Kimberly: 00:01 Hi, loves and welcome to our Monday interview podcast. I’m very excited for our special guest today. Her name is Maryn Azoff and she is the founder of vocal transformation. This incredible method that blends modern science with ancient wisdom to unlock our full expression and the potential of the human voice wanted to share her with you today because I have worked with her for a couple of sessions. We were connected through a mutual friend and I had to do so much talking over the past few months with podcasts and you know, everything around this using book launch and doing the audio book, reading the book. And when I started to work with her, I realized that there’s so much that we take for granted in our voice, in our ability to express. And Maryn’s work is really about embodying who we are, our authenticity, our power, and allow that to come through our expression.

Interview with Maryn Azoff
Kimberly: 00:00:00 Oh, man. It’s great to be reconnected. It is a couple weeks since we’ve seen each other, you were over at my house. We were doing some work together. We were hanging out and now you’re down in Costa Rica.
Maryn: 00:00:13 Yes, we are doing, bringing vocal transformation to Costa Rica. We run retreats throughout the entire winter.
Kimberly: 00:00:19 Yeah. Oh, incredible. Well, I feel very connected to tropical spaces as well as you know, we got a place in Hawaii. I was just there for three weeks and there’s something about all the, the greenery, you know, you and I talk about the chakras a lot and the, you know, just the color, the vibration, it feels so nourishing to the heart. Do you, do you find that too?
Maryn: 00:00:42 Yeah, I mean here, uh, the, the philosophy of life is pu, right? Mm-hmm <affirmative> and it’s all about the green world and Green’s the color of the heart chakra. So when you have like Hawaii, I’ve seen those pictures. I love the life you’re living. Um, the, the green and the blue are that’s the color of the throat chakra and the heart chakra. It’s like expression of love is coming through the water that creates the green world around us.
Kimberly: 00:01:07 Mm. So I was introduced to your work through a friend of a friend and, or no, a friend actually, who, you know, went to workshop of yours through her friend. I think, you know, that’s how the chain was. And she told me about you. And I was like, huh, that’s really in think, because I had never done any sort of specific voice coaching or work with my voice and you know, I’m not a singer or anything, but then you and I connected and I thought, whoa, you know, this is really interesting, your approach to voice and expression. Um, you know, it’s, it’s so rich and there’s so much in it, so, um, let’s get right into it. My love just right here, right now we do on the spot.
Maryn: 00:01:48 Okay.
Maryn breaks down what vocal expression is
Kimberly: 00:01:49 Can you explain to us what, uh, you know, really what is in, you know, in the deeper sense, cuz we take it for granted, we speak all day, you know, we kind of just, you know, idle chatter. Sometimes we, we don’t really, um, honor the voice so much again, we just take for granted, but really what is this, you know, this deeper perspective of, um, vocal expression that you can, um, share with us.
Maryn: 00:02:12 So the human voice is the soul’s dynamic life urge for truthful expression. Hmm. And it’s the very first X thing you exercise when you come into the world. And I think this point is just really important to make the very first thing you’re responsible for when you enter the earth solely responsible for is breathing in your first breath. Hmm. So you come into the world and you inhale breath. So what is breath? Breath is your spirit. Breath is the ethereal aspect of you. It’s the chronic life force that really drives the majority of your life processes. We have many masters, as I know you and I have, uh, similar lineages who have proven that, where science tells us that, you know, you have to eat and drink certain amounts of liquid and all of that, that breath alone and certain breath practices can actually change that truth, right?
Maryn: 00:03:08 Like you can get the majority of your chronic life force from your breath. So breath is spirit. And when you first come into the world, you breathe your spirit into your body. That is the first act as a human being. You have to pull with that first breath, your spirit all the way in. And then that wakes up your body’s intelligence. So the earth and the spirit combined, and when that wakes up, what’s the very first thing we do. We cry. We cry. Yes. And up until recently, if you’re born without, if you don’t cry, the doctors would hit you or do something to try to make sure you could cry. Yes. Cause at the deepest level, yeah, <laugh> exactly. They would smack you on the butt, right? Hmm. Because at the deepest level of human consciousness, this expression is of the utmost importance. And at that age of your life, you don’t cry because you’re sad.
Maryn: 00:04:09 There’s not an emotional thing going on there, you cry because of need, you need to express the feelings, right? So when you’re first an infant and you’re crying, you’re crying because you’re hungry, you’re crying cuz your diaper needs to be changed. You’re crying because you’re sick, you’re uncomfortable. You’re hot, you’re cold. You need to be held by your mother. You need the heartbeat, the, the giving life heartbeat that you’ve been living in for nine months. Right? It’s um, it’s a deep need. That is a, a literal survival need. And you have to express your voice and then hope. Hopefully you are in a loving, nurturing environment where that expression is responded to. Right? Mm-hmm <affirmative> mm-hmm <affirmative>. And, and if it’s not, that could lead to a lot of different traumas, which the vocal transformation work actually works through. But that this human voice that we have is way more than just sound that we make right. In the ancient VEIC text, they talk about the human voice as unmanifest form. Mm. It is, it is written that the human voice within it and the, the vibrational frequency that the voice holds actually has the power of creation. Yes. Yeah. So what we speak or chant or sing or express will actually collapse into physical form and create the world around us. Yes. So within our, oh, go ahead. Oh,
Kimberly: 00:05:31 I was gonna say love it’s it’s interesting. When you go back into the Bible and um, in the old Testament where it talks about the relationship between the VI vibration of sound and the vibration of light and, and just like this very, um, like the, the, the core, the, the Genesis of creating anything, creating any outward form comes from that. And like I said, we in everyday life, we do take it for granted our ability to speak and to put words out there. But like you said, there’s a really deep sacredness in our voice and in this way of expressing ourselves.
The superpower of your voice and what happens when you hold back…
Maryn: 00:06:06 Yes. And if we understood as a human race, the superpower that it is, uh, what potential it actually holds, I think we would respect it and how we use it so much more. And I also think we would be less shy about it. You know, I work with people and how there’s so many blockages with how we’re raised and how we have to edit and manipulate our expression to fit in or to feel validated or to, to be okay when really the human voice is just the soul trying to express its experience. And the importance of that is, is that the perspective of every single one of our soul’s journeys is so important for all of us. So when we have humans who are editing or holding back and are not, and feel self conscious and feel unable to be 100% authentically in their experience, this is where the ego really takes over and starts to create a lot of the mess that we create as a human race. And I
Kimberly: 00:07:03 Find it, it’s not just, you know, fear of speaking our truth, like what we’re actually, you know, wanting to say. But also I notice that, you know, a lot of people manipulate their voice in different ways. Sometimes it’s like baby voice, because you’re not really like comfortable asking for what you want, or there’s like any voices that people make, what is that about what’s going on?
How your voice is an imprint of where your soul can and cannot enter your physical form
Maryn: 00:07:29 So we can start with, um, the natural voice that you have without manipulating it. Although it’s been manipulated to be what it already is, the, but even if you’re not doing anything consciously about it, your voice is an imprint of where your soul can and cannot enter your physical form. Your body in its entirety is the instrument of your voice. The majority of the world is speaking from vocal chords, nose and face. They’re not really resonating all, all the way through the body. And what’s interesting about the work, the vocal transformation work is that since yes, we talk about the shocker system. A lot, each of those shockers is a resonator of your voice. Each of those shockers is holding psychological development, physical development, emotional development. And so as we go through your, your history of, from birth until where you are now, and what has made you the personality, the, the self that you have structured, we start to see where inside the body, your voice does not travel to like what, what muscles don’t you use to support your voice and thusly your soul, yourself, your journey, but really it’s about where in the body does this resonant sound travel through.
