Question #1 around the topic of: Reduce Cravings Using The Four Cornerstones: I’ve heard you talk about your pretzel fixation before Kimberly, and wondering if you could share more on how to reduce cravings for salty, crunchy snacks and do you occasionally have a treat like this?
Kimberly: 04:21 So excited to hear what our community is wondering. And the first one comes from Sage who lives in New Mexico and Sage writes. I’ve heard you talk about your pretzel fixation before Kimberly, and I’m wondering if you could share more on how to reduce cravings for salty, crunchy snacks. And do you occasionally have a treat like this? So Sage, I love your question, love the practicality for it of it. And I will say that it’s funny that you mentioned this because last night I did have a bowl of coconut ice cream.
Kimberly: 05:13 I really like the cookie dough flavor and the chocolate Walnut brownie flavor. And I did add some, um, crushed up pretzels on top of it. So I’ll answer this first, right at the top of the show, I do have treats, and I do not think that the goal is to eliminate treats completely from your life. I’ve always emphasized to the 80 20 striving for something like 80% so that we have room for treats and cupcakes and birthday cake and indulgences. So we’re not feeling like we’re walking on this type road. Typewrite tight rope. Oh my gosh, my voice today. Sorry guys, I’ve been talking a lot. I’ve been going on a lot of podcasts to promote the book. So my voice is a little bit, um, a little bit funny right now. I apologize. I’m pulling it back in, but a hundred percent is never the goal.
Kimberly: 06:10 We do want treats. We do want to have fun in our lives. So I do have them Sage, but the difference is that in the past they weren’t treats to me, it was this sort of fixation, this addiction, this feeling like I needed them and it didn’t feel healthy. It wasn’t like, oh, this would be nice. Sometimes it was like, oh, I need this in order to shift my mood in order to feel okay in order to feel like I’m getting through this afternoon to get through my stress. So I did use a substitute for a while. I, you know, use a lot of veggies and hummus, sometimes salsa, something to crunch down on that was healthier. And I talk about this in beauty, detox power while we’re working on the deeper root, we do want to have good alternatives that we can go to in times of intense cravings.
Kimberly: 07:06 So for me, that was the crunchy, um, you know, the celery, the bell peppers and the carrots were my usual go-to. But now I’ll just say that the reason I was, I was needing those crunchy foods was to feel that crunch that, um, that chomping down on something, which is releasing tension in my jaw. We hold a lot of tension in different parts of our bodies, whether it’s in our neck and shoulders. For me, it was that clenching of my jaw. And at night I actually wear a night guard sometimes because I can crunch my teeth at night. I just not as much, but in the past I would grind my teeth. And this is indicative of held tension. So what this is indicative of, if we go keep going deeper and deeper into the layers of the onion is that I was not really processing my feelings.
Kimberly: 08:00 There was a lot of want desire to control things, and that would often come from not feeling safe, not feeling super strong in my healthy boundaries. And so I would want things outside of me to be a certain way. And when they weren’t, if someone would interrupt or things, didn’t go in my timeline or whatever it was, I would feel this building tension inside of me. So now I can say Sage that the cornerstones that are really helped me the most are the emotional wellbeing one and the spiritual growth one, because of that, I’ve been able to get to the root of seeing my tendencies, my desire to want to control things. And I have made modifications. I have shifted the way that I look at control. I’ve looked at the safety and security that comes from inside of me and anchored into that through the practical meditations that I offer through the teachings of the great yoga gurus and particularly pair Bahasa, yogananda, whose teachings I highlight in the new book, I’ve done a lot of journaling.
