veggies. And then last night I had a bowl with lentils and cooked spinach. And we did have sweet potatoes last night and rice.
So again, especially if you feel prone to vata energy, just think about working all these different foods in regularly. It doesn’t have to be perfection. It doesn’t mean every meal, every day, but over two days, let’s say 48 hours. You want to take a little inventory of your diet, and you want to make sure that you’re not just eating all greens and only fruit. Now, I say this for regular life, we’re not doing a cleanse. But it’s important that we have grounded energy, I think to just keep us here and now, keep us in our power.
Now, in the summer, I will say this not to confuse you, but I will say, I do eat more fruit than usual, so I have a higher fruit diet, but I still have some grounding foods in there. I still keep those nuts, those grains, those lentils, all of the things I just mentioned. There is still some of that on a daily basis for me, because I notice if I don’t put those grounding foods in, I can start to feel floaty. And that is not a good feeling. And that is not the place of creation and creating from our hearts. That’s a place of drifting along. So, we need that energy.
Ground Your Energy with Our Body Cornerstone
All right. Next, let’s move to our body cornerstone. So here, I think it’s really important to ground our energy with mother nature first. So, the grounding practices that I talked about earlier are very applicable, especially because it’s summer time. So, take some of your activities outside. If you love reading books like me, go outside. If you like to… We all want to eat. Eat outside on your lawn sometimes. Take your food outside. Go to the park. Meditate outside. Just be in nature. And when you can sit in nature with your hips down right on the ground, it’s a beautiful practice. When you can walk around barefoot in nature, that’s also a powerful, beautiful practice to do as well. So, really try just being outside as much as possible.
Secondly, you can also consciously arrive and ground your energy when you walk into a room, when you walk into an event, when you walk into a new space, like a party or someone’s home. And what that means is you could do it right at that moment. Or if you feel like you need a little bit of privacy, you could go to the bathroom. And what you do is you just feel the weight of your feet or your hips, if you’re sitting. You feel the connection of where you just arrived with your present physical body. And then you take at least three deep breaths. And you imagine as you’re breathing that you’re taking the energy, the prana and the life force, the oxygen into your lungs. And as you exhale, imagine that you’re pushing that energy down your hips, down through your root chakra or your legs, calves, ankles, feet, and down into the earth. So, it’s helping you to arrive fully into this here and now moment. So, try it.
We all move around a lot. Movement, travel is associated with that vata, that spacey energy. So, what you want to do is, again, just come into that new space, whether it’s your friend’s house, or it’s a conference you’re speaking at, or you’re arriving to, or restaurant, or whatever it is. And really sometimes there’s that catching moment in the brain, in ourselves where we’re just like, “What’s going on?” You’re still stuck in thoughts of what happened 10 minutes ago or your to-do list, or what you have to do later.
And what do you want to do is try that practice. Just settle in for a moment, close your eyes, or just find a quiet little space and take three breaths and push the energy down through your feet, and just allow yourself, that little personal ritual of arriving and allowing yourself to really be there, be here now. And you’re reinforcing that with the breath, you’re creating that conscious intention around it. And that’s a really big part of this too, just listening to this podcast and being aware of being grounded in your energy is already moving you forward. So, you can just start to feel that.
Start to drop down. When you do this practice, really feel that energy going down. Drop down away from that constant barrage of thoughts, that’s swirling your head, and get down into your body, get down into that deeper energy, and focus there and breathe into it, and really live from that place. And then you can continue the conversation. And you can move into the room. But notice, when you ground your energy first, how differently that feels.
Ground Your Energy with Our Emotional Wellbeing/Mental Health Cornerstone
Let’s move to our next cornerstone, which is emotional wellbeing/mental health. So, when we are embodied, when we are grounded, it means that the gap has closed or at least, largely closed between what we say we believe in, how we want to live, our ideals for life, and how we are actually living. So, it’s like the difference between, let’s say someone you may meet at your church or your neighborhood group, and they talk about being really kind and really loving, and bringing people together, but then in interactions, you notice this person is actually really snappy and actually really can be quite mean. And there’s this disconnect.
At the same time you register it and you say, “Okay, this person may not be fully grounded.” And at the same time, there’s a choice between being judgy. You could say, “Oh, this person is a fraud. They’re not who they say they are.” Or you could bring your compassion and your love to it, and you could say, “Oh, this person must be in some pain. There’s some disconnect. We’re all working on ourselves.” So, you just notice it. You notice that the full grounding isn’t there. And at the same time, you realize with compassion that it’s okay, because we’re all working ourselves. And that’s part of the journey. You may or may not be drawn to hanging out with that person more or a lot, but either way, you still don’t have to tear them down. You can be there with them and you can choose to connect with them still. Although again, like I said, it doesn’t mean you have to hang out with them all the time.
But from an emotional standpoint to be grounded means to start to slow down your reactions and to slow down the way that you respond to all the situations in your life. So, what I mean by that is, let’s say something happens where you order a birthday cake and you go to the store, you go to the bakery to pick it up, and they messed up your order, and now the cake is not going to be ready for a few more hours. So, you’re cutting it close, it’s right before your birthday party for your child or your spouse, or whatever. So, in that moment, you could feel those reactions rising up. And it’s easy to get impatient, of course. And there’s a reason here to have feelings because you did your part and you put in an order, but it just didn’t pan out.