Maryn: 00:08:40 So I, I always use the example of like, we have this, the nerds or the super intelligent people of the world, right? So they spend the majority of their time in books, reading, they spend the majority of their chronic energy in their upper cognitive brain, right. In the upper portion of their body. And so for that, the voice tends to go up here, right? Like we hear nerdy voices. We would call it like that, that nasally voice, nerdy voice, but really what your body is responding to is the fact that the majority of your energy is moving towards your head, where some who speaks down here in the bottom of their body and has like lower vibration might be more integrated in their physical form. They might be more of an embodied person. I think of like, you know, like blue collar workers who might be more like in the body with like deeper, richer voices. You know, I, don’t nothing bla plenty of highly intelligent blue collar workers. It’s not a general. Um, but just people who are more in their body and using their body might have voices that are dropped in. Right. So from anybody that go ahead,
Kimberly: 00:09:45 How are we like, what’s the balance? Like how, how is the healthiest way for our voice to come through?
We discuss the healthiest way for our voice to come through
Maryn: 00:09:51 It’s exactly the way that yoga teaches. It’s a fully body. The human being has three brains. We have a gut brain, an umbilical brain, which is our embodied center right at the first, second and third cha, as I would say, then we have our emotional brain, which is our heart chakra, our throat chakra. And then we go up into cognitive brain, which is our third eye crown, right? So we have three brains that are functioning to make us a fully integrated human being. And we wanna have all of those BA oh, those brains in balance. And when you have all of those aspects of yourself fully realized your voice will travel through your entire system and you’ll be able to express yourself authentically, creatively, emotionally, also intellectually. And also, um, you know, uh, I would say like, I wanna say tribal, but like instinctually instinctively going into like our physical embodiment and being able to express the true experience we’re having versus what we’d rather be going through, or, you know, the thought processes, stress, anxieties, those are all living up in the, in the upper portion of our being. But our embodiment gives us a true traction into the present moment and then gives our soul’s ability to express how it’s authentically feeling right now.
Kimberly: 00:11:11 So for anyone listening, um, and my, for myself, what are the clue or what would you look for to know that you’re, you know, fully integrated in your voice versus being stuck in one of those three centers? Like how do we know if we’re fully an integrated balance?
How to know if you’re fully integrated and balanced in your voice
Maryn: 00:11:31 Okay. So one thing would be your throat. It, it does your throat get tired over prolonged periods of talking, right? If you’re someone who gets like a lot of vocal fatigue or somebody who gets, who’s stuck there, lots of sore throats and things like that, then you know that you’re not really using your full body to speak or to sing or to chant or whatever your, your vocal practices might be. You don’t want your voice to come from your throat. You want it to come from your full body. And that includes a lot of support muscles in the whole vessel, right? So, um, that would be one sign that your voice is not fully integrated and that’s a very physical sign. The other would be your reactionary response, like your timing and your, your reactions. The mind is very fast. It’s holding a program and it knows the program very well.
Maryn: 00:12:21 And it doesn’t really want the program to look any different than what it knows cuz in what it knows, it feels safe. So even if it’s not happy there <laugh>, it feels safe there. Right. Um, but the, the response time is a very good tell because when you’re in your body, you’ll take a breath. You’ll assimilate. Then you’ll respond when you cut off what other people have to say all the time. And you’re constantly like, you’re very, very, very, very fast <laugh> right. That’s a really good sign that the majority of your energy is up in your mind and not in your physical body because the physical body will need to absorb everything and then process it and respond accordingly
Kimberly: 00:13:04 That, okay. So that makes sense from a, you know, a frequency or, or a pace level rather. But what about in the actual tone of our voice? You know, you were talking about nasal versus lower. Is there like a middle tone or that we should be looking for? I mean, obviously people have different. Oh, of course. Different voices in general. Yeah. So which is
Maryn: 00:13:25 The largest resonator of the human voice is in the heart. There’s no mistake in this. This is not a, it’s not a coincidence. <laugh> the heart chakra is the center of the human being. So what we’re looking for in a fully resonant voice is a voice that’s supported at the lower body. And that moves up towards the heart center and is expressing through the heart center. It’s using information from the cognitive brain, from above and it’s information from below. And it’s moving towards the center of the being. If you look at the chakra system, the chakra system is literally built as three chakras above the heart, three chakra below the heart and it comes into culminate at the center. So of course the largest resonator of the voice is gonna be sitting right there. So what you’re looking to have as a voice that is supported at the base level of your being,
Kimberly: 00:14:24 what do you mean express by itself, through its heart? What do you mean by supported?
Maryn: 00:14:25 So there are major muscles. Yeah. That support the human voice. And they are down at the bottom of the body. They’re the, peroneum the Rhus of Dom and the Oly weeks, the three main muscle groups of the first, second and third chakra. And those muscle groups when utilized correctly are supporting the amount of airflow that’s coming in and leaving the body and supporting the tone of your voice. Mm. When people come to me with singing issues, with like pitch problems, the majority of their problem is in their lack of support, not in their actual ability to hear a pitch.
My personal experience in working with Maryn
Kimberly: 00:15:01 Interesting. And now when we started working together, I was having difficulty taking really big breaths or, you know, like this really big, um, like we were doing some of these speaking exercises. So I can’t remember when you said that was so my muscles weren’t strong enough. Right? Isn’t that what it was
Maryn: 00:15:21 Well right. But also typically there’s trauma involved in that. So to hold yes, something will, something might have happened to you somewhere, but between two and seven years old, which is when the majority of our early childhood trauma is sitting in our body, in this area where you can’t now access the diaphragm properly. So something triggers you. I don’t know. Uh, if you remember a time where you had a shock that made you, like you hear, you know, children a lot, they cry so hard if they can’t catch their breath. Mm. It happens to adults too, when we’re in major anxiety moments. Right. But when it happens really young, when something traumatizes you and it doesn’t have to be anything horrible, right. It doesn’t have to be abuse. It could be as simple as you’re in a department store and you can’t find your mother for 10 minutes.
Maryn: 00:16:08 Right. It could be something so, so simple. It could act actually be as simple as your toy gets taken from you when you’re very young and you’re upset by the fact that your toy was taken from you. It does, this does not have to be major trauma, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t actually sit in your body as such, because when those tears trigger this inward pulling this like feeling right, <affirmative>, it ends up locking these muscles in place and then you’ll catch your breath and you’ll come back to stasis, we’ll say, but you never actually fully get re embodied. And that becomes your new norm. Hmm. So for many, many years you could be breathing just with the upper portion of your lung and sucking in, right? Like there’s another hole aspect to that, which is we’re taught as a society to suck in, to hold in, like to, to be fit, to be thin to pull those muscles up. Yeah,
Kimberly: 00:17:04 Yeah. Does suck in your, your belly for photos.
Maryn: 00:17:08 Exactly. Like suck the belly button, which, well, you have a great Abdo. You then there’s, there’s um, this ability of like, or this, this teaching that we have to be really tight in our midsection. And yes, that is true for spinal health. We want good strong AB abdomen, but we also want relaxed and open and expressive and expansive bells too. There are muscles that push out and express just as much as suck in and hold in. Right. So we need all of those muscles to be activated, which means we need to be able to, uh, relax into our bodies and actually settle in.
Instinctual breathing and what a healthy version of taking breaths looks like
Kimberly: 00:17:47 So when we’re sitting here, you know, any of us listening to this and we are, um, you know, just in our normal breath, what is it? The explain to us, please love in detail, the, the healthy version of taking, taking breaths. You know? Cause sometimes it’s hard to know, like what’s really relaxed, what’s tight. Mm-hmm <affirmative> like how supposed to, how am I
Maryn: 00:18:09 Supposed to breathe?