Kimberly: 09:07 I’ve done a lot of introspection, a lot of sitting and watching my own patterns. You know, when is it that I’m reaching for these crunchy foods? What happened? What preceded that? And when I see that, oh, it was something that I was trying to control that got out of sorts. This email came in things aren’t going my way. So suddenly this tension is building and I need this crunchy food versus, ah, I don’t need the crunchy food. Let me sit for a moment. Let me reframe this. Let me see that. I don’t actually need to control all this from the outside, but I can realize that I’m putting forth my best efforts. And notice that if it’s not going my way, it’s okay to let go. It’s okay to really take a moment and, uh, breathe and get into some of these breathing practices. Like the minding, the gaps practice that I talk about in the book. And I shift away, I start to turn on different parts of my brain when I take a pause and then I come back and I realized that I can self-sooth myself and that I really can validate myself. And so I don’t need these crunchy foods anymore because I have other tools. So I can’t wait for you to read the new book Sage. Kimberly: 10:43 So much of my energy used to be tied up and worrying about what I was eating. If I was eating too much, what my body looked like, what my food choices would do to my body. And now there’s just this beautiful flow because I’m not fixated on it because again, I’ve taken this holistic approach and, um, applied a lot of the tools and practices in my life, through the emotional cornerstone and through the spiritual cornerstone. So I encourage you to check that out. I encourage you to check out our practical enlightenment meditations, and this actually inspires me to do a new meditation on cravings, which will I will, which I will shoot in my next batch. Kimberly: 11:33 All right. My love let’s get into our second question, which comes from Hannah and Hannah lives in Colorado. And she writes when I have an urge to eat sugary foods. I’m not really sure if it’s my body needing it, or if it’s in my head, how can I know the difference so I can reduce these cravings? So Hannah, thank you so much. My love for being part of our community. Thank you for writing into me. I really appreciate you. And I’m sending a big hug out there to Colorado. So there is a natural, um, need in our body to have some sugar. And this is a teaching from Ari Vedic medicine, where we go back to the six tastes, which includes salty, um, sweet and sour. And so on. Now I said, sweet, not sugary because sweetness Madora is an actual energy that our bodies need.
Kimberly: 12:32 And this is actually a broad translation because sweetness is includes grains and includes nut milks and so on. It includes fruit, of course. So I am a big proponent of eating fruit in his whole natural form in case in, you know, the fibrous package that it usually comes in with micronutrients and macronutrients. I’m a big believer in whole grains. I do not believe we should eat a grain-free diet, especially with gluten-free grains. I do believe we eat need to eat seeds and nuts and healthy fats and this whole different bevy of holistic, holistic, wonderful foods from nature. But when it comes to sugar, we need to watch our patterns. Again, this is where awareness becomes really powerful. Is it a regular thing where we’re craving the treats, whether it’s, um, ice cream cookies, um, chocolate. And if so, I can say that our body doesn’t really need it.
Kimberly: 13:37 It is a psychosomatic. There is a psychosomatic connection. There is a psychological aspect here. Now for me, I mentioned earlier, I like coconut ice cream, but I don’t eat it every day. And I know I don’t need it. I am aware that when I am very full and busy, um, I, my body does need a little bit of soothing, even though I meditate. Even though I’m doing these practices, I will have my, let myself have a little bit of dark chocolate. And I don’t think it’s so harmful, but if it starts to be where I’m wanting, you know, sugar and chocolate during the day and in the morning and at night and all the time, then we definitely want to see what’s going on inside of us. Sugar cravings usually indicate a need for more fun, more relaxation, more soothing, more validation for ourselves. So we look to the ways in which we can give that to ourselves.
Kimberly: 14:37 Maybe we need to take more breaks, go outside, take some walks, take some nice baths, uh, make some soothing elixirs for ourselves. Maybe we need to create more stillness. Maybe we need to give ourselves a little bit of self massage, some journaling time. Seeing what we can introspect about. There certainly is a lot of journaling prompt information in the Soluna circle, which you can access on our app. You can see more information about it there because I do really believe that journaling is a very powerful tool and helping us to understand ourselves more. And the deeper we understand ourselves, the more we understand our food patterns, food is just energy. Food is really just there to nourish ourselves to fortify our bodies. But we layer so much on top of food because it has this stimulating quality of taste. And so when we’re in balanced, especially in our emotional cornerstone, mental wellbeing and health, if we are not, you know, creating stress management tools, if we are not, um, creating healthy relationships or healthy boundaries in our relationships, then we’re going to, again, overuse some of these other energies in our life, including food.
