Hey Beauties,
I hope you’re having an amazing week so far. Today, in our blog, I want to talk about some tools and tips for you to avoid the flu. Or, if you’re feeling a little bit run down, if you feel like something’s coming on, you can really help to boost your immunity and strengthen yourself so we continue to feel our best, each and every day!
So, the first thing is that the wind is picking up. There’s a lot of cold. This is an Ayurvedic teaching, as well. We want to really protect our throat chakra area, our windpipe and throad region. So, scarves are a must. Sometimes when I’m driving around, or I go out, I see all these girls in their cute little night outfits, and it’s freezing outside, and I know maybe they don’t want to mess up their outfit, but their chest and their neck are totally exposed.
And when we do that, we really do run the risk of putting our immunity in a very strained position. It’s not great when we’re trying to keep the flu at bay. So, make sure to get some cute scarves, to wear them out, to wear them every day, and just to keep this area nice and warm, and strengthened from the wind, and from the elements.
The second thing, speaking of heat, comes from of course, our immunity tea, which is right here on the website. It’s very, very simple. Keeping this immunity tea going in your life, consistently, when you start to feel something coming on, is an amazing self-care practice.
So, basically you’re going to heat up hot water. You’re going to put in some lemon juice after you heat the water. Don’t heat up the lemon juice because part of it is the vitamin C and enzymes, which can become denatured in heat and hot water. So, you’re going to pour the lemon juice in.
Actually we add the ginger FIRST, in the hot water, two to three minutes. Fantastic for your metabolism, as well as warming the body, helping to burn out bacteria, bring your body back into balance. It feels great to have ginger. So, you would do ginger steeped.
Then, you would pour in the lemon. You could put a little bit of cayenne pepper. And then, if you want to add a little bit of immunity boost, Manuka honey is fantastic. You want to make sure it’s organic. And, of course, ethically sourced, from a beekeeper that loves his bees, and takes great care of them, and the bees are treated well. I do use bee products, even though I don’t personally consume any other animal products.
If you’re comfortable using honey, you can also add a bit of Manuka honey to the elixir as well, which is fantastic for immunity, sweetens this nice elixir. You can have it a couple times a day, in the morning. Instead of your hot water with lemon, you could have this, a little bit more fortified mix. You could also have it in the afternoon, or in the evening. If you feel something coming on, or you are in fact, a little bit sick, I would recommend having it three times a day. It’s really, really fantastic.
There’s some natural oils out there. You guys should try listening to some of our podcasts with Charlynn Avery. She talks a lot about different essential oils, which help with immunity, and help to clear the space. So, I recommend listening to those podcasts.
Also, I’ve been reading a little bit of oil of oregano, which is a really interesting oil. Traditionally, we’ve heard it used to combat candida, but it’s also really great for immunity, in different ways. So, you could try incorporating some oil of oregano into your regiment.
I’m also a huge proponent, when you’re sick, you have to rest. You have to really up the sleep hygiene. So, here’s where we really want to blackout curtains, and lights, and blinking lights. Put your phone in airplane mode. Take a nice warm shower before, practice your evening routine, all the different sleep hygiene techniques that we talk about in Radical Beauty, and also, some articles here on the website. Sleep is so, so important. Sleep is how you really gain strength, and your body can rejuvenate, and really help to fortify your immunity this way.
So, this is extra time to really pay attention to our sleep, to say “No” to some events, or get-togethers when you just know that you’re body needs to chill. It’s just going to be better for you, better for everyone, if you stay nice and healthy. And then, you can of course, enjoy more social time later.
So, these are a couple of my ideas, a link to some of the recipes, the Detox Tea is here, as well as some other great fantastic recipes to support yourself. Remember to stay nice, and snugly, and warm, and to rest.
I hope you have a nice, healthy, happy, rest of your day. And I will see you back here very soon.
Lots of love,
Kimberly
Where do you source organic Manuka honey? I’m finding a lot of raw Manuka honey, but not organic. Thanks!
Hi Jaclyn and thanks for your great question. I know it can be challenging to source Manuka honey…here is a starting place: https://amzn.to/2sHhPeI Take a look around and try to go based on the Unique Manuka Factory’s grading system to help narrow it down for you. Here is their website: https://www.umf.org.nz Lots of love to you! ;)