Kimberly: 00:18:11 It’s you know, the basic function. And I know this of course leads, you know, it’s supported by parlays into the voice, but just this normal, um, or here I’m, you know, I’m sitting here talking to you and you know, we have done some work together. So I think, oh, you know, my relaxed all the way, Down’s the breath coming down into my belly. <affirmative> you know, sometimes it’s just like you overthink it or
Maryn: 00:18:31 Like what’s going on. Oh, exactly. <laugh> so what do I, the over supposed to do overthinking it is insane because the very, that very first breath you took when you were born, you knew how to do this. Right? So what’s incredible is that we have trained ourselves out of what is our instinctual natural way of breathing. And our mind is taking everything. And this is all indicative of coping mechanisms of things that we came across in our life that are really difficult that our mind wants to cope with. So it pulls all the energy away from the earth up towards the head. And so the natural breath down to the earth, the natural breath is a DIAP formatic breath that moves all the way down into the body and then pulls your spirit from crown down to the earth. And do you know why we do that?
Maryn: 00:19:23 We do that because the earth actually needs our spirit on this planet. Mm. And she wants to activate the entire body. And what is the body? The body is the earth. Right? So let me walk you through the anatomy of the breath, which yes is, it is it’s the basic way we breathe. And there are many people who are listening to this, who might know this, but there are many people who might not really understand, like the breathing mechanism. Like we have lots of proma exercises and lots of ways to channel our breath in different ways. But what does a normal, relaxed breath look like? Like what does our natural yes. Unaffected breathing mechanism, right? The very first breath you took when you were born and that you breathed until something triggered a shift, right? That is a DIAP formatic breath. So you inhale through your nose and your diaphragm presses all the way down.
Maryn: 00:20:23 And so what that feels like is your belly comes out, your waist comes out, maybe even your low back feels like it comes out and all of your energy moves towards the earth beneath you. So everyone at home listening, maybe you wanna try to see if you can do this right now, take a deep breath in and see if you can get your belly to drop, open your ways to drop open and everything, to move down towards the ground. Cuz you might feel that it’s stuck somewhere around your solar plexus. You might feel that like you, you you’re stuck at the throat or at the chest, you might feel tightness, right? So it takes down there
Kimberly: 00:20:56 And down and wide
Maryn: 00:20:58 Down and wide. It’s almost, I always describe it as like filling a water balloon mm-hmm <affirmative> right. Imagine that you’re breathing in and your body is filling like a water balloon. It like opening like a sack. Right? So what’s happening here is the diaphragm, which is an M shaped muscle group that connects between where the, the two rib cages come together at the solar plexus. It comes up underneath the bottom two ribs and then connects as an M wood at the pelvis. So it’s one muscle group that acts as a plunger <laugh> and it pushes down during the, the act of breathing and underneath those bottom two ribs where it was resting, sits a, the lower quarter, little less than quarter of your lung. So if the diaphragm doesn’t move that portion of your lung, doesn’t fill with air. Instead, what you get is your diaphragm stays put, and your breath moves to the upper portion of your lung. And that would look like when you breathe in, your shoulders are lifting. So everyone breathing at home, if your shoulders are lifting up yeah. Then you know that you’re not getting your diaphragm fully down instead you’re utilizing the upper portion of your lung to breathe, which is our stress breath. This is the breath that we were given when we have to run out of the burning building or when we have to run from the ex murderer. Right? Yeah. And we’re in stress and we need very fast, quick spurts of air. Right.
Maryn: 00:22:30 But we, when we don’t move the diaphragm, we actually breathe that way all the time, which sends a signal to our body that tells us that we’re stressed. Yeah. Even when we’re not. So we go into fight
Kimberly: 00:22:41 Or flight, even low grade levels.
Maryn: 00:22:43 Exactly stress
Kimberly: 00:22:45 All the time.
Maryn: 00:22:46 And it sends off a lot of different whole hormones and chemicals, cortisol being one. So there’s a big thing around weight loss around this too. Cuz cortisol makes you hold weight. And so there’s a, there’s a big, uh, theory around breathing, being able to burn your fat away, you know, because literally you are sending signals when you’re breathing incorrectly throughout your body. Yes.
Kimberly: 00:23:10 Yes. I mean, I just think like, you know, moment to moment, all the different energies, you know, here we talk about the four cornerstones food body and everything beyond food. So including the breath would be embody emotional wellbeing and spiritual growth really influence our health, our vitality, our weight, all these things. Moment to moment. It’s not, you know, one F thing like the food is causing the belly fat or you know, whatever it is, it really is everything working together. So thank you for bringing up this aspect of the breath. Also being, playing a partner,
Maryn: 00:23:43 Oh the breath is primary primary. Like what we’re walking through right now. I always tell people when they start their program with me, it’s like, if the, if all you get from me is this change. You’ve gotten everything. You’ve gotten your money’s worth from me. You’ve gotten everything. Cause it will awaken who you really are just by waking up your breath, right? Because breath is your spirit and your body having a connection, talking to each other and trusting what comes out of that union is your own consciousness. This is what we’re here on earth to do. Hmm. Right? So the let’s go back into the breath. So the um, the breath that moves up that stress breath is feeding the mind. It’s feeding the thought process, sees the head, the busy maker, the monkey part of us, right? The one that’s like doing, doing, doing stressing, thinking, planning ahead, looking behind like all that mind.
Maryn: 00:24:33 Mental chatter. When we breathe up, we’re feeding that mechanism because all of our pro is moving towards the top portion of our body. Right? So when we wanna take our natural breath, the breath we were design to breathe was to pull that prana all the way in to wake up all the organs, all the tissues and all of the intelligences, the three brains, right? So when the diaphragm moves down, the belly drops open, the waist comes out. And what it’s doing is it’s actually unblocking the bottom quarter of your lung. That’s sitting underneath that diaphragm, which means the lower portion of your lung is actually, what’s gonna take the air in first. Hmm. When you take a full breath this way, the lung is gonna fill from the bottom up. And when it’s full, it’s gonna feel like it lands right at the center of your heart. Reminding us with every inhalation that we are, hearts centered beings. Mm. Keeping us grounded in our life force in our most powerful part of who we are as a human race. It’s our ability of love and connection. It’s our heart center. And with every breath you take in, even look where your lungs are sitting, it’s all there at the heart chakra reminding us to come home, to come home, to come home. Every time we breathe
When to focus on your heart center
Kimberly: 00:25:51 In a, in a simplistic sense, Marin, can we say, you know, we’re pushing down, we’re going wide. And then when we speak, are we to focus on our actual heart center?
Maryn: 00:26:03 Yes. So, but let’s, let’s go back to pushing that diaphragm down. What happens when you do that? The belly comes out, the waist comes out and it’s activating muscles down there. So if you’re at home listening to this and you’re breathing, right. See if you could feel the expansiveness and this like new sense of the muscles that are at the bottom of your body, because these muscles are the ones that you’re supposed to be using to express your mm. Right. And when we speak, we wanna activate these lower body muscles. And we wanna focus that energy after we activate them to then E exit or emerge through the heart chakra.
Kimberly: 00:26:42 Mm.
Maryn: 00:26:44 Yes. So when the body is pressing down, when the, the diaphragm is pressing down and the body comes out, it’s actually pushing down all of your gastrointestinal organs, right. It’s pushing down your digestive quality, how you process your life and it’s detoxifying that entire system. I always say the human being was designed by birth to breathe in new life and squeeze out the old unusable toxic crap. Mm-hmm <affirmative> simultaneously on all levels on all levels. Yes.
Kimberly: 00:27:16 Wait, so let let go back to that for one second. Mar because earlier you were saying that people overuse their throats, their throat it’s content to get a little bit raw or overused. So we’re saying that the breath is, is coming down through, it’s just a tunnel. It’s like a passage way, but actually in the heart, the meaning of the upper chakras and the lower cha and coming into the center, it’s the, the, the voice, the expression is actually energetically meant to radiate through the center, not our throat. Is that, is that what you’re saying?