Kimberly: 15:57 So sugary food, you know, can be a treat once in a while. Sweetness in our diet means, yes, please do eat fruit. Please do drink the glowing green smoothie. Please do eat healthy grains. And, you know, nut milks like almond milk and so on hemp seed milk. But the addiction to sugar indicates that there is something off in one of the cornerstones. And I can almost guarantee it’s the emotional one. And perhaps this, the spiritual one as well. The emotional one is for many of us, you know, the, the most tricky and the most ignored along with the spiritual cornerstone. All right. My loves we’re back from the break. We have two more questions for you on this topic. And our first question comes from Brooke, who lives in Montana. Hello, Brooke, my love sending you a big virtual hug to your beautiful state where I have never been, but of course we’d love to visit one day and Brooke writes, I’m constantly in my head and now see from your recent podcasts, that it’s really about the ego. How could I remove this pole to constantly overthink things? And if I’m good enough, please help Kimberly. So I love this question being in the head, being in the ego means that we are overly identified with our five senses.
Kimberly: 18:21 So our eyes we’re constantly looking out. We’re seeing visuals, we’re on media, social media, seeing what other people are doing, seeing other people’s clothes now fits in hairs. We walk around on the sidewalk, our ears, we hear things. We hear, um, you know, conversations. We hear videos. We hear on social media. Again. Now the different mediums smell, taste, you know, food. What’s coming into our environment, touching what we see around textures. So this is how we do sense in the world. And we are not meant to ignore the census by any means because we’re having this embodied experience in the physical world, but here’s the big, but Brooke, if we over identify with those senses, if we think all we are is an all there is the only things that are important to the only things that have our value. The only ways to find success are by seeing we can see how much money people have by, you know, the things they buy and the cars they drive.
Kimberly: 19:30 And we think we are what we see in the mirror. What happens is that we will overthink and we will never feel good enough because there’s always more and more and more for us to compare ourselves to. And more and more, more that other people can have more than us, more achievements, more followers, more, um, material things, more trips, more vacations. So what we really need to do in order to balance what you’re calling your head, your thoughts, the ego, all of that is of the ego is to balance our practices between outer and inner. So our morning practice does include making hot water with lemon, drinking the glowing green smoothie, and also having our SBO Solulna probiotics, which are the best ones out there by the way, to really nourish our gut health and our moods and our energy from the inside out. Those are physical practices that are very important for living in the world.
Kimberly: 20:31 But at the same time, you need to meditate. Brook try our meditations, our practical nightmare meditations, which are really about seven minutes. We need to do that so that we can really anchor in breathe, feel our bodies, feel our breath before we get on social media. Before we make any food choices, before we send emails back, we want to have a flow. We want to have a connection to this deeper energy inside of us before we start going out and performing and doing right. So beyond the ego is the true self is the intuition is the voice, the energy of the heart. So we connect with that before we go out. And then we have a deeper place we are moving with. Um, moving from, we are more connected to our source of knowing this powerful, infinite energy inside of us. So knowing beyond a shadow of doubt, more and more, even though we dip in and out, we know that we’re more than enough because we are a unique creation of spirit each and every single one of us, our confidence comes from that.
Kimberly: 21:42 Knowing it comes from that. I am that I am statement. I simply am here. I am good enough because I am alive and I’m breathing. And I am unique. So we remove the pull of over evaluating, over thinking because we meditate first, before we step into the jungle of the world and other people’s opinions and what people are doing, we anchor in this is an essential part of our self-care. It’s an essential part of our daily routine that we never ever want to forego. I do not miss my morning meditations you guys, because I know the difference in myself. Talk in my energy in my world as I move through the day, if I meditate and if I don’t meditate and believe me, I want to be in that meditative day, because if I skip it, my whole day feels very, very off. So try Brook really seriously prioritizing your meditations in the morning.
Kimberly: 22:43 And even in a busy life, you can carve it in. You can make it part of your daily world and it will shape your whole morning. It will shape your whole day. It will really influence everything, including your thoughts, including your interactions. It’s very powerful. When we come from a more rooted place, people will feel it. People will be drawn to you. More people will, um, want to offer you more opportunities. It’s very practical because we can say the right things, but people really do feel energy. So it comes down to exuding a different energy. And that only can shift when we spend time with our inner energy in meditation, in effective meditation, which is, which is what I’m so powerful about sharing in those practical enlightenment meditations, which are inspired and based on the teachings of the great yoga group, Paramahansa Yogananda. He teaches us to settle the body, to get into the breath and to merge the limited consciousness.