We have the choice to be impatient and to get really angry at the person there, even though they may not have been involved at all. Or the choice is to sit back and to slow down, take some deep breaths, maybe look down at your phone, go around in your purse, rummage through, find some lip gloss to put on, anything to buy you a few moments for your amygdala and your limbic brain. All the different parts of your brain that start to react, start to calm down. And then you start to move into the prefrontal cortex and other parts of your brain, still rummaging through your purse, still taking a deep breath. And then you pick your head up, and then you stay in a connected place, “That’s a bit of a bummer because I was really counting on this cake right now. That’s a big bummer, but how can we move forward in the best possible way? What’s the best solution here?”
And so, you can still voice that your annoyance. You can still voice that there was an issue here wasn’t right, but you can still stay connected to your values. You can still stay grounded. So, this slowing down, training ourselves to not snap, not scream, not be sarcastic, immediately not be angry right away, this slowing down, allows the brain to catch up. So, when we speak out loud, when we take action, when we write an email, when we write a comment on social media, whatever we’re doing, we’re coming from an embodied place. We’re coming from our hearts. We’re not reacting so quickly that we’re reacting out of alignment, which is something that we definitely don’t want to do. And something that we can regret later.
We want to take that time to really slow down and honor that we are committed to living our best life. We are committed to living our truth. And that does require this taking a breath, again, slowing things down so that we can really move forward in a way that feels good to us, in a way that we can be proud of later.
Ground Your Energy with Our Spiritual Growth Cornerstone
All right. So, now moving to our final cornerstone, which is spiritual growth. And this is a big one. This is the biggest one of all as all our topics, because spiritual growth essentially has to do with being more aware and being more awake. And what’s more important to grounding our energy than being aware of being right here, right now, present in the first place? Groundedness is being mind, body, spirit, emotionally, all the ways we are here. You’re looking at me, I’m looking at you, I’m living what I believe in my heart. I’m not stuck in, I’m not hijacked in some trigger or program, or wound, or limited belief. I’m really here. I’m really awake. And so, that’s what spiritual growth will give you. It’s a tool. All the tools we use to create more of that awareness. And the primary tool is of course meditation, which is why I talk about it so much.
When we meditate, and if you followed our practical enlightenment meditation programs, our meditations that follow this methodology that I’ve created for you, it starts with some physical movement. Then we move into the breath. And then we focus our prana, our intention, our energy into something specific, or sometimes full general vitality, intuition, life force, whatever it is. But it’s really important that we come here into this moment, and then we feel connected to ourselves, to our energy, to the breath, and then we feel more connected to everything else.
So, meditation is the anchor for groundedness. It’s ironic because we are like, “Oh, we’re meditating.” I used to think that meditation was just being up in my crown and up all the time. And I lived from that very vata place for a long time. But now I realize we want to take all those realizations and all those inspirations, and we want to pull them down here into this earth plane, where we are embodying them and living them.
So, we’re not just feeling peaceful in our meditations when we’re sitting there, but we’re feeling peaceful more and more in our life, in our interactions, in our work, in our relationships. We feel it right here, right now. So, meditating is a very powerful way to do that. And also, throughout daily life, throughout your day, throughout your conversations, if you’re starting to feel a little bit of anxiety kick up, or a little bit of imbalance, what you want to do is you want to bring it right back to your breath. So, you want to make sure that you take some deep breaths. Or let’s say you’re in the middle of talking to someone, you can still listen to them. You can still be present, but you start to really tune in, “Am I breathing down into my belly? Am I taking my fullest deepest breaths in? Am I even here in the first place? Am I in my head?” And then if you notice that, bring it down into the body with the breath. Take a few deep breaths. You can subtly place your hands on your belly. Just come back, come back.
Sometimes we have to keep calling ourselves back, especially if we’ve gone on a tangent, we’ve gone somewhere. We’ve gone off in different directions, which obviously happens with the mind. Come back right here, right now. Take that moment, take a deep breath, a few deep breaths, and keep resetting. It’s not like we just turn a button on and we go from ungrounded to grounded, and that’s all we have to do. It’s something that we definitely want to consistently work towards, work on. And it’s a beautiful thing to just keep moving towards that, keep going in that direction, keep calling it back in until it starts to become more and more part of our natural existence. And of course, as we work on it more from this cornerstone perspective with full body emotional and spiritual practices, then we start to really live it more and more.
I know this is an interesting topic. If you’ve never really thought about grounding before, just start to really notice when you feel right here, when you feel you’re in your body, versus just spiraling off in your head. Start to notice in yourself what it feels like when you’re grounded and when you are not. Start to notice in conversations in a non-judgy way, just be open and accepting to where people are. But start to notice when someone is grounded and someone is not. And you’ll just start really tuning into it. And then it starts to become something that you start to shift in your own life. It’s very powerful when we start to do that. Awareness is the seed that really starts to allow that to come forward.
I will leave more links and information in the show notes over at mysolluna.com, other articles, some of the other podcasts, I mentioned that I think you would really like, the meditations. So, the meditations are in the free Solluna app. There’s a little, whole section. It’s very easy to use the app. If you haven’t checked it out, I think you’re going to love it.