Maryn: 00:27:47 Exactly. So the exact words that you would speak of course have to come out of the mouth. And so yes, a portion of your sound is gonna travel up through the resonators and out the mouth, but we, we cannot, uh, overlook the fact that we’re also vibrating the rest of our embodiment. So their sound coming through all of our body, not just our mouths. Mm, the vibrational quality of our voice exit through the skin, through the muscles, through the sys, through the bones, through everything like our, our sound is reverberating outward from us and at a holistic level, not just from our else, right? So a portion of us comes this, the, the volume we can say a portion of that has to come out through the mouth and the words have to be structured inside the mouth. But the sound quality itself is resonating through the whole being and the heart chakra is the center and the largest resonator of voice.
Kimberly: 00:28:47 Interesting. You know, I feel like I’m trying, you know, I’m reflecting back on, um, just my own voice journey, I guess you could say. And I’ve been doing so much work over the past few years, meditation and introspection and reflection and, um, just different modalities. And then I’ve worked with you as well. And what it feels like to me. And of course, there’s, you know, there’s more work to do with everything. You know, we can always keep going and going, but it almost feels like for me when I, when I speak now and just when I’m here sitting here, I feel that, um, there’s more of a, a, like a dropping in, whereas before I was always in my head. And so I was always, I never felt really. And, you know, next, I’d love to run through the chakras from your perspective to Marin, but I just felt like I wasn’t really down there, my root, you know?
Kimberly: 00:29:37 Yeah. And so now it feels like when I’m, when I’m speaking or just like, I’m walking around, it’s almost like we, we do come literally from this more rooted place when we do this type of work and we’re, you know, breathing down deep and of course we’re meditating, we’re re we’re becoming more present. It’s like, it’s interesting because we, we, we talk about the true self here, which is the, you know, the big subject in my new book, which is really living life from this, this formless energy, this infinite part of us, you know, spirit individualize, the soul, whatever words we wanna use universe inside of us. So yes, we are working with that formless energy, but at the same time, we’re having this embodied experience. So we are in the body. So there’s this interesting play between being, you know, in spirit, but also being in the body at the same time, which I think is, you know, where your, your work is, is really powerful. And how do we, you know, how does that, how does that come together? How does that affect our voice? How does that affect our way of expressing ourselves?
How the voice affects our way of expressing ourselves
Maryn: 00:30:38 Yeah, this is a great point. And this work is so crucial right now in this particular time of history, we are going through a pandemic, we’re going through a plague, right? And so this is a time of major human expansion. And so, yeah, to speak to what you just said, uh, a, a lot of my history of studying yoga and, and studying some of these teachings and, and I see the way it kind of gets translated into our, and to our teachers out there, we feel that, um, enlightenment is about escape almost. Mm. Right? Because everything is pulling up away from the earth to get to this place inside of your third eye, crown, where you are, you’re exiting, like you’re above it, you’re beyond it, you’re out and theres something that, that we miss. I believe we miss. And I use a word that you’re great teacher and my great teacher at, uh, Yoon depar Hanzi uses as his fellowship.
Maryn: 00:31:33 There’s this place called self realization. Mm-hmm <affirmative>, and that’s a place that I believe that we’re in right now. So if that breath that moved down, you feel the body, when you feel the groundedness, you feel the embodiment. And what that does is it wakes up the intelligence of the consciousnesses that you are cosmic consciousness and earth consciousness moving together in co-creation the incredible, beautiful, precious gift of a human birth. We get really caught up in who we think we are and what we’re supposed to accomplish here, according to our societies and our structures and our shoulds and our, our wants and our desires and all these like head games that we get ourselves into here. But what we are are two incredible intelligences that function so beautifully together. And we get to come here and bear witness to it and be an app part of it.
Maryn: 00:32:25 Mm-hmm <affirmative> right. It’s such a beautiful process of being alive. Like I’m so grateful for this flesh every day, right? Oh yeah. When we’re breathing, uh, up and out and are moving everything towards the crown, there might be some steps that we’re, we’re, we’re not connecting. Right. And that is where I think the heart shocker comes in, right. To connect it all together. So this embodied feeling gives us a chance to be present in what is naturally arising in this moment within our consciousnesses, right. Which unified to become one. So I’m just gonna say consciousness, because we embody both of them as one, as a human, right. And we don’t wanna keep them separate because we’re not here to separate them. We’re here to connect them and to be the magic that they create together. Mm-hmm <affirmative>. So when we start to do this breathwork and the voice work has to do with it and the shocker work, and this embodiment, what happens is we start to open up the instincts, the deep primal aspects of this consciousness, the emotional aspects of the human consciousness, the power that comes for creation with this human consciousness, the love inside of our hearts that has the power to heal all things on this plane.
Maryn: 00:33:39 And when we reach the heart chakra, which is where I believe the human race is actually sitting right now between solar plexus and heart chakra, where we’re at a major point of development to step out of our ego identity and the, I mean, mind mentality into the we, how do I serve this planet from love mentality, right? When we get to that place, this is where I call self. This is what I call self realization. Self realization is understanding your ego and how it is, and integrating it, not trying to kill it, destroy it, run from it and go into a place of nothingness. You came to this earth, there is a reason you descended and incarnated, right? You chose a body to come be part of this magical dance, and your soul has a mission and a purpose and a power to play out here.
Maryn: 00:34:29 Right? So if we try to avoid and escape, we’re kind of missing for me, the, the glory of this journey, like why we’re here. And we are here to full embody, but what happens when we’re very young and we have certain traumas and certain things we’re dealing with is that the earth is a scary place. It hurts. It’s painful. It’s we don’t want it. It’s no, no, no. It’s like, I don’t wanna be a part of this. So we cope and we run away and then we try to escape and we try to, we try to use meditation as a place to disappear and dissolve something that we haven’t even fully embodied yet. Right. Go ahead. Did you wanna say something?
Kimberly: 00:35:10 So it’s, it’s interesting. Um, I was just rereading the, um, yoga NS commentary on the Bova Gaeta over the pre volume too, which I love very much and going, you know, I, I had some really a hard experiences over the, the break. It’s interesting. When you, when you read what he is really saying about self realiz, he talks about the highest form of human intuition being that we really through E experiential, um, practices through meditation. We come to know who we really are, which is this true self, which is spirit inside of us. And so what he says is we do need to go beyond the heart energy. And he talks a lot about the third eye, which, you know, can sound a little esoteric in the west, but really it’s this idea of seeing past the physicality, past the denseness, it’s, you know, the re sheets, the Sears, which could really perceive more.
Kimberly: 00:36:07 So, you know, different, different systems. Talk, talk about it a little bit differently. It’s, it’s, you know, it’s where we integrate this unconditional love of the heart, but we, we go past that even into this deeper, knowing this deeper integration, this, this allness, this oneness that, um, that comes because if we, if we, you know, if I think if we get to just like the love, we feel all the love and that’s, that’s great. I think that there is, you know, that’s a huge part of it, but there there’s there’s levels to it. There’s this seeing
Maryn: 00:36:41 Exactly what I’m saying, the self so self, when we get, we have to go through the embodiment to get out of it. That’s all that I’m saying. I a hundred percent agree with him. I mean, the crown is the ultimate goal. The human being can embody seven layers of energetics, right. So more, but the, the basic seven STR shock or structure is the seven different electromagnetic planes and consciousnesses that we can hold within our own body. And right now the human race needs to move into the love to get beyond that, to get to the beyond. Right. So, um, I kind of, I kind of think of the Buddha, what, and I, when I talk about this, so the Buddha, the moment of his enlightenment, he was in like Mara, right? Mara is that ego self that like personal hell that our mind creates <laugh> and tortures us with.
Maryn: 00:37:31 Right. And he was in the worst state of Mara at the moment. He was gonna cut that free and become enlightened throughout the Buddha’s, um, enlightenment process. He, every time he’d come to another door of an expansion, he would be attacked by his mind that would tell him, you can’t do this. Who are you to do this? Who, who, you’re nothing, you’re, you’re making the biggest mistake of your life. Like all of that worry, that doubt that sits in our solar plexus would come up. Right. And he would have to face that and then move beyond it. Right. And so what I’m saying is that we have to come beyond the solar plexus to cut that conversation between the, the mind and the E the ego and the self and all that is to actually get to beyond that. And when we cut that conversation, we move into the heart chakra. Well, once we’re in the heart chakra, the natural next step is to go to third eye and to, to actually get enlightened.