Kimberly: 23:50 Exactly what you’re talking about here, Brooke, with the, I am the all pervading consciousness, the voice of the true self, the expanse of energy, which is really, really powerful, really where we want to be in our meditations in our lives. We want to feel expansive energy because when we get stuck in, I’m not enough, you know, automatically broke that you are identifying with the ego and that’s not where we want to play. That’s not where we want to live life. We can see, we can make shifts. We can be inspired to grow, but we do not want to over identify with the ego. And the more and more we live from this deeper embodied place with the practices and the meditations that part of our life opens up energetically and everything starts to shift outwardly. So I can’t wait for you to get to get for you to get deeper into your practice and for you as well. Brooke, I cannot wait for you to read the new book. This is my playbook. This is how I personally shifted from being very insecure, very anxious, very over identified with the ego. Although I would not have used that terminology 10 years ago. Now I understand why I suffered so much and why I was struggling so much. So I’m here to tell you my love. It does not have to be that way. Check out these perspectives and practices, which will shift your identifying and you will, life will open up more and more for you.

Kimberly: 25:19 All right. My loves let’s get into our last and final question in this wonderful topic, reducing cravings using the four cornerstones. And this one comes from Shiloh who lives in Wisconsin. Hello? My love sending you a big warm hug out there. I imagine it’s starting to get colder and colder and Shiloh writes. I really hate to admit this, but I seek attention. I’ve been told I interject way too often and make everything about me. I want to change, but how have you ever dealt with anyone like this? Shiloh? My love, I absolutely love the heart, the authenticity, the vulnerability of your question. And I congratulate you love because this is so wonderful that you’re able to introspect and to see that this is a very real thing in your life. And to admit it because we don’t want to admit our shadows. Sometimes we don’t like to seem to talk about the parts of us that we don’t really like to admit, but there is a chapter in the book called your whole, and this is about how we integrate our moon aspects and our sun aspects.
Kimberly: 26:28 The sun aspects are where we love to say, oh, you know, I’m a good listener. I’m a good friend. I am spiritual, or I am patient or whatever we want to see. And we like to see, so we write that down and in the practice, we then go into lunar aspect. So to speak the moon, the shadow side, oh, if I sit and I do this practice, I can see that I can actually also be impatient. I can be narcissistic. I can be selfish. I can be judgmental. And then this chapter, I teach you that when we start to look at these lists, we start to look at these qualities side by side. We can start to integrate them into one ness inside of you. And we start to move past the shame, the limiting, the very limiting, uh, energy of shame that we can hold onto, which shows up in the back of our head when we’re having a meeting or an interview or first date or wherever we are.
Kimberly: 27:28 And we say, oh, yes, I’m a good person. Or, you know, I love this and this, but there’s a nagging part of us that says, yeah, right. But I also yelled at my mom yesterday, or I know I’m not good because I think I’m narcissistic, whatever it is. It’s a, it’s a big anchor that holds us down. It’s a big weight, not anchor in the positive sense, but it keeps our vibration down. It keeps our self-esteem down. It keeps us from manifesting in creating our best stuff in the world. So what we want to do is we want to learn to integrate these parts of us into the one wholeness that we are. And then we can step forward with authentic power, not the egoic power of looking at me. You know, when we’re in the conversation, we have to say, oh, you know, I have this opinion or I’ve done these things that just comes from the limited wounded ego.
Kimberly: 28:19 And that is not coming from a powerful place. So Shiloh, I cannot wait for you to read the book. You know, I bring this up because I am like a race horse that is being corralled. But you know, waiting to race out, waiting to share these teachings with you. This is the first time that I’m sharing them. And this book is unlike any other book that I have ever written. So I’m just dying, dying to send it out into the world and to share it with you. I, um, I can wait. So that being said, let’s talk about, um, the, the making things be about you just means that you have a need to be seen and to be heard. And that is, um, a common one. When we have grown up, perhaps we in our setting or childhood, or we’ve adopted the belief that, you know, we need others outside of us to see us.
