Hi Beauties,
We are back today, and we are talking about How To Rev Up Your Metabolism. Now your metabolism, which is the rate at which you are burning calories to produce energy, is affected by a wide variety of factors.
This includes genetics, your muscle mass, the amount of fat in your body, your activity levels, whether you’re a male or a female, and many other factors.
We can’t, of course, affect certain things like our genetics, but there are lifestyle choices that we can choose to make part of our lifestyle that can have a very positive impact on your metabolism, which is something we all want.
We want to feel that energy, we don’t want to hold onto stagnation, excess weight and heaviness. It’s time we feel light, fit, and strong.
Tip #1: Watch Stress Levels
The first tip I have for us is to watch your stress levels. There’s so much research coming out about stress, everything from inflammation to impacting the rate at which we sleep.
Stress also effects our hormones including the production of cortisol, which is a stress hormone than leads to belly fat and fat in unwanted areas of our body.
There’s also research that shows that cortisol is a disrupter. It creates disordered eating and it can also adversely affect our metabolism.
Anything you can do to manage stress, whether that’s allowing a little bit of extra commute time so you don’t freak out on the way to work.
Of course, incorporating meditation and some healthy essential oils is beneficial. Getting into your clear cut morning ritual so you’re not stressing about what to eat as much.
So many things I could say about stress, but for now, I’ll say that stress management is a very important part of a very healthy metabolism.
Tip #2: Simplify Your Meals
The second tip is to simplify your meals. Our bodies are not garbage compactors, and a lot of us think that they are by the way we’ve eaten in the past. Maybe we didn’t really think about it, but the simpler our meals the easier they are to digest.
Our body acts on specific foods with very specific substrates and digestive enzymes. I always say, eat a lot of veggies, have fewer components of the concentrated foods instead of eating like 15 million different things.
Eat more of fewer things and your body will have an easier time digesting and this will really be wonderful for your metabolism as well preventing stagnation and bloating.
Tip #3: Cooking with Warming Spices
Number three is cooking with warming spices. Use them in your life. This is a great way to rev up your metabolism. This is something that Ayurvedic medicine has been teaching for millennia. This includes cayenne pepper, ginger, of course chilies if you’re into that, cumin, cinnamon is a wonderful warming spice as well.
A lot of us in the west think that it’s just for sweets but it’s actually really wonderful in savory dishes. I put it in a lot of stews, I put it in my Dal and kitcheree. Check on different recipes we have for using cinnamon in savory ways as well.
Tip #4: Better Sleep Routine
Sleep is a wonderful way to rev up your metabolism. When we sleep better we have more regulated hormones including Leptin that affects our appetite and our metabolism. Also, Ghrelin which triggers appetite and when we feel full.
It just goes round and around. When we don’t sleep well we tend to have sluggishness. Sometimes we have more food cravings or our metabolism is thrown off because our hormones are thrown off. Try do try to create a solid evening routine.
Sleep elixirs really work for me, I drink a lot of Tulsi tea these days and take showers to cleanse the day away. I do my whole Solluna Skincare routine with our non-toxic, high performance products. I read a book, I meditate.
It’s really important we have our whole SleepWell System, as well, if you’re looking for a very practical, digital course on how you can really sleep your best.
Tip #5: Vitamin B-12
Make sure you’re getting enough vitamin B-12. This is a very important water soluble vitamin that helps with our metabolism. In general we say 500 to 1000 MCG micrograms is about the amount that is needed.
You can get it from nutritional yeast. If you are long term vegan supplementation is recommended in the B complex, you can get a B complex as well. Just make sure you’re getting enough B-12.
Tip #6: Channel Your Inner Fire
And lastly, channel your inner pitta. Pitta is a fire element that’s inside of all of us. Some of us are dominate in this dosha. We say, in Ayurvedic medicine, we have more of that fire.
Some of us are more vata, more wind, which is my primary element. Some of us are a little bit more earthy, a little bit calculating, move slowly.
We want to channel that pitta which is naturally going to rev up. This is the time for manifestations, speaking out, speaking our truth. Maybe putting ourselves in a little bit of uncomfortable situations–making those phone calls that make us a little bit nervous, stepping out of our comfort zone.
Really following our clear vision and our purpose, whatever that means. Gathering together community, volunteering to be a committee later, or somehow supporting a cause that means something to you.
These lifestyle choices, which may feel a little bit more outward and fiery, can really help bring that element throughout our whole life because everything is so related, and that could also help to rev up your metabolism as well.

Hey Kimberly, I have just read this article. I’m a 53-year old woman living in Belgium. When I was about a year in my menopause, I gained 30 kg in about a year and a half. Before menopause my normal weight was 58 kg. I eat very clean and I exercise. I had my thyroid checked and my cortisol. Everything is ok. My sleep is ok too. Because of my weight gain I struggle with insuline resistance. For the moment I eat low carb, but I am not able to lose weight. The only time I managed to lose 6 kg, was after a 28 day waterfast. I tried a second time to waterfast, but I am not able to lose any weight anymore, even when Fasting. Could genetics play a part in this ? I’m open for suggestions.
Hi Anne-Marie…it could be many variables. This is when I would suggest reaching out to your health care practitioner, who will be able to test you and give you more specific details. In the meantime, continue to do what you’re doing – incorporating healthy foods and staying active. You will have a great head start and will make any transitioning easier once you’ve seen your practitioner. Lots of love to you! ;)