Kimberly: 00:38:27 That’s right. It’s, you know, it’s like what you were saying about, you know, embodying to let go, because we, we, we go beyond, you know, you there’s, it’s, it’s, you know, this nonlinear path of, of growth integration, and then it’s almost like this, you know, you get into the Chrysalis stage and then you kind of emerge. And what I found is in this work for me, um, the, our capacity to love gets deeper and deeper and bigger, bigger, but then also it, it’s coupled with more, more, um, wisdom and more understanding. So you sink deeper and deeper into peace into this bliss, you know, and, and the love and all of it. Um, so maybe Marin, my, you know, my third book was called the beauty detox power. And we, you know, there was a, there’s a section for each of the, of chakras. It’s when I, my work, you know, this is three, four books ago, four books ago.
Kimberly: 00:39:20 It started to go back into the spiritual roots because my first book was supposed to be a travel memoir, spiritual book. It was called catching the fire, and I wrote three or for the five chapters. And, um, you know, it was about the, a lot of the tea that are in the new book. This is 10 years ago. And then the editor, my, you know, my first editor, my first publishing house Harper Collins said, oh, on your blog, the food stuff is really picking up. So why don’t we do a food book first, we’ll do this book second. So anyways, it’s interesting this, you know, trajectory of how things unfold in timing. But anyways, I, I wrote about chop four books ago, and I think it’s really fascinating when we start to understand the different energies and where they tend to live in our body and how this plays out. And, you know, back to our theme here, how it affects our expression, our breath, our voice. So maybe we could just go through for a couple minutes, mayor each chakra, um, because I, you know, I’ve, I’ve gone through them with you. And I think this is really fascinating. So let’s start with root, right? So this is yes. Lower, lower safety, big one for that’s, right. For a lot of us.
We discuss and break down the chakras
Maryn: 00:40:27 Yeah. So the, the root checker is developing from the time you’re conceived until you’re one year old, and it is, um, it’s your survival, it’s your fight. Or, and it’s your basic feeling that your needs and in life can, can be met. And that is also financial. So this is the money sector for people who have scarcity issues in their life, but it also has to do with your nervous system and your vagus nerve and how, what, uh, whether you’re in sympathetic or parasympathetic nervous system and how you feel about your ability to be safe on this earth. Right? So when we get into your voice, this is the most primal aspect of your voice. This was that first cry and all the cries and the laughs and the giggles and the screams, um, of that first year of your life. And there’s no emotion in there, right?
Maryn: 00:41:21 That you’re crying because of needs. And hopefully your mother feels that there’s so much information. That’s really important here at the root chakra, because the mother governs the root chakra and your vagus nerve matches her vagus nerve, right? So when you’re in utero, you get the exact imprint of her vagus nerve. So you and your mother have a conversation that’s happening well beyond any kind of words, you know, everything your mother feels. And she knows everything. You’re feeling <affirmative> at a deep, deep level inside of the nervous system, because you basically are a mirror image of her nervous system, right? Mm-hmm <affirmative>, that can change throughout your life. Uh, but if you don’t know this, and if you, if you haven’t, if you don’t do any voice work, um, it really tends not to. It’s the one you become that like, you know, 44, 5 year old woman who hated her mother, but can’t is that acting just like her?
Maryn: 00:42:16 And you don’t know why, right. Because you’re, you’re really programmed in there. So it’s holding the connection to the mother, but deeper than that, the mother, which is the earth herself, she’s the mother of us all. So when we have any issues in the root chakra, we end up disconnected from the source of Kundalini life force energy from the source of the power of creating the physical world for ourselves and for others. But when we have our root shock, we’re really connected. We now have we feel confident in the body. We can be in the body mm-hmm <affirmative> mm-hmm <affirmative>. So there’s a lot of root chakra issues, uh, with the, with my clients, with my students that I work with and the people that I meet, um, root and second chakra. Yes. Let’s go to second chakra now. Yeah. The second chakra is where the father takes over.
Maryn: 00:43:09 Um, and it’s in charge of your sensory enjoyment. It’s where your senses wake up and where the, you can ask yourself whether I can enjoy my life through my senses. So all of your senses become very acute here, and this is from six months to three years old. So your senses turn on and you are living so connected to the world. Think about how many experiences you’ve have since that time, the external world, and you are having a direct conversation. And the, this is where the subconscious and conscious mind starts to get created. So the brain, the conscious mind, the, the, the, your thinker is a computer. That’s really just collecting all of this information of everything and you’ve experienced, and then forming using logic and using reasoning to ultimately figure out what the future will look like, or how to plan for the future, right?
Maryn: 00:44:05 And at this stage of your life, you don’t have any of that in yet. All you have is your direct connection with your senses. So you are like hugely sensitive to the world, and you are having a direct experience. And all of these first time experiences are creating, um, pretty much your it’s, your subconscious mind, which is really controlling everything, right? So I always say like, here at this time of your life, there is no, maybe there’s. Yes. And there’s no. And if you experience something that’s mildly UN pleasing to very painful, it goes in the no pile. And if you experience something that’s mildly pleasing to really wonderful. It goes in the yes pile. And so all these first time experiences are feeding, like the beginning of your personality. Hmm. And your thought processes are starting off of this, and it holds your, uh, your sexual energy, your creative energy, but it’s really about sensations. It’s about like, enjoying your physical pleasure.
Kimberly: 00:45:06 Interesting. Okay. So the second, so we go from security, we go that deep rooted place, and then we move into sensory creativity. And now take us love please. To third chakra money PRA
Maryn: 00:45:21 Money PRA is from, uh, that three year old age to about seven. And it’s your confidence and your personal power that’s
Kimberly: 00:45:31 From my son is right now, age five, he’s starting to exert his little powers tantrums. <laugh>
Maryn: 00:45:38 Totally right. And I had a, I had a student once years ago, who said, uh, my son’s starting to roar like a lion. And that’s exactly what this is like, rom is the sound of the solar plexes. And it’s, it’s your lion’s roar. It’s your confident about to express who you are in the world, but what it also is, is it’s the, the seed of your ego. Most people would put the ego somewhere up in the head, but the ego actually gets fully developed and seated here at this time of your life. You, your concept of who you think you are and what’s happening is your mind, which is, you know, just started there at the second. Chakra is now moving full force. You’re going to school, you’re becoming educated. You’re starting to do things on your own. You’re leaving the house on your own for the first time.
Maryn: 00:46:23 And you’re starting to see the world, how the world mirrors you back. And you’re starting to form a, an idea of who you think you are. And most of that idea is based on what the side world has given you instead of you yourself. And that I think is the bulk of the voice work, right? The solar plexus is the muscle group that diaphragm that’s stuck. That’s the part that prevents us from fully expressing through our heart shocker. Because once we open up the solar plexus, we get to the heart, but any insecurity, self doubt, I always say, you know, we, a society that functions off of guilt and shame, we, we really love to shame the human race. And I, um, I was on a podcast a couple weeks ago where I said, I’m so I’m really tired of hearing the narrative that the human being is the cancer of the planet. And that we’re destroying everything because really we are the Messiah <laugh> and we have all the power within us to actually wake this up. Right. So it’s the solar plexus and all of that narrative of like, I’m unworthy, I’m not good enough. Or that person made fun of me. I must be a loser. I must not be okay. I think, you know, that person doesn’t like me, whatever happened when we were younger, that ends up becoming a blockage right there covering our personal power.