Kimberly: 29:20 And so it doesn’t mean you’re a bad person. It doesn’t mean that you are inherently a narcissist, but it means that these narcissistic tendencies of making it be about us just means that we want to be seen. And so I have dealt with people like this Shiloh and what it means is we need to see ourselves. We need to understand that whatever belief we adopted, that it, other people make it. So other people validating our, seeing us make us actually legitimate in the world is a misunderstanding. We can see ourselves, we can Sue ourselves. We validate ourselves. We show up for ourselves. So this comes from deep self realization, more and more deep self-connection this means you must start to connect with your true self, which is this formless stable part of you. It is spirit inside of you, spirit inside of you. This connection will give you all the validation you’ve ever wanted.
Kimberly: 30:24 All the love, all the recognition, all the reasons we’re seeking it from outside. It means that we haven’t yet created the connection from the inside. So this comes from meditation and Shiloh in this podcast. I’m also inspired to create a brand new meditation inspired by you specifically, my love for, um, seeing this validation from the inside. I validate myself. And so know that when that comes out in the next few weeks, you have, you have inspired it. In the meantime, I encourage you to check out I am the true self meditation in our practical enlightment meditations. Because just as, um, you know, I was speaking about with Brooke, this is really just a, this is a symptom of over identifying with the ego on the outside. So when we do that, we’re seeking, we feel like we have to interject more in conversations. We interrupt, we speak up more.
Kimberly: 31:25 We want our opinion to be heard because it goes back to me, me, me, see me, hear me. It’s a desperate cry of the wound itself of the inner child wanting to be seen and loved. And so the antidote is to feel that love that is always available to us from the inside. We nourish the inner child from the inside. We seek connection to that deep soothing love from the inside. So please meditate morning and evening. It’s the most powerful thing you can do my love to heal this, try our meditations or any that resonate with you. And secondly, my love, I would just be aware of the patterns to start to watch yourself in conversation, start to feel in your body, this speeding up of your heart or this, you know, this jumpiness of like this urgency, almost like a food craving. There’s a, there’s a cravenness of wanting to interject.
Kimberly: 32:25 And that comes from, you know, wanting people to see you again and sit with that. Why do I feel like other people have to see me? Why does that make it feel like it is more real or more valid? And the answer is it isn’t more real or valid. Whether people say it or not, you know, your own truth and you become more connected to your own truth when you sit in that connection of the true self. So that is why the meditation in the morning, but particularly for you, my love are so important. So thank you so much. My love for this beautiful question. Kimberly: 32:25: All right. My loves it is time for our quote of the week. I have pulled this from you, for you, from the new book, you are more than you think you are.
Kimberly: 33:19 This is on page 97 in chapter eight, you are peace. And this quote comes of course, from Paramahansa, Yogananda, who writes retire to the center of your being, which is calmness. Now this quote means the center of your being. There is a sanctuary. There is a resource inside of us that is portable. We carry it with us day in and day out is always there for us. And this is the true self energy inside of us. We can all contact it. It is unique to each of us at the same time it’s inside all of us. It is your intuition. It is your heart. It is the stable place beneath the choppy surface. So deep down underneath there, you can tune in. You can find that part of you. And when you start to feel that you’re too much in your ego, when you’re doubting yourself, when you’re questioning yourself, when you’re feeling overstressed and anxious, just say, ah, I’m too, over a 10 to five of the ego.
Kimberly: 34:27 Let’s take a pause, take a breath, do a mini meditation, but your hand on your heart and on your belly. And just take a few deep breaths and remind yourself that you have the inner resource of the true self connect to there. Go deeper. You can always go deeper. It just takes a few deep breaths connect back in, and then everything starts to become more clear. Clarity, emerges, intuition emerges more energy, emerges, true power, emerges, true beauty, emerges, speak from that place and notice how your life changes. Notice how your work changes. Notice how your relationships change. Notice how more will start to come to you in this very organic flow. And there’s also a chapter in the book that I can’t wait for you to read called you are magnetic. And here’s where I teach you to amplify your ability to draw more to you.