Kimberly: 00:47:37 Well, what’s interesting about, you know, when we were talking about money PO there was a line that you and I talked about that I actually wrote about in the, the new book, um, in the confidence chapter, which I’m holding it right here, love it’s, it’s like the chapter five or something. <laugh> chapter eight. And so it is, you know, when Moses asked the almighty, you know, what is this? Who are you? It was, I am that I am. And so in the deep sense of, of self connection to who we are, this true self is not what we look like. It, it’s not what we do. It’s not what other people think of us. It’s not all these labels, but it’s, it’s just this pure, you know, the very center of the onion, peeling, everything away to, I am that I am, I’m just pure being this alive breathing creation of spirit. My personal power comes really from being connected to this deep, deep place and not, you know, identifying with all the labels that keep us small, which sounds like a big, you know, big thing. But through the, you know, the practices meditation, you know, your work, Marin is so much about chanting into each of these. Yes, these chakras, and really helping to, um, lock so much of this, you know, this falsehood that we’ve taken on is truth.
Maryn: 00:48:55 Absolutely. So the, to unwire the program or the thought processes of others that we have actually taken on, like when we are moving here at second and third chakras, the majority of the human race has not had their own original thought. We are repeating others, thoughts that were given to us. When you just say those words right there, I am that I am. How does that feel? It feels like unconditional love. That’s what it feels like to me. Like you said, that word I am, that I am. Yeah. And just the sound of that is like, oh yeah, I can feel that like, yeah, I am omnipotent and powerful and loving. And I’m huge. And I love myself in this world. And like, it just opened up my heart chakra when you said that,
Kimberly: 00:49:40 Oh my gosh, <laugh>, you know, you know what it feels like to me too. It, it feels like a, a, a kind of a declaration of freedom too. I’m here. I’m just here. You know, it’s it, I don’t have to be a certain way for you to love me. <laugh> I don’t have to be a certain way for me to love me. I just am. And so this word, enlightenment, you know, this increasing awareness, this freedom, it is so connected to our personal power. Isn’t it? Mar because then we could just go about, we live, we love fully. We’re not in this mind, chatter we’re instead of like thinking, we’re just really being ourselves and what an amazing gift to give each first of all, to give ourselves and then to give the world, because we’re showing up in this purity,
Maryn: 00:50:28 The gifts, and that’s exactly what happened. So speaking on the voice level, we are self conscious and so self critical and editing ourselves all the time out of fear of what others will think of us. Yeah. And that conversation comes from what we think of us. So when you can actually come to the am, that I am, you realize that your personal power does not lie in what the world does for you. It lies in your contribution to the world and you become, you, you immediately shift into service. Yes. So then when you look
Kimberly: 00:51:03 I’m good. So how can I help you? And everyone else, like beyond the
Maryn: 00:51:08 Exactly. And so that’s your Godhead, that’s the Messiah. That’s exactly what happened with Jesus. He, he had his vision and his opening and his understanding of I am that I am. And what did he do? He went to all the people, not just the lo the, the, the drinkers and the gamblers and the prostitutes. He also went to the Pharisees and all of the people with all the money and everything and said, guys, there’s another way. We’re one, it’s one. And we can do this all together. Right. And so what happens is your first question immediately is how can I serve? And your, your insecurities and your lack of confidence is now gone because you realize I have power within me to help and to be of service. And the, the brilliant part of our design is that service is your ultimate joy.
Kimberly: 00:51:51 Exactly. We’re meant to be expanded. We’re meant to go beyond the self. You know, the, just the way the universe is always expanding within us, this little drop of consciousness of the universe of God, we are meant to go beyond this, these limitations that we put on ourselves. <laugh>
Maryn: 00:52:07 Yes. And every moment of our birth, every birth is an opportunity to move beyond this story, right? That’s the whole idea of enlightenment of getting to the third eye and crown. Every, every birth that we take is a chance to move through the embodiment and all these pitfalls and all these trappings of the ego, which is a beautiful thing. It’s part of what it means to be a human, but to actually realize I am, I am. And so are all of you, every one of us is I am that. I am. Yes. And how do we do this together in love? Like, what do we want to see come of this planet? Cause guess what? We all have the power to make that happen together. So, so,
Kimberly: 00:52:45 So yeah, so let’s continue here. So let’s say you, you, you, you know, we, we, we work, we work on all the chakras, I think in, in different ways at different times, it’s not so linear as this, but let’s say we are going up. You know, we we’re in SAC, um, fruit SAC. Now we’re clearing, we’re starting to have deeper understanding of the Monte pour. And like you said earlier, that then fuels fourth chakra here, heart.
Maryn: 00:53:10 Exactly. Which you, which it won’t fuel. If there’s a major problem in the second sh in the third chakra. So when the third chakra gets very debilitated, during that time of development, it establishes a conversation with the third eye, with the six chakra three and six work together. Hmm. Two and five actually work together as well. But three, when you get a strong ego identity, it becomes heavy thought processes. Yeah. Heavy strategizing of yourself and manipulating the world around you to fit into your strategic personality. Right. Right. You try to control things and, and keep supporting this construct of the me. Yes, exactly. So when you, when you don’t have that break, that, uh, that insecurity, it opens up to the hard shocker, which is what we just said. Mm-hmm, <affirmative> your ultimate contribution, your ability to love the center of your voice, right. So you could see here where this gets in the way of the, if your solar plexus is blocked, you’re not accessing this resonator freely.
Maryn: 00:54:09 Hmm. So, okay. So the heart chakra is the center of your emotions. It’s love. Yes. And it’s developing from the time that you’re seven to nine years old. And the truth of the heart chakra is that love is the frequency that can cure every illness known to man or every illness on this planet. And it’s a literal frequency. It sounds very cliche when I say it, but when you have felt this vibration, you know, this is not cliche. This is, this is unobstructed vital Chi life force energy. So according to Chinese medicine, the Chi brain lives here. Right. And in the heart, this is yeah. It’s. Um, but between the solar plexus and the heart chakra is where your Chi brain is bringing all of the, the conversation of all of your body embodiment together. And it is literally your ability to, for like UN um, you know, you can live to 150, you can live to 200 years.
Maryn: 00:55:01 You can live. I’ve seen these interviews with these old Chinese men talking about how, if the Chi she brain is unobstructed, you have long life longevity, abundance, lasting health, and goodness, and great relationships. And like, and you, it, it, it it’s the idea is the unobstructed part of it. So where the hard chakra gets, uh, obstructed is in the emotional patterning. So heart shock or stores, emotions that you’re not processing. Mm. And so over on either side of your heart shock, or there are two emotion centers that are huge that are also the resonators of your voice. And we use our voice to actually move clear what might be sitting there. But when you think about depression and, and sadness, what does it feel like? It feels like a weight on your chest, right? This is real energy. That’s sitting at your heart shocker level blocking and obscuring the access to that loving, joyful self that wants to give to the world and receive from the world. We need both sides of the coin there at the heart chakra. It is not all only giving it is receiving. Yes. But when you are fully activated in your heart, chakra giving is receiving and it all becomes one thing. Right. So when you were talking about two parts, were you talking about the two chambers? Like the left and the right, or are you talking
Kimberly: 00:56:23 More like the front back? Are you talking about in energetic terms?
Maryn: 00:56:27 Oh, so right. Um, on either side of the center of the front of the heart chakra, there are two spots on your chest, like over where your upper lungs are like, uh, towards the center, kind of at the lung spot. Like, and they
Kimberly: 00:56:40 Physical places or energetic.
Maryn: 00:56:42 Yeah. No physical places. Okay. Okay. Yeah. That are holding energy that are storing patterns, energy, and that’s what becomes your tears when you cry out those waters, those electrical charges that you’re holding onto are actually exiting the body. And if you use your voice for ch and chanting, singing, yelling, I, I do a lot of primal vocal release. It’s super important to, primly just like use your vibration to move clear. What’s obstructing the body. You actually can. You can, um, purge these two energy senators and you can open up a clearing for your energy to flow freer.
Kimberly: 00:57:21 What happens Marin? When we, when we, or angry or someone is screaming or, you know, not that we wanna create any sort of shame, but just so we understand what happens in the chakras or someone is speaking in, you know, like, like, like, um, mean, or <laugh> sharp. Like what what’s that doing to and what, what chakra and what’s happening there.
Which chakra is affected by anger and what is actually happening
Maryn: 00:57:44 So what’s happening in that moment is that your mind has sent a synapse to your body. And it’s probably a repeated synapse. Something that, you know, a reaction that is, that is already very well deep in the grooves of your system that something has built up. Let’s say, uh, someone says the same thing to you all the time. I use this example, like your partner always criticizes you the same way and you don’t get angry. You hold it in, you hold it in, you hold it in. You don’t speak up and say, please, I, I, I know that you mean, well, I know that you love me. You cannot speak to me in these terms. You don’t use your power to say, no, I will not allow that. And this is what I will allow, like loving communication using this as an example, when you don’t, uh, step into your power and express yourself authentically, when these moments arise, you start to store the memory of every time it happens. And it’s like keeps adding injury to insult right. That expression. So your mind hears what that person is saying. And it’s not only reacting what just happened. It’s reacting to every other time it’s happened before. And you didn’t clear it. So your mind has a very fierce, uh, firing of a synapse, which then hits the store of all the times that person has said that. And immediately you have a very loud, violent, because your mind is tired of it. It’s too much at this point. Right. But
Kimberly: 00:59:11 When you are having the reaction though, are you, are you contributing to, um, more stuckness? Are you just keeping it energetically in that chakra?
Maryn: 00:59:21 Oh yeah. So any kind of a violent reaction is only be getting more violence. Yeah. It just feels that you can’t stop anything. It feels good to get it off of your chest, but now it’s between the two of you and it will have to be navigated. Right? So hopefully someone, I always say, I work a lot with couples who can’t communicate with each other or don’t know how to use their voice. And, uh, I always say play a little game. Whoever ends the fight first wins. So we can actually talk to each other from our heart space. If you were to say to your partner, you know, what really hurts my feelings when you say that, and I don’t really think I deserve this. Uh, so I understand I can feel with your frustration that you’re throwing at me and I’m going to not respond that way.
Maryn: 01:00:05 I’d really rather like, I understand you don’t mean this personally, we’re having an argument. Let’s talk about this, right? That would be very healthy. But instead we have stores and stores of all the times, and it doesn’t even necessarily have to be your partner. Your partner can be displaying something your father did to you when you were younger or your best friend in high school did to you or something. That’s sitting in the body for all these years. And then you keep inviting that energy in because you have to figure out why this pattern is happening. Mm-hmm <affirmative>, mm-hmm <affirmative>. So when you respond fire to fire, I always call this talking down. And there’s a difference between talking down and speaking up vocal transformation is a pathway to speaking up, which means the authentic truth of this moment and expressing how you truly feel instead of what you’re thinking.
Maryn: 01:00:57 Mm-hmm <affirmative> mm-hmm <affirmative> yeah. Cuz it’s often anger. Is the shell over the, the vulnerability or feeling vulnerable about being sad or scared or whatever it is. Isn’t that exactly. Yeah. It’s uh, it’s anger on top of sadness. Like I’ve been through a lot of angry moments myself. And when I finally break down past the anger, I weep for hours, you know, <laugh>, it’s a sadness. It’s, you’re either highly insulted and you’re you’re solar plexus, which is holding all of that insecurity is just, it doesn’t wanna release the emotion. So instead it just pushes it back. It’s just like, no, not me. You, you, not me, you. Right. Um, but instead feel, yeah, let yourself feel it instead of being vulnerable and saying, yes, I hear you. You’re saying that I’m a whatever you’re saying. And do I feel that to be true? Is that true for me?
Maryn: 01:01:47 Do I feel that to be true? You know, I always think of the four agreements when I think of the solar plexus in the heart, because that first agreement, which is don’t take anything personal. Yeah. This is the game of the solar plexus. Everything is personal in the solar plexus. And then once you get to the heart, cha nothing is personal. Love is not personal at all. Love is omnipresent and it’s in all things and you are it right? Yeah. So it’s a, it’s a, it’s a switch that has to happen where you realize this fight keeps coming up. Let’s look at the pattern and why it’s coming up, but it’s not about me or them. It’s about what we’re trying to figure out. As far as consciousness coming together, coming back to love, finding what is necessary to reignite the love right. Between us amazing
Kimberly: 01:02:32 So moving into the throat, which is really interesting because usually like I’ve heard that the throat is, you know, literally our expression and community, but here we’re saying it’s through all. So what, tell us about, you know, your expression in this, you know, your vocal transformation of how we, you know, just throat chakra in general, I guess.
Maryn: 01:03:11 Yeah. So the, the throat chakra speaks to exactly what we just spoke about. It is not your area of it’s. It is your area of expression, overall expression. It’s actually your area of control. Hmm. So the throat chakra is where you control, what you express into the world and expression is not just vocal. It’s everything you put out into the world. So it’s your follow through. Hmm. And your willpower stems from your solar plexus, your creative impulse is second chakra and moves into willpower. And then hopefully you’re functioning healthy. It’s moving up through your loving self and your heart chakra. And then it comes out and expresses itself into the world. But exactly what we were just talking about when someone talks down or speaks up, that’s how your throat chakra controls your expression. And it’s functioning off of the principle of faith versus fear.
Maryn: 01:04:05 So where we are afraid, we revert to the mind and the ego and where we are in faith. We will revert into our heart shocker and to our loving nature. Mm. And the throat chakra is developing from the time you’re 11 until you’re 13 years old. And it’s really the, the finalizing of your personality, like what, who you are and how you express yourself in the world. So where do I feel safe expressing my authenticity and where do I not? So this time of our life, you might lie or manipulate to get yourself what you, or keep yourself out of trouble, right? No, you don’t wanna get punished. So you start to lie or conceal. Um, and so whether you tell the real authentic truth about what you’re experiencing or whether at this point, your mind is in strategy and coping mechanism and is creating a world where it wants to feel safe and in control of everything,
Kimberly: 01:05:04 You know, what’s scary. Marin is I think about how many kids now between 11 and 13 are on social media. They are on their phones or they, and they have phones. I think a lot of kids now at age. So we think about this a, this, this part of, like you said, transformation, authenticity, and, oh my gosh, like one distortions that could come trying to fit in trying to be liked, man.
Maryn: 01:05:29 Yeah. I always say I would never wanna be a child at this time. Although they have some amazing opportunities, uh, with them and I, and I’m, I’m here with them to support them however they need, but you can’t get away from the bully. Right. You can’t get away from the constant need to be on that social media, that those friend groups that are meeting in chat rooms, and you’re not invited to that. And like, there’s just it’s you used to leave school and go home and be alone. And now it’s constant. Right. So they’re really at a time where they’re they’re they need help. I, I would love to do a program for people in their young teens to like help them. Yeah. Um, to really be able to focus on what self-love truly is. And there’s so much inundation from the outside world. Like there’s just so much, this is how you’re supposed to look how you’re supposed to be, what, how you’re gonna fit in how to do it. Right. I of trusting your own instincts and your voice, your voice is your own instinct, right? It’s like your, what naturally wants to arise through your voice to be able to trust that expression, to be able to trust yourself and to be able to be confident enough to really put yourself out in the world and see what’s possible. Right. So it
Kimberly: 01:06:39 It’s, you know, true self-love is, uh, in a way it’s, it’s a precursor to being able to have that confidence to express and to be authentic. So how would you, what would you say to someone Marin about, you know, like I said, what is real self-love and how can and working with the voice and the expression support that.
What is real self-love and how can working with the voice and the expression support that
Maryn: 01:07:04 So for me, real self love is honoring all the aspects of who you are. It’s knowing where you still have room to grow. It’s knowing where you are wonderful too. And being able to compliment yourself in all those areas. And it’s being able to see yourself as a work in progress in its perfection in the moment with plenty of room to go and giving yourself support. Like self-esteem, to me is really supporting your journey, knowing that there’s so much possible for you and just being cur more curious and loving of all the aspects of your life. Hmm. And with that, that comes with all the aspects of everyone else’s too. Once you find that self love, and you really are your own best friend, and you can really work on the ego part of you, that needs to be perfect. There needs to be the most beautiful or the best at this, or the one, the one. And instead you can just say, what am I capable of? And, and to just, just be a hundred percent who you are and to relax in that. Mm mm-hmm <affirmative> mm-hmm <affirmative> you, you actually will allow that for everyone else around you.
Kimberly: 01:08:13 Oh yes, it is. So it is so true,
Maryn: 01:08:15 You know, this whole projection out and how we are with ourselves is how we are with others. It is mm-hmm <affirmative> it is the truth. Okay. My love. So let’s move into, uh, third eye. Yes. So third eye is developing from the time you’re 13 until you’re, uh, or 12 to you’re, 14 years old. Uh, and I find this to be really interesting, cuz this is your right of passage moment. Your third eye opens, and you now have your own conversation with the spirit. So you have a whole thought process going on up until now and now you’re gonna be moving into the divine above the crown that’s coming in. Right. Which is always there. So the crown is next, but the crown is all always open. So your crown is always trying to feed you high levels of your own consciousness that are coming in.
Maryn: 01:09:02 But the only thing in the way of that is your thought process. Mm. I had a great teacher, Sylvia Naka, uh, say once during a class, uh, you know, the divine is always waiting to be a part of, of, to intervene and part of your life, but it’s not gonna compete with your thoughts, which is why meditation, right. It’s why mastering the faculty of quieting the mind for periods of time. So that this true essence of what you are, can actually embody. Hmm. Instead of, um, electrical, firings, and all sorts of Sy, like all this mud electricity in the way of its entrance. Right. Beautiful. So, um, so here is your, how your mind is it works like settles in, so what is your thought process? How do you function? Why, what are you spending most of your time thinking about what matters to you as a person?
Maryn: 01:09:55 Like where are your thoughts always running mm-hmm <affirmative> and they’re getting, they’re getting caught in there, but if you look at it historically and at different tribes and even the Jews, I’m a Jewish woman. So like the Jews at 13, we have our Barba mitzvah. And I remember saying, this is ridiculous that like you become a man or a woman at that age. You don’t, but energetically speaking, you do. If you go back in history, the walkabout of the aboriginals at 13, do you think a mother wants to send her son out for 30 days to walk in the Bush? No, but it’s his right of passage. It’s the first sweat lodge and TP ceremony for the boy in, in the, in the native American as well. It is time for the right acid into your own adult conversation with the divine itself.
Maryn: 01:10:43 Wow. And now in our modern times, we wanna keep our children young, as long as we possibly can and keep them innocent and baby them, which is a near and possibility with our technology. But we want to be parents and mothers and fathers for like, until they go to college. But really, if you look at us energetically, it’s super important that at this point 12 to 13 years old, we start to give our children more responsibility and start to inquire more about their own connection with higher power and with themselves and how their mind works to govern their own lives. Hmm.
Kimberly: 01:11:17 Beautiful. Yeah. And so now finally, we have crown chakra,
Maryn: 01:11:21 Crown chakra, which is always open, as I said, 14 plus once we hit the crown, we’re gonna start cycling back through the chakra system every seven years. Right? So crown for you’re back at the root 14, 15, and then you come back through again with this opening. So the key to the crown is really that your root is grounded. Once you are rooted in your bottom, your earth is speaking up into the body and your crown is open to receive and your you flow will move through these seven shockers down towards the earth and up towards the crown. And you’ll have, you’ll be able to keep a conversation of energy flowing, right? So where we’re stuck in any of these areas, we have conversation breakdowns, which ultimately will become disease, physical disease, mental disease, emotional disease, lots of different ailments, but the crown is, yeah, this is what I love about that teaching.
Maryn: 01:12:15 You’re always there. It’s like the baby soft spot. That’s in your head that the highest self, the, the spirit, the divinity that you are the overview effect, as I would say, um, is always right there. Kind of looking down with the most unconditional love <laugh> cuz you’re so beyond the story that we wanted to tell ourselves here in the mind, right. And it’s always waiting to interject and to be a part of it and to allow it in. And so here’s where we open up to the power of prayer and trust and surrender. So one of the big notes of the throat chakra, where we talked about fear is that surrender is the key that opens that throat. And when that throat chakra opens and surrender, it can pull all of that high crown energy into the body, which is why the voice, why the throat chakra needs to be opened. Why we need to have this open expression because the throat is the gateway to allow our best, highest selves enter the physical body need itself in the heart center and then express yourself in a way that will truly make a better world.
Kimberly: 01:13:23 Mm. And so then it is, um, yeah, like the interesting term where you see the gateway of the throat, because otherwise if it’s closed, if it’s blocked, then those messages become muddled or we, you know, we reinterpret or we just, you know, um, go with the safe way. The, you know, the, the, the path that externally motivated all, all of these things, it, it distorts that real pureness, our best stuff coming through.
Maryn: 01:13:52 Absolutely your mind will take it and do whatever it does with it know, instead of really letting it come in and trusting your consciousness.
Kimberly: 01:14:01 Mm. Amazing love. Well, I could talk to you forever about all of this. I know absolutely fascinating. We’ve talked about a lot of, um, information here, but in, in your work, like I mentioned, you have different programs and you, your work is, um, you know, part of it is, which I’ve done. Some of is, is chanting into each of the chakras to help unblock there’s different seed. Uh, Beja mantras, there’s different sounds and frequencies. So it’s really incredible and rich your, your program on love. And so again, I think like we’ll have to have you back on to go a bit, um, deeper into some of that, but first of all, thank you so much for sharing, um, your wisdom. This is incredible.
Maryn: 01:14:42 Thank you, Kimberly. I love this book by the way, I’m reading this new book and I love this book. Thank you so much for it. Um, and I think that this, this work right now is so IM important, like your, your, your, your teachings of self love, right? Which we talked about this to, to find your voice is the greatest act of self love. And if you can take a journey like this for yourself, and really learn how to use your voice properly, you will see the power that you have to really contribute yourself to this world and to live a fulfilling life. So I really do urge everyone to either one of my programs or any way that you can actually activate this voice. I’m on a mission to wake up humanity because when we wake up, it all wakes up. Right. Mm-hmm <affirmative>. And so that’s my, that’s my passion and my purpose. And I just wanna thank you so much for, for inviting me to come talk to you about this and to, to, to bringing me into your world, cuz you do such incredible work. So thank you so much.
Kimberly: 01:15:36 Oh my gosh. Thank you so much. My love, I really feel like, you know, the, your, your offerings have really expanded my understanding of voice and expression. It’s so beautiful. It’s very powerful. So can you share with us Marin where we can find out, out your work, anyone that’s interested in going deep, um, all the things that you have.
Maryn: 01:15:59 Yeah. So, uh, I just launched my first online course. It’s done in group situation. You have access to me as a teacher, so we’ve just launched it. And the next one will probably launch at the end of February. So you can go to www dash I’m dot vocal transformation.com and you can sign up for the next round. If you wanna start this work in an online, uh, version with a group of people, forming a community of people who are doing this work together. Uh, I also offer one on one, uh, programs. That’s a year long program. You can also go to that website and send an email to it and find me there. Um, and what else do I have to share? Oh, and I run retreats. They’re all on that on there too. That’s what I’m doing here in Costa Rica. I run retreats all over the world.
Maryn: 01:16:41 I hope one day can rule you and I can run a retreat together. Oh, amazing. These retreats are breakthrough retreats.
